The rear shocks have gone bad 2 times already, and now are bad a third time at 28,000 miles. The shocks begin to clunk and the rear end vibrates over bumps.

In August of 2023, Stivers Hyundai located in Columbia, SC replaced the rear shock absorbers on my 2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited due to a rattling and knocking noise in the rear of the vehicle. The noise never completely went away, but was somewhat better. In July of 2024 the noise was back to the same noise as we were hearing in 2023. We took the vehicle to the dealership in August of 2024 complaining of the same noise previously heard. The dealership stated that we needed new shock absorbers (same as which they replaced a year ago) and which only had approx. 20,000 on them. When we explained that they had just replaced them a year ago, they completely dismissed our concern and noted that they needed to be replaced and offered no explanation as to why they would wear out in a years time. At the point we visited the dealership in 2024, the vehicle was no longer under warranty and we were quoted over $3,000 to fix the issue. In looking through other online forums, this appears to be a common issue with this vehicle. My thought is that there is an underlying issues that is causing this to happen that may not be addressed through simply replacing the rear shock absorbers. Maybe there is an issue causing the shock absorbers to wear out so quickly and that issue has not been identified. Nonetheless, shock absorbers should not wear out in 20,000 miles under normal (mostly interstate) diving conditions.

My rear shocks and or insulator were replaced under a TSB 22-SS-001H at 50000 miles. At 79000 they are needing replaced again. I am told the TSB no longer applies since it is out of warranty. I see others having the same issue. Can Hyundai be held accountable for obviously replacing a defective part with another one?

Rear suspension with auto level function is not working properly. Rear is super stiff and bouncy ride over small imperfections on the road. Even with brand new tires it’s still an unpleasant ride. Rear passengers are not comfortable anymore.

The ride is extremely bumpy, especially for children in the back seats. Hyundai has replaced the shocks/struts twice with less than 20,000 miles on the car. They are apparently using the same part which is why they keep wearing out badly.

Self-leveling shocks are bad just over 70,000, when the vehicle is out of warranty. Contacted Hyundai with no assistance. Did my own research and found that it seems to be a known issue with Hyundai Palisades. [XXX] [XXX] Seems ridiculous that a part so expensive without the option for aftermarket parts would be going bad so easily. My safety has not been jeopardized YET; however, worn or broken shock absorbers can lead to reduced braking efficiency, which could be a serious safety risk in the event of an emergency braking situation. In addition, worn or broken shock absorbers can cause your vehicle to skid on wet roads Repairs are ongoing with an independent service provider. The rubber covering on the rear passenger side strut top insulator disintegrated twice. It was replaced in 2022 at 20,000 miles and now again in 2024 at 57,000. It was confirmed by the dealer and acknowledge that this is a known problem. The issue caused a loud knocking sound when I drove and vehicle instability. I was afraid to drive my vehicle until it was fixed. There were no messages, warnings or lamps that indicated what the issue was.

The rear suspension makes a clunking noise. This is a known issue for the palisade and because I’m at 80,000 miles on the vehicle they want me to pay $6,000 for the replacement! This is insane.

Suspension has made a thumping/creaking noise from both side of rear since new. Brought it to two dealers and they could not fix. The problem has been only getting worse over time. I worry the rear shocks are another component is going to fail and the ride quality / road holding ability has also been getting worse. I have entered details for when the problem first started (essentially when new) but it continues to this date.

Having noise from the rear suspension while hitting a bump or turning. dealer says its in the shock or the mounting assembly. I am concerned if its in the mounting of the shock, and the shocks are loose it could be a safety issue. Its been months now and it is getting worse. the dealer is not communicating with me on fixing the problem.it was fixed once on. 11/9/2022 invoice [XXX] and on 8/22/2024 invoice [XXX] it started again Larry miller Hyundai Peoria az. Self leveling shocks in the rear of the vehicle are failing (leaking, locking up) very early in their life span. Significant adverse effects to ride and handling.

The rear shocks have failed multiple times on my vehicle. The original shocks failed under 50k miles. I had them replaced on February 14 with OEM shocks at the dealership. The replacement rear driver side shock began leaking last week, approximately 6.5 months after install. It is currently available for inspection upon request. Without properly working shocks, the car is more difficult to control over rough roads, and creates a safety hazard for myself and others. The original shock issue that was corrected in February was reproduced by the dealer and an independent service center. The new problem is self diagnosed, but is very evident when looking at part and surrounding area (fluid leaking from the shock and dirtying the surrounding parts). The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or other parties. There were no symptoms of the problem prior to failure.

The rear self leveling shocks pop and rattle and ultimately fail. What used to be a comfortable ride is now a stiff bouncy response in the rear whenever traversing any but a smooth road. The bounce is so bad it affects the driver and at times the ability to maintain a straight course.

2020 Palisade with Automatic leveling shocks has failed with 37000 miles. As per Hyundai forum it appears that this is a regular occurrence and should be recalled due to premature seals leaking!

Rear shock absorbers are not functioning properly after 70,000 miles. I have had no success after no less than 10 attempts to purchase replacements from dealers and online Hyundai parts suppliers. Hyundai is aware of the defective shock absorber issue but has not corrected the replacement issue.

The self-leveling rear suspension on this vehicle has failed twice at approximately every 20,000 miles. I do not tow anything or haul heavy loads. It is a family transport vehicle that is primarily operated on smooth, flat paved roads in a suburban environment. The service writer at Don Moore Hyundai in Owensboro, KY advised that this is a very common issue due to poor design. The components require complete replacement. My personal research via vehicle interest/information forums seems to support this claim as many others have been experiencing the same issue. There is no warning that failure is imminent. The suspension makes a knocking sound, primarily at low speed. Ride and handling are negatively impacted, and the tires are subject to damage and premature wear. The vehicle is available for inspection and it is serviced at the aforementioned dealership.

With about 47,000 miles of use the suspension became rough, mostly in the rear when driving. It is like you are driving with little to no shocks. The smallest bumps in the road you feel it and bounce in the seat. It used to be a very smooth driving car and very enjoyable to drive. This suspension problem is making it less than enjoyable and more difficult to drive. I spend more time looking at the road and avoiding things that could a rough drive. I have had vehicles in the past that had auto leveling systems and air shocks which has caused similar driving, so it may be a design problem. With this low mileage it should not be a ware issue.

at 30K miles, the car started to make loud noises when driving over speed bumps, the smallest of road variations. Dealer detected the issue until Hyundai executives were contacted. Then, the dealer changed their story and confirmed the shocks on the car need to be redesigned in reinstalled and it's becoimg a national/ international problem. They are talking about the rear shocks only and not including the front . The issue with the shocks are wide spread and being discussed on the multiple forums. Very concerned about potential and major damage to the tires/car that can cause major accidents. .

About a year after purchase (new) a loud popping noise emanating from the rear suspension was reported to my Hyundai dealer. At first I was told it was a normal characteristic of the car. After escalating the complaint I was told it had a bad rear shock, which was replaced under warranty but the noise continued. They told me that a Hyundai tech specialist would contact me for resolution. That was 5 months ago. The noise persists.
