The car died suddenly while driving. The battery is only a few months old. Prior to dying a few warning lamps suddenly came on but there was no prior warning. The engine did not overheat, there was no smoke, or check engine light until the car suddenly died. I have been advised that I need a new engine. I have been researching and it appears many others have similar issues with their Infiniti engines. Its [XXX] Please look into this. It’s odd to me that so many folks engines have died at what is actually low mileage. It’s also pretty frustrating and depressing, the repairs can go up to the cost of a new vehicle, when this appears to be a design flaw. I’m starting to meet way to many folks whose Infiniti or Nissan suddenly needs a new trans or engine as soon as the warranty ends. On [XXX] took the car into the Infiniti dealership for the routine oil change with potential issue with timing chain noise on cold startup. The dealership explained that the warranty will not cover drivetrain. After the oil change and driving the car back home, the “check engine” light came on. I contacted infiniti regarding the drivetrain problems that consumers are seeing with this engine and CVT. The chain noise I hear and the video I shared during our appointment. Many are reporting the timing chain noise, sludge and CVT problems, starting at 85k miles. I wasn’t happy with Infiniti response on life of a drivetrain. Why would anyone pay $60k on a car if you its design to run only 100k miles, I would have purchased a $20k car instead. In fact, I have a Acura RDX with 200k miles with no drivetrain issues. " Email send to infiniti consumer affairs. Hello Dennis, Per our conversation regarding the powertrain warranty and my concern regarding industrial standard of a premium luxury vehicle design and life. I don’t agree with Infiniti position that at 135K miles is a full life of an engine and the problems with powertrain ( P0017 and 17F1CVT) is a common issue. No other vehicle will have engine failure and transmission failure at 135K miles. I have other vehicle that drive beyond 250K miles ( (Nissan Maxima and Acura RDX at 200k miles), that had routine maintenance and repair, but never engine or transmission problem. I perform regular maintenance on all my cars since age 16. It’s a shame that a high end vehicle customer has to face these major repair. I believe the 2017 infinti Qx60 with CVT is a faulty design. It is a design related issue, which Infiniti should recall and correct. Many of the Infiniti consumer forums that I have read on this subject, suggest a similar performance and potential disaster at 90-120K miles. Vehicle began ticking in early 2023. Then received check engine light and trouble codes P0014 and P0017. Took to Infiniti dealership. Dealership claimed "sludge - you did not change oil regularly, " which I did - either at Valvoline, Wal-Mart, or by myself. Multiple online forums about Infiniti QX60 indicate all the dealership mechanics are saying the SAME thing to customers who are having this issue. Dealership claimed vehicle would need NEW engine priced at over $17,000!! They are doing this nationwide and globally. Infiniti KNOWS there is an engine defect leading to sludge and failed engine. My engine did fail in April 2024, but thankfully in my home driveway and not at high speeds - this would have been deadly had it happened on a major highway!

We bought the car used at about 24,000 miles. No engine lights were on. After about a month of owning it smoke would come from the exhaust when started. Took it in to be look at and was told it was a fuel injector and it was replaced. No more issues for about 6 months when it suddenly lost power on the interstate at dawn barley made it to the side of the road without getting ran over. Had to have it towed to a shop where I was told it was a bad coil and they replaced it. Went to pick the car up and less than a mile down the road it lost power again. Took it down for Infiniti to look at it. They said it had previously had engine sludge and that the warranty was voided because of it. After online searches, this seems to be a regular occurrence for this year and model. They recommend a new Engine for $14,000. Now stuck with a vehicle that won’t run with a monthly payment I’m making on it.

While driving the car the engine suddenly stopped completely and we rolled the car to the side of the road. Had this happened on the highway a bit earlier it could have been a major accident as it was snowing heavily and there were snow plows and semis at high speeds. For the next 15 min the car would start and engine would stop on trying to accelerate. After raising the engine in reverse the car stayed on and we were able to come home. (I found across similar experiences from other Infiniti owners online.) Note : at a little over 70K mile the car had an issue where the acceleration suddenly dropped while driving. Dealer told us the engine was shot and we had to replace the engine. The new current engine also had some instances of erratic acceleration but dealer said no issue was found on diagnostics.

We bought the car used at 63,000 miles (approx.). At 65,000 (approx.) the engine will not crank. No engine lights were on. Infiniti will not acknowledge warranty due to engine sludge even though it has been maintained. After online searches, this seems to be a regular occurrence for this model and year.
