YESTERDAY I TOOK MY CAR WHICH HAD 30,852 MILES ON IT TO THE DEALER FOR THE 30,000 MILE MAINTENANCE. I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR AN ECM & CLUSTER SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT HAD TO BE PERFORMED. I WAS TOLD NOTHING ABOUT THE PURPOSE OF THE UPDATE. THE CAR WAS SERVICED, I LEFT THE DEALER AND DROVE APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES TO THE GROCERY STORE. WHEN LEAVING THE GROCERY STORE I HAD TO TURN LEFT ACROSS A LANE OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC APPROXIMATELY 200 YARDS AWAY FROM A MAJOR INTERSECTION. AS I PROCEEDED MY CAR STALLED AND I WAS ALMOST HIT. THE ENGINE DID NOT DIE COMPLETELY AND I WAS ABLE TO LIMP BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY GAVE ME A LOANER AND SAID THEY WOULD WORK ON THE PROBLEM. WHEN I WENT HOME I DID A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF INTERNET RESEARCH AND DETERMINED THAT HYUNDAI KNOWS THESE ENGINES ARE DEFECTIVE AND THERE IS ANOTHER CLASS ACTION SUIT PENDING ON THE 2015 AND 2016 MODELS AFTER THEY HAD ALREADY SETTLED A SUIT ON THE 2011-2014 MODELS. THIS MORNING THE DEALER STATED THEY HAVE TO REPLACE MY KNOCK SENSOR BECAUSE ITS BAD. WHEN I STATED I KNEW ABOUT THE ENGINE PROBLEMS THE SERVICE TECH ADMITTED MY KNOWLEDGE TO BE CORRECT BUT SAID HE HAS TO GO THROUGH THE PROCESS WHICH FOR NOW IS TO REPLACE THE SENSOR AND HARNESS WHICH WILL NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF A DEFECTIVE ENGINE THAT CAN STALL IN TRAFFIC FROM PREVIOUSLY KNOWN PROBLEMS. THE SOFTWARE UPDATE IS WHAT CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO GO INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT TO WHICH I WAS NOT INFORMED AND I WAS ALMOST KILLED YESTERDAY. HYUNDAI KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM ON THE 2015-2016 AND IS FURTHER EXACERBATING THE ISSUE BY INSTALLING SOFTWARE ON A SERVICE RECALL THAT IS DESIGNED TO ASCERTAIN THEIR EXPOSURE TO DEFECTIVE VEHICLES. I WAS LUCKY I WASN'T KILLED YESTERDAY AND NOW I HAVE TO GO THROUGH A PROCESS THAT FURTHER RISKS MY LIFE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SLIPPED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. MCGRATH CITY HYUNDAI (6720 WEST GRAND AVENUE, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS 60707, (773) 889-3030) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND PERFORMED A DIGITAL LINE TRANSMISSION ASSESSMENT OF THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH CASE NUMBER: 11611171. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15,000.
WHEN TRYING TO PARK MY CAR IT WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. THEN I TRIED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND BEGAN TO HAVE A LOSS OF POWER IN FORWARD GEARS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED IN FOR SERVICE AT THAT POINT
I PURCHASED MY 2015 SONATA 12/04/2017. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, MY GEAR STARTED TO SLIP. AT FIRST HAD ISSUES BREAKING, IT SEEMED A BIT DELAYED. I WAS ADVISED BY SOME FAMILY MEMBERS THAT MAYBE THE ENGINE SIMPLY NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED. (EARLY JANUARY) ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER GOING UP AND DOWN HILLS STARTED BECOMING AN ISSUE. DUE TO MY BUSY WORK SCHEDULE, I HAD TO PUT OFF GOING TO THE SHOP. MY CAR IS NECESSARY FOR MY EMPLOYMENT. THE WEEK BEFORE I WAS DUE TO SERVICE (EARLY FEBRUARY) MY CAR STOPPED MOVING FORWARD OR BACKWARD AFTER STOPPING AT A LOCAL STOP SIGN, I TOWED THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE DECIDED THAT THE CAUSE OF THESE ISSUES IS A CRACK IN MY TRANSMISSION. THEY HAVE DECIDED NOT TO USE MY WARRANTY TO COVER THE DAMAGES BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY A DRIVER. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE PART THAT SEEMS TO BE AFFECTED, IS THE ONLY PART OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE THAT ISNT PROTECTED BY THE PLASTIC COVER PIECE. THEY SAID THIS DAMAGE COULD HAVE HAPPENED UNKNOWINGLY AND EASILY. THIS HAS MADE MY CAR EXTREMELY VULNERABLE TO OUTSIDE DAMAGE AND HAS ALSO BROUGHT THE VALUE OF THE CAR DOWN EXTREMELY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT GEARS WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,626.
TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS, DISENGAGES IN MOTION MAKING THE CAR HESITATE, STALL AND BUCK THIS USUALLY OCCURS WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STAND STILL...OR WHEN BACKING OR MOVING FORWARD SLOWLY AS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC OR WHEN IN A DRIVE THROUGH..
2015 HYUNDAI SONATA ENGINE FAILURE, EXACTLY SIMILAR TO SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED IN RECALL ARTICLES FOR OLDER MODELS UP TO 2014. HYUNDAI WARRANTY COMPANY DECLINED THE REPAIR CLAIMING IT WAS AN OWNERS MAINTENANCE ISSUE. I DON'T HAVE HARD RECEIPTS FOR ALL OF THE OIL CHANGES I'VE COMPLETED ON THE CAR. THE CAR GAVE NO WARNING OF PENDING FAILURE (NO TEMPERATURE WARNING OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT). THE CAR HAD ONLY 33,000 MILES ON IT. I HAS BEEN NEARLY A YEAR SINCE THE FAILURE. I CAN'T FIND A REPLACEMENT ENGINE AT A REASONABLE PRICE BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE FAILURES FOR OTHER PEOPLE'S CARS. I'LL BE FORCED TO SEEK LEGAL ACTION (WHICH I CAN'T AFFORD) IF HYUNDAI DOESN'T HONOR THEIR WARRANTY AGREEMENT. I EVEN BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE, I WAS DRIVING TO A RELATIVES HOME. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY FOR ABOUT 7 MINUTES, AND THEN ONTO A SIDE ROAD BEFORE THE FAILURE. AFTER HAVING THE CAR TOWED TO A HYUNDAI DEALER, THEY OPENED THE ENGINE, TOOK PICTURES AND SENT THEM TO HYUNDAI WARRANTY COMPANY.
I READ YOUR COMPLAINTS AND ALSO HAVE HAD TO HAVE MY ECM OR VCM REPLACED 3 TIMES. WHILE ACCELERATING MY CAR LOSES POWER. IM NOT ABLE TO PASS CARS OR GET OUT OF THE WAY QUICKLY IF NEEDED. ALSO NOT GETTING THE GAS MILEAGE I USE TO GET BEFORE IT BROKE. PLUS I HAVE THE SPORT AND AM SUPPOSE TO BE ABLE TO SHIFT IN TO SPORT OR ECO THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE WHEN I PRESS THE BUTTON. THIS IS HAPPENING ON FREEWAY AT STOP SIGNS. ETC..
THIS IS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE.CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AT 15000 MILES AND NOW AT 31000 MILES. AS A RESULT OF THIS, CAR DOESN'T ACCELERATE AS INTENDED. THE CAR ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN.
DURING LABOR DAY WEEKEND, I WAS ALERTED ON DISPLAY THAT THE "TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE IS HIGH". I STOPPED FOR 40 MINUTES IN A TURNOUT AREA (THE MANUAL STATES THAT YOU NEED TO WAIT 20 MINUTES IN THIS CASE). I CONTINUED THE TRIP, BUT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING GEAR. I PUSHED THE ACCELEROMETER AND RPMS WERE AT 5000 AND GEAR WAS NOT SHIFTED (THE SPEED WAS AROUND 10-20 M/H). AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS TO INCREASE RPMS THE GEAR SHIFTED. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. I PARKED THE CAR FOR 5-6 HOURS. ON MY WAY BACK THE ISSUE APPEARED AFTER 20-30 MINUTES OF DRIVING. IN MY GARAGE, I NOTICED THAT I'M NOT ABLE TO DRIVE IN THE REVERSE DIRECTION. THE REVERSE GEAR WAS NOT SHIFTING. I FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL POSITION. I WAS NOT ABLE TO PARK THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO PUSH THE CAR INTO THE PARKING SPOT. THE NEXT DAY THE LIGHT "CHECK ENGINE" TURNED OFF AND THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTING OK. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO A HYUNDAI DEALER. THE SERVICE MAN WAS UNABLE TO VERIFY THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE. THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE WAS P191464. THE SERVICE MAN CONTACTED HYUNDAI FSE. FSE ADVISED REPLACING THE SHIFT MOTOR ACTUATOR. THE SHIFT MOTOR ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED. I PICKED THE CAR UP FROM THE SERVICE TODAY ON SEPTEMBER 25TH. I DROVE FROM SERVICE TO HOME WITHOUT ANY ISSUE ( APPROXIMATELY 6 MILES).
WHEN IN DRIVE, AT LOW SPEEDS (BETWEEN 5MPH AND 10MPH) THE VEHICLE BECOMES JERKY WHEN DECELERATING, VEHICLE SHUDDERS AS IF TROUBLING TO CHANGE GEARS.
I WENT TO ACCELERATE, BY DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR, AND THE ENGINE REVVED HIGH, BUT, THE CAR DID NOT ACCELERATE AND THERE DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE POWER AT THE WHEELS. IT ACTED AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. I LET OFF OF THE PEDAL AND IT DOWNSHIFTED AND POWER TO THE WHEELS WAS RESTORED. I REPEATED THIS PROCESS 3 TIMES AFTER AND I COULD REPLICATE IT EVERY TIME. DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND LEFT IT FOR SERVICE. THEY DROVE IT THE NEXT DAY AND COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE SINCE THAT DAY EITHER. *TR
