The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that upon having the vehicle inspected, the contact was informed by the technician that there was a crack in the oil engine housing and needed to be replaced. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and the contact was informed that both were aware of the failure, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 140,000. The VIN was not available.
My 2016 jeep Cherokee Limited which has the 2.4 L Tiger Shark engine is failing miserably. There is a extremely obvious ring around the entirety of the engine block. The manifold gasket has failed. The head gasket has never been removed by myself or by a jeep dealership who had my authority to do so. The indicator lights on my vehicle still have not illuminated other than alerting in me I had a faulty water pump which had to be replaced at 75k miles. The OEM thermostat is plastic. Not metal as it should be considering the elevated temp produced by 2.4 L Tiger Shark engine. That engine has destroyed the gasket. The damage started at the right hand sideāopposite of oil openingā about the middle of the gasket head. My vehicle was serviced by jeep multiple times at Napletonās JDR in West Palm Beach and the Jeep dealership in Greenwood Indiana. No one brought to my attention that I should have them investigate that. Instead alerted me to my windshield wipers needing to be replaced, Mind you a had done that the month prior from the same dealership. I question now why the engine was so very deeply cleaned when I purchased it and they even cleaned it twice in the days between me seeing and picking up the vehicle. They are aware of this. They were doing the oil changes. I asked how the oil was they always just said a bit low and never mentioned it unless asked. My next statement will be the now knocking pinging pistons. Mind you this Tiger Shark engine lifters/pistions are put in motion by OIL PRESSURE. Strangely the same problem Tiger Shark 2.4L is known for. No wonder so many people complain of there cars becoming immobilized when oil is beyond low. This is a very expensive fix. They knew it. Jeep would bankrupt if they had to either fix every single 2,4 L Tiger Shark engine and likely the multi air flow ones also. When Iām truth they should be totally replaced a blow head gasket and full engine tear down to replace lifters, head gasket+seal piston rings, spark plugsā¦

I was driving on the interstate, I just got past 55 miles per hour and my āservice transmission soonā notification came on. I was able to get off the interstate. After that, the vehicle completely stalled out. I put it in park and then back in drive and I was able to get home. If the vehicle would have stalled on the interstate it would have been horrible.

EIGHT TIMES NOW MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE WILL JUST QUIT. DEALERSHIP KEEPS MAKING ME CHECK MY OIL MYSELF. I AM 3000 MILES BEFORE A SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE AND THE VEHICLE HAS JUST STOPPED RUNNING WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH AGAIN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS . I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 55 ON ALMOST ALL ROADS. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A SEMI WAITING FOR A TOW. I GOT HOME AND AGAIN MY OIL IS LOW. MY CAR IS NOT LEAKING OIL. AGAIN I WILL HAVE TO TOW TO DEALER FOR THEM TO PUT OIL IN AND DO NOTHING TO FIX THIS OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS IN FULL MOTION. CAR SHUT OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE PULLING INTO PARKING LOT AND MAKING RIGHT TURN.
ENGINE SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING! APPARENTLY WHEN OIL IS LOW, ENGINE IS BUILT TO SHUT OFF AS A SAFETY FEATURE! NO OIL LIGHT INDICATOR COMES ON. THIS HAPPENS IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING VEHICLE WITH NO WARNING. CHECKED THE FORUMS ONLINE AND MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF SAME ISSUE. THESE VEHICLES (MINE INCLUDED) ARE BURNING OIL LIKE CRAZY! ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE VEHICLE HAD 60K MILES ON IT. WILL BURN THROUGH 5 QUARTS OF OIL IN 3K MILES OR LESS AND THEN VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF BECAUSE OF NO OIL!
VEHICLE ENGAGES EMERGENCY BREAK AND SERVICE TRANSMISSION WHILE IN MOTION'REDUCING THE SPEED TO 0. IT FORCES A RESTART AND ONCE THE RESTART IS DONE VEHICLE WILL MAKE ABRUPT SOUNDS WHILE SHIFTING GEARS. STEERING WILL BECOME STIFF AND VEHICLE WILL DO THIS ON REGULAR STREET ROAD OR HIGHWAY MAKING IT DANGEROUS. ONCE VEHICLE IS RESTARTED A FEW TIMES SENSORS CLEAR OUT. IT'S BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
VEHICLE STALL WHILE PARKED OR DURING MID TURN. VEHICLE WOULD ALSO HAVE SOME SORT OF OVERHEATING WHICH CAUSES ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ONE AND VEHICLE STARTS TO LOSE POWER CAUSING LIGHTS TO HAVE A SHORT FLICKER. ALL ISSUE HAPPEN DURING MOTION AND WHILE PARKED.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF OIL BURNING UP AND SCOLDING THE CYLINDER WALLS. OIL CHANGE AND GUARANTEED 3000 MILES. LESS THAN 1000 MILES LATER ALL OIL GONE AND CYLINDER WALLS SCORCHED. NO LEAKS AT ALL THE CAUSE THE MISSING OIL. EVERY 1000 MILES DEALER HAVING TO TOP OFF OIL UNTIL NEXT OIL CHANGE.
MOTOR BLEW UP AT 72000 MILES, SMOKE FILLED INTERIOR OF VEHICLE MAKING NAVIGATION IMPOSSIBLE AND REAR TIRE WAS PUNCTURED BY MOTOR PARTS CAUSING VEHICLE TO LEAVE ROADWAY, INFORMED FIAT/CHRYSLER OF THE ISSUE OF MOTOR FAILING TO CYCLE OIL CAUSING MAJOR FAILURE OF COMPONENTS, THEY ARE AWARE OF ENGINE ISSUES YET REFUSE RESPONSIBILITY. MOTOR REPLACED AT COST OF 6,300. NO WARRANTY ON VEHICLE.
WHEN TURNING, LEFT OR RIGHT MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE STALLED. IT EMITTED A DING SOUND AND FLASHED THE MESSAGE 'SHIFT GEAR TO PARK FIRST'. THE BATTERY LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE SHUT ITSELF OFF. I LOST POWER STEERING AND ACCELERATION. IT HAS HAPPENED 7 TIMES SINCE DECEMBER 2019, SOMETIMES MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. I SUSPECT THE OIL LEVEL BEING LOW IS THE CAUSE. BUT I HAVE NO INDICATION THAT THE OIL LEVEL GETS LOW.
THE JEEP HAS 36.4K MILES. WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR IS OVERHEATING AND SHOOTS ALL THE WAY HOT INTO THE RED AND THEN COOLS DOWN, THEN GOES UP AGAIN. IT HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN 15 MIN. WE FILLED IT WITH ANTIFREEZE. THERE IS NO LEAK. THE DEALER COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM BUT MY MECHANIC SAYS IT'S AN ENGINE DEFECT THAT CHRYSLER NEEDS TO FIX. IT ALSO HAS A CYLINDER MISFIRE THAT I HAVE HAD TO HAVE FIXED BY CHRYSLER TWICE IN SEPTEMBER AND DECEMBER BECAUSE IT CHUGS WHEN I START THE CAR AND AT STOP LIGHTS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. THEY SAY IT'S BAD SPARK PLUGS. I ONLY DRIVE ABOUT 14 MILES A DAY.
WITHOUT WARNING MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE WILL STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE CHECKED THE OIL AFTER THIS OCCURRED AND THERE WAS VERY LITTLE OIL LEFT. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON AND THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35-45 MPH AND WHILE MAKING LEFT TURNS. THE OIL IS CONSISTENTLY CHANGED AT 5000 MILES AND THIS OCCURS AFTER ABOUT 2000 MILES
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET THEN WENT TO TAKE A LEFT AND MY CAR SHUT OFF. I GOT IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TRIED TO START IT,WOULD NOT START. I THEN WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND TRIED AGAIN AND IT STARTED LUCKILY I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND CALLED TOW TRUCK AND THEY BROUGHT IT TO DEALERSHIP FOUND OUT IS BURNING OIL ONLY HAD 35;698 MILES AND WHEN THE CAR GETS DOWN TWO QUARTS OF OIL THESE CARS WILL SHUT DOWN WITH NO NOTICE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. NO DASH LIGHT COMES ON.
I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW IN 2016. AT 33,000 MILES THE ENGINE FAILED RESULTING IN THE CAR SHAKING WHEN ACCELERATING IN MOTION AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I BROUGHT IT IN AND WAS TOLD THE SPARK PLUGS FAILED AND THEY WERE REPLACED. AT 58,000 MILES THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE SPARK PLUGS AND THESE WERE REPLACED AGAIN. AT 74,100 IT HAPPENED A THIRD TIME. I BROUGHT IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP. AT THIS TIME, THE CAR WAS ALMOST 10,000 OUT OF WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS OIL LEAKING OUT OF MY ENGINE ONTO MY SPARK PLUGS CAUSING THE SPARK PLUGS TO MUD UP AND FAIL AND THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. AFTER SOME ARGUING BACK AND FORTH, FCA, USA AGREED TO SUPPLY A NEW ENGINE IF I PAID FOR THE LABOR, WHICH I DID.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO QUIRK CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (830 PLAIN ST, MARSHFIELD, MA 02050) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT CYLINDER NUMBER 3 FAILED AND THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT LOW COMPRESSION ON CYLINDER NUMBER 3 SHOWED INTERNAL FAILURE WITH DTC NUMBER: P0303 (CYLINDER #3 MISFIRE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000.

DEALERSHIP EXPLANATION IS THAT THE OIL IS LOW AND CAR IS DESIGNED TO SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING IF THE OIL IS LOW. I JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND NO OIL LIGHT EVER CAME ON. MANY PEOPLE REPORTING THE SAME AND THAT THIS ENGINE BURNS A WHOLE QUART OF OIL PER 750 MILES!!!

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS LOW AND THAT IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT AN OIL CHANGE BE PERFORMED. THE OIL CHANGE WAS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,527.
VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. HAPPENS MOSTLY IN THE MORNING AND AFTER MAKING A TURN. THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF AT RANDOM TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND EVENING. COULD BE A CRANKING ISSUE AS IT HAPPENS MOSTLY WITHIN A HALF HOUR OF STARTING. EVERY INCIDENT WHERE THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING HAS BEEN ON A STREET AND WHILE ACCELERATING IN MOTION. BEFORE SHUTTING OFF, THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER, WILL SHUT OFF.
