2018 Jeep Compass Engine

Same incident happened two days in a row, was only driving my car for a minute when the car just shut off while driving. Luckily I was still in my neighborhood and able to pull over, except today it happened as I entered the main road. Car just shut off while driving. Both days “low oil pressure” warning came on for a second and then went away. No prior oil or engine light or anything that would indicate an oil issue. Dealership found no leaks/cracks but said I have a serious oil consumption issue. Suggested I monitor and come back at 1000 miles. This is a huge safety concern and recall should be mandated for this known issue!! Car has only 53,000 miles and don’t even know if I can keep this car. My son was in the car both times, I’m incredibly concerned for our safety.

There seems to be an oil issue. I can’t find where it’s leaking but it is dropping off the bottom of the oil pump housing.

The was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a filter canister needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and advised the contact the whenever the check engine warning light was illuminated, the FWD feature would deactivate as a standard procedure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. The VIN was not available.

2 000 miles after each oil change, a quart of oil must be added

Did an oil change on 2018 jeep compass, within 500 miles I had to replace I’ve a quart of oil. When turning before, they car stalled and parking break engaged in the middle of the road. Had to put the car in neutral and start it. Once started the low oil light turned on and had lose of power. Have dealt with adding oil multiple times shortly after oil changes.

Vehicles stalls, engine shuts off while driving in the middle of the road. Very scary and disconcerting. Has happened once every day in the last 3 days. Just as it stalls, a low oil pressure warning flashes and disappears almost immediately. Vehicle hasn’t been seen by any one yet.

The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 52,000.

My car has been shutting off, at low speeds and high speeds the auto on/off will go on even after I turn it off

I was riding down the road, and my “service transmission” code came on, it started stalling in the middle of the road and shutting off with my kids in the vehicle. It was sent to a transmission shop, they said there was nothing wrong with the transmission ** I eventually checked my oil and realized it was extremely low so I put oil in it, the next day the service transmission light went off and the car ran great. This morning 5/11/12 the same exact thing has started happening again without a “low oil” warning from my car, I had an oil change not even a month ago and I don’t have a leak. My motor is burning oil at a quart per 500 miles with no explanation and each time it gets low my check engine light comes on, my service transmission light comes on, and it starts shutting off in traffic. This is life threatening to my children!!! We’ve been on the interstate when my car has just completely shut off with no warning. I have videos of today’s incident in my phone that I can not upload to this page. This is my second complaint I’ve filed, and I never heard back on the first one.

Jeep stalls while driving. Brake pedal becomes stiff and car will not start. Happens in the middle of the highway sometimes. It also will do this when I come to a complete stop. I have caused traffic interference and almost caused an accident. Sometimes I am able to get it started again after 10-15 minutes, sometimes I need to call a tow truck. The dealership said that it was the batteries in my key fab so they replaced them and it continued to happen. When researching online, I see that a lot of people have this issue and Chrysler has not responded to anyone.

Engine is consuming oil at an alarming rate. Not time for an oil change and have already had to add oil twice. Low oil pressure light comes on. No known leaks, engine is clean, no oil under hood. Based on other complaints this needs to be investigated!

The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed but no failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired and the contact's wife continued to use the vehicle. The failure recurred while the contact's wife was driving approximately 30 MPH. The vehicle stalled and the contact's wife was rear-ended. There was minimal damage to the rear bumper. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was returned to the same dealer and an oil consumption test was performed and it was determined that the oil consumption was normal. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was still consuming oil. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, and the dealer performed an oil change; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 61,938.

I took the Jeep in for radiator warranty work because it was leaking really really bad, and causing the heat to blow out ice cold. The dealership I got the Jeep from replaced the radiator and the very next day the jeep was still blowing out cold air instead of heat, and this time the jeep was sputtering and shaking and it cut off on me and my daughter at a stop light. I had to wait 15 minutes in traffic for it to start back up. I immediately called the dealership and had the Jeep there the following morning only for them to tell me they tested the vehicle and didn’t get anything to happen. I’m sick and tired of that dealership lying, and this jeep is not safe. And now the vehicle showed a error message on the screen saying coolant temperature to high, shutting vehicle down. It shut off in the middle of traffic AGAIN and I was almost rear ended!!! I don’t know what else to do.

Oil was changed last year and within 48 hours all leaked out, no issue found with oil filter such as torn gasket, double gasket, twisted gasket, etc. Refilled and installed new filter and randomly there would be oil spots. Next 2 oil changes we ran into the same issue with slow leaks, random leaks, etc. with no reason why. This last time, the technician stated that it has been seen frequently on Jeep Compass vehicles in their shop. In researching we found there is a known issue where the oil cooler sheet metal is too thin and it easily warps which prevents a solid seal on the oil filter causing leaks. When I called our local dealership the service manager agreed and said they have the new replacement part in stock and are frequently changing them due to this issue. I believe this should be a recall as there is a safety risk if it randomly decides to leak out all the oil while driving down the road, or randomly leak any amount of oil.

Vehicle seems to be consuming oil at a rapid pace. The vehicle does not leak oilt. I had to add over two quarts of oil on 8/16. This has happened between the last time I got the oil changed and the next scheduled oil change. The vehicle just suddenly stalled in traffic while driving with not warning. This has happened multiple times since we have owned it. No low oil notification alert. It is going in for service this evening. The dealer says there is not a recall on this VIN yet I am reading about a recall for this same oil consumption issue that we are having.

This Compass has been to North Point Jeep in Winston Salem, NC, 3 times for engine problems. The car overheats and then turns completely off after going 60 mph. We have complained but the dealership denies that there is an issue and these cars are "good". The car is currently at the dealership in repair and has been for the last month. Please make them accountable as we have spent a lot of money and time on this car that only has 40,000 miles. Please advise.

I was driving my Compass in traffic when it died and wouldnt start for about 60 secs and then it started right up no issues. The next day they very same thing happened- No lights or anything the vehicle died in the middle of traffic. I could have been injured or someone else could have been injured due to the sudden stops. I did take the vehicle to the dealership and I have been informed that the engine is defective and unsafe to drive as this will continue. I have opted to have a new engine installed in the vehicle. FCA did not express any concern for the safety of the consumers of these vehicles.

My car burns a quart of oil every 500 miles, it doesn’t warn me when it’s low on oil. Only when it’s bone dry, and when its low on oil it throws random engine codes that make the car start stalling. I’ve been driving down the interstate in the fast lane and my car just shut completely off with no check engine light on, no low oil warning, no warning at all. My breaks don’t work when my car shuts off, so on the interstate doing 70 isn’t an option for me anymore. I fear that my children will be in my car, and I’ll get plowed from behind because my car randomly shuts off!! This car shouldn’t be allowed to be sold.

Excessive oil consumption lead to multiple incidents of stalling while driving. Vehicle had trouble restarting in middle of the road. Almost got hit several times by other motorists. Checked oil level and there was approximately 1 liter of oil left, added 4 liters and problem went away. Only 2k miles since previous change when checking oil.

2/12/2022 while exiting Ohio Turnpike STRT 280 exit, while at toll booth driver’s window down, vehicle in drive foot on brake, paying toll, no engine warning lights, vehicle dies! Pleanty of fuel, pleanty of battery power vehicle would not start, it now seamed that every trouble light was flashing! Two tows and $900.00 later vehicle is as my dealers! If it died a mile earlier, while driving 70 mph, I would not be completing this form! Window down, in 20 degree temperature weather, my wife and I are SR Citizens!

Engine sputtering, stalling, then shutting down during intersection turns while trying to move from a stationary position, etc. This started happening only recently during colder temperatures here in Michigan, December 2021, and has only happened at the second intersection on a declined roadway, and only if the vehicle engine has not been "warmed up". This issues has now occurred 4 times at the same declining intersection. My daughter drives this vehicle and transports herself and my 3 grandchildren!

On 12/21/21 at 6:30AM my vechicle stalled out making a right hand turn off on Trap Shooters Road onto Bay Road Magnolia DE. On 12/22/21 at 3:30PM my vechicle stalled out making a right hand turn off of Walker Road on to Salsbury Road in Dover DE. I took the car to jiffy lube on the way home from work and the car was over two quarts low on oil with 2K more before oil change is due. This was the fourth time the car ran out of oil inbetween oil changes. It uses over one quart per 1K miles
