TRANSMISSION CONTINUES TO SHUDDER AT 50 MPH. IT LOOKS LIKE IT SHUTTERS UNTIL YOU HIT THE GAS OR LET OFF. IF YOU ARE COASTING ON FLAT GROUND, STEADY AT THE SAME SPEED, IT WILL DO IT UNTIL YOU LET OFF THE GAS OR HIT THE GAS HARDER. *TR
THE VAN SEEMS TO STUTTER AT LOW SPEEDS USUALLY 30-35MPH. LATELY THE IT HAS ISSUE HAS WORSE AND IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
SOON AFTER PURCHASING OUR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EX I NOTICED A SHUDDER WHEN I WAS GOING SLOWLY IN TRAFFIC. IT HAD TROUBLE SHIFTING UP. USUALLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS I'M ONLY GOING BETWEEN 30-45. IT SEEMS FINE WHEN I QUICKLY ACCELERATE. NOW IT HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. I KNOW IT'S A TRANSMISSION ISSUE, BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS HERE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER WE BOUGHT IT FROM AND OF COURSE THEY COULDN'T FIND THE SHUDDER. IT WAS PROBABLY BECAUSE THEY ONLY DROVE IT FOR 2 MILES. I'M VERY FRUSTRATED WITH HONDA AND WON'T EVER PURCHASE ONE AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE EXCESSIVELY AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND ADVISED HER TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 91,155.

VIBRATION AND NOISE FROM ENGINE OR TANSMISSION WHENEVER CAR GOES INTO ECO MODE. DOES IT AT ALL SPEEDS. DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE CAR NEEDS NEW ENGINE MOUNTS. SEEMS LIKE EX-L AND TOURINGS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE!!!! FAULTY MOUNTS, BAD DESIGN! DEALER QOTED $2000 TO FIX. DONT HAVE MONEY TO COVER THE COST AS I JUST HAD A BABY. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY DECELERATED TO 20 MPH. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 65 MPH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A REASON FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER 84,000 MILES. TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS BETWEEN GEARS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WHEN ACCELERATING. REVERSE ALSO DOES NOT ENGAGE AND APPEARS TO EXHIBIT SLIPPAGE. *KB
DURING ACCELERATION OR DECELERATION, THE STEERING AND TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS BETWEEN 30 AND 45 MPH. WHEN THIS CONDITION HAPPENS, THE VEHICLE BECOMES DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND CAN EASILY BECOME UNSAFE. WHILE ACCELERATING, THE VEHICLE CAN SHUDDER AND EASILY SHIFT TO ONE SIDE. THIS CONDITION HAS OCCURRED OVER THE PAST YEAR. IT IS NOW HAPPENING REPEATEDLY AND WITH INCREASING SEVERITY. I HAVE REPLACED TIRES AND CHECKED ALIGNMENT. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED BRAKES AND TURNED ROTORS. THE DEALER INDICATED TODAY THAT THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION. *KB

2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EXL TRANSMISSION SHUDDER. EITHER A FAILING TORQUE CONVERTER OR TRANSMISSION. I AM WRITING IN CONCERN TO MY ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION. I HAVE HAD A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERING BETWEEN 20-40 MPH. AS IT SHUDDERS THERE IS ALSO A DROP IN RPM'S. I HAVE SPOKE WITH (2) OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME MODEL YEAR ODYSSEY AND THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I HAVE LOCATED 1000'S OF BLOGS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS TO ME IS RAISES A CONCERN. THIS IS NOT NORMALLY WEAR AND TEAR FOR A TRANSMISSION. THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT HONDA ISN'T ADDRESSING. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS IN THE PAST, ISSUED BY NHTSA, IN REGARDS TO HONDA TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THESE PROBLEMS DON'T EVER SEEMED TO BE FIXED. BASED UPON THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ABOUT, THE (2), OTHER THAN MINE, THAT I HAVE PERSONALLY HEARD ABOUT MAKES ME FEEL AS THERE SHOULD BE SOME TYPE OF INTERACTION WITH YOUR AGENCY. HONDA CONTINUES TO BLOW OFF THE ISSUE AND SAY IT ISN'T A PROBLEM. TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD LAST WAY LONGER THAN 60-80K MILES. I HAVE NEVER TOWED OR ABUSED MY TRANSMISSION IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM AND IT IS FAILING ME. I BELIEVE IT IS SOLELY A MANUFACTURER ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE MINUTES LATER AND NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED A SECOND TIME AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED INTERMITTENTLY ONCE THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME HOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A SECOND OPINION WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 198,000. TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO FAIL AFTER 100,000 MILES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY AT A NORMAL SPEED IN HOUSTON, WHEN IT SUDDENLY WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR, AND THE TACH REVVED UP TO THE RED LINE. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. I HAVE 143,00 MILES ON IT. THE PRICE THAT THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED WAS 4300.00 DOLLARS. I REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM AMERICAN HONDA, AND WAS DENIED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF MILES ON THE VAN. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL HONDA SPECIALIST AND GOT THE SAME TRANSMISSION AND WARRANTY FOR 1100.00 LESS. *TR
OUR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN HAS BEEN TAKEN FOR REPAIRS NUMEROUS TIMES TO ADDRESS FRONT END SHUDDER THAT INCREASES WITH SPEED, BECOMING NOTICEABLE AT ~25MPH AND MOST PRONOUNCED AT 60-65MPH. THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES LEFT-RIGHT AT A HIGH FREQUENCY AND INCREASING INTENSITY WHILE THIS SHUDDER IS HAPPENING. BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS IS MEASURABLE HAMPERED AND ONE CAN FEEL THE SHUDDER THROUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL AS THIS OCCURS. WE HAVE HAD THE TIRES REPLACED MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY THAN THEIR SCHEDULED LIFE WOULD SUGGEST NECESSARY, WE HAVE HAD THE ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING CHECKED, AND WE HAVE ASKED HONDA TO REPAIR THE VIBRATION PROBLEM, ALL WITHOUT SUCCESS. THERE ARE ONLINE FORUMS WHERE ODYSSEY OWNERS DISCUSS SIMILAR PROBLEMS (FOR EXAMPLE, SEE THE EDMUNDS SITE: TOWNHALL.EDMUNDS.COM/DIRECT/VIEW/.F1085E1) AND LACK OF RESOLUTION BY HONDA. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED A MINOR ACCIDENT WHICH INVOLVED HITTING A CAR IN FRONT OF US AT LOW SPEED AND I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM PLAYED A ROLE. *TR
TOOK 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN COMPLAINING OF STRONG ENGINE SHUDDER WHEN ACCELERATING AND BETWEEN GEAR SHIFTS. SHUDDER IS SO STRONG WHOLE CAR SHIMMIES INCLUDING STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN FOR THIS ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS (AT 60,000 AND 90,000) AND IT HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY DIAGNOSED. JUST 5 MONTHS AND A FEW THOUSAND MILES LATER I AM BEING TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. VERY INTERESTING THAT IT'S THE SAME ISSUE I HAVE BEEN IN FOR BEFORE WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A SHUTTERING NOISE AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN VIBRATING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN THE CONTACT DROVE BETWEEN 30-40 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 97,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I BOUGHT A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY BRAND NEW WITH WARRANTY AND AT 20,000 MILES STARTED COMPLAINING OF A WHINING OR HUMMING NOISE AFTER TRAVELING DISTANCES OVER 30 MINUTES LONG. THE WEATHER DID NOT SEEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I COMPLAINED 5 SEPARATE TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP, EACH TIME BEING TURNED AWAY BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T FIND AN ISSUE. AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED, THEY WERE ABLE TO TELL ME THAT MY POWER STEERING PUMP HAD FAILED AND AFTER MUCH TALK WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND HONDA, THEY REPLACED IT COVERING 75% OF THE COST. THAT WAS IN OCTOBER 2009. ON MARCH 15, THE NOISE RETURNED AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ASSUMING IT WAS MY POWER STEERING PUMP. IT WAS MY POWER STEERING RACK WHICH AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH SEVERAL OTHER MECHANICS SEEMS TO BE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS ALL ALONG. I NOW HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING RACK AT A COST OF $1500. I HAVE TRIED TO GET HELP FROM HONDA, BUT THEY CLAIM IT IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY SAME ISSUE ONLINE AND HONDA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR ALL MODELS 2005-2007 AND SOME 2008 MODELS FOR POWER STEERING PUMP FAILURE. THIS IS A LARGER ISSUE AND A RECALL OF THIS ENTIRE SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT OR MORE HONDA OWNERS ARE GOING TO RUN INTO THE ISSUE I HAVE. IF I DON'T REPLACE THE POWER STEERING RACK, FLUID COULD POUR OUT AT ANY TIME AND CAUSE ME TO LOSE STEERING AT ANY POINT. SO THAT IS WHY I AM HAVING IT FIXED IMMEDIATELY. 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN. WHILE CRUISING (NOT ACCELERATING, NOT CLIMBING) AT ABOUT 70 MPH ON I-5 SOUTH IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, THE DRIVER SAW THE TACHOMETER SUDDENLY SHOOT UP ABOVE THE RED LINE (>5000 RPM). THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV WITH ACCOMPANYING VERY LOUD ENGINE NOISE. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT EVEN AS THE DRIVER EASED OFF THE GAS PEDAL. THE DRIVER PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND BACK OF THE CAR WAS SOAKED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE CAR WAS SURROUNDED BY THE SMELL OF BURNING OIL. THE CAR WAS TOWED 129 MILES TO A SERVICE STATION. DIAGNOSIS: "BLOWN TRANSMISSION", APPARENTLY A RECURRENT PROBLEM WITH HONDA ODYSSEYS. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT LESS THAN 80,000 MILES. WHILE TRAVELING AT 60+ MPH TRANSMISSION SMOKES, FLUID SPEWS FROM TAILPIPE AND FRONT, GEARS RACE AND VEHICLE BECOMES UNABLE TO CONTROL IN TRAFFIC. VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPS, MUST BE ALLOWED TO COOL DOWN BEFORE IT CAN BE RESTARTED. GEARS SOMETIME LOCK CAUSING INABILITY TO STEER. OCCURS OCCASIONALLY AT 80,000-90,000, MORE FREQUENTLY AT 90,000 MILES. DEFECT IN TORQUE CONVERTER APPARENTLY CAUSES FLUID TO BOIL INSIDE TRANSMISSION, CAUSES DAMAGE TO GEARS, SMOKING, ETC.. ONLY FIX IS A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EX ON SLIGHT SLOPES AT APPROXIMATELY 25-35 MPH UNDER LIGHT ACCELERATION, MY VEHICLE BEGINS TO SHUDDER STRONGLY ENOUGH THAT I CAN FEEL IT THROUGH THE FOOT PEDAL AND STEERING WHEEL. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY IN MY IN-TOWN DRIVING FOLLOWING FREQUENT STOPS, AND CONTINUES FOR A FEW SECONDS UNTIL I INCREASE SPEED AND RPM. IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS, I HAVE EXPERIENCED A STRONG FORWARD JOLTING MOTION WHEN MY VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTS AS I AM SLOWING BEHIND OTHER CARS OR AS I AM SLOWING TO MAKE A TURN OF MY OWN. THE JOLT FORWARD HAS BEEN SO STRONG THAT IT FEELS LIKE I'M HITTING THE ACCELERATOR, AND I HAVE HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO KEEP FROM OVERSHOOTING MY TURN OR REAR ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
