My Jeep's steering is excessively loose. There is a good amount of dead space in the steering wheel that the vehicle does not respond. The vehicle wonders left to right constantly and have to continue to correct for it's action. It becomes more of a safety hazard when there is a slight wind or passing or being passed by a larger vehicle like a truck for instance. The vehicle also shifts let and right depending on road conditions, meaning cracks in the pavement or pot holes of any size. I feel very unsecure or unsafe particularly at higher speeds. Please help and thank you in advance.

When driving a low speed, if the vehicle hits a bump, it will start bouncing and the steering wheel shakes too much until I stop and then everything comes back to normal. That situation is very frequently and very dangerous, because it happened to me many times while driving on a highway with a heavy traffic behind me, due to the fact that I have to slow dawn almost to stop to be able to control my vehicle. The dealer said that my car doesn't have extended warranty due to a type of tile (total loss) and the repair cost will be 100% out of my packet. I'm a retired person and do not have that type of money to pay for the repair.

This vehicle is a 2018 model with 27k miles, non of it off road. Upon driving a freeway a few days ago, the vehicle went into a violent vibration/shacking motion,AKA "Death Wobble" that required immediate and dangerous driver action to keep from having a high speed (within legal limits) accident. In addition, the steering system sticking (stops and won't move) and wanders both left and right. The vehicle is dangerous to the occupants as well as other car/drivers in close proximity to this vehicle.

The vehicle experiences a sudden and dramatic steering wheel shacking with intense vibration and loss of steering control. Seems to mostly happen at speeds above 40 miles per hour when making a turn or after hitting a road imperfection. The dealership has informed that his is related to the “Customer Satisfaction Notification V41 Steering Damper” [XXX] ) and that it should be brought in for service. The issue is that I have attempted to schedule said service over the last few months, however the dealers tell me they are out of stock for the parts needed and can’t use aftermarket part to repair. (The date of incident is a placeholder, this is an ongoing issue) Given that this has been identified as a safety issue, that can cause loss of vehicle control endangering the safety of its occupants and others on the road, NHTSA should pressure Stellantis/FCA (Vehicle Manufacturer) to find a quicker and permanent solution to this problem. Perhaps to include reimbursement for parts and labor outside their dealerships. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

= Customer states that when hitting a bump they have the typical jeep death wobble Conditions?= Found the vehicle to have play in all steering joints and the right front axle joint t9 have play. The vehicle has 31,000 miles on it and has never been in an accident. it started the "death wobble" Oct 2024. I traveled to Michigan, not realizing it was this bad, and it became worse over the course of our trip in November 2024. I was traveling at 70-75 mph on why and felt like it was going to fall apart. It took me slowing it down to stop the wobble. I took to a mechanic in Ionia, MI which I had a extended warranty and paid it. I was told it was fixed. They replaced Steering Tie Rod . . . Remove and Replace components as required to access and install materials and/or perform needed service. Retest and verify repair as required. Perform final road test where applicable. 68258761AE - SOCKET, Tie Rod 68258762AE - SOCKET, Tie Rod 68522992AA- SOCKET, Drag link inner 68260466AB - ADJUSTER ASSY, Steering Link 68258760AE - SOCKET, Drag link outer Front Axle. Outer Joint on "fixed" Friday, November 29, 2024. I was trying to leave to return to South Carolina on [XXX], and I went onto the interstate. I was not maybe 1/4 mile, and the "death wobble" started again. I had to get off at the next exit and go back to my Nieces house. I have to take it back to the mechanic shop on Monday, December 2, 2024. I am stuck here in Michigan, and I have a son whom I had to fly back to South Carolina to go to school. Who gets to pay for my expenses and my issues? who do I contact for all of this now that this issue is chronic.? The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle drove onto a bridge and suddenly began to wobble and vibrate. After reducing speed the driver was able the regain control of the vehicle. The failure continued to occur anytime the vehicle drove over a bump in the road while traveling at highway speeds. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the steering dampener needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 30,844.

Vehicle started rattling uncontrollably on Interstate 95 north, Just north of Richmond Hill, Georgia. We had to pull over and we inspected the jeep for damage. No noticeable damage and we turned around and went home and switch cars. We read that this could be the aluminum steering box or the Jeep rattle. We feel these are known defects that Jeep should be responsible.

Steering wheel shakes horribly. I feel every bump in the streets. Sometimes it feels as if I am about to lose control of my truck due to the lack of control. I have replaced the suspension, I have replaced the lower control arm, the ball joints twice and the same thing keeps happening.

I purchased my 2018 Jeep Wrangler 4 door Saharah Unlimited summer of 2022. The vehicle had less than 10k miles on it when I purchased the vehicle. Vehicle runs really well and alignment seems to be perfect. But occasionally at freeway speeds, usually anytime above 40mph. If I hit a bum (even road reflectors), either on a straight road or in a turn. I'll get a really violent shaking. I can get the shaking to stop by slowing down and applying gentle braking with reducing speed. Checked all the suspension connections and seemed tight. But again at speeds usually above 40mph, if I hit a bump or in a tight turn the violent shaking will occur. I've put less than 5k on the vehicle since purchase and the problem still exists. The vehicle is stock, stock tires, and never been offroad. I have changed out the steering dampener and track bar (heard most common problem). But still have this death wobble. Were nervous to take the vehicle on any long road trips with this issue. I saw online possible issues with possible weak welds for the steering mounts (track bar). We really love our Jeep, but not trust taking any long trips out side of where we live.

Steering stabilizer defective, causes severe wobble when you his any type of bump (like a bridge seam) when traveling over 30mph. Wobble makes the car uncontrollable and only goes away if you slow down to under 30mph. This makes the vehicle unsafe to drive on anything except city streets. The wobble shook the vehicle enough to cause secondary problems with the alternator and suspension/bearings.

The contact leased a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving approximately 60-70 MPH, the vehicle experienced death wobble. While riding over a bump in the roadway, the vehicle vibrated and shook abnormally. The contact was able to pull over. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to another dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

This vehicle is not safe due to the "death wobble". My 2018 Jeep Wrangler with only 36,000 miles has become unsafe to drive. Anytime it's driven over 30 mph there is an almost uncontrollable, violent shaking that occurs. What is being done about this? Is it going to take serious injury or death to happen for this to be recalled?

My vehicle is suffering form the defect described in this recall notice - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10169208-9999.pdf However, my vin doesn't show as being recalled in the NHTSA lookup tool. This week the same experience was observed while driving over 50mph and hitting normal bumps in the road. A wild vibration/oscillation takes over the vehicle and presents a safety concern for myself, passengers, and motorists around me.

While driving the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL, the vehicle began to shake violently along with the steering wheel. I had to pull over and slow to a stop to make it stop. I was running at a speed of about 70mph.

Oct 2022 Injury

The Jeep Wrangler JL Sport S (2018), has been having steering issues (death wobble) while driving at highway speeds whenever it encounters a bump or potholes at speeds greater than 60mph. The only remedy is to break and slow down to 40mph, this poses a safety hazard on interstates and highways as the vehicles behind have limited time to react and operating this vehicle while it is vibrating is extremely hard and dangerous in traffic. Myself and my wife have been victims of several road rash incidents as the vehicle's behind don't know what is going on when we slow down to stop vibrating, they have honked us and have even followed my wife for 5 miles harassing her on the interstate. We have an infant at home and are concerned for his safety as he travels with us in the Jeep. The car dealer continues to recommend replacing the "steering dampener" as a remedy but having replaced it twice has not fixed the issue. We need FCA to fix this as soon as possible as operating this vehicle in this condition is not acceptable.

I have experienced out of nowhere violent front end shake on 4 different occasions since purchasing a used 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sahara three (3) months ago. It cannot be reproduced as I cannot determine what exactly causes it to happen but on at least two occasions I was traveling along highway bridges. There are no warning lights or messages prior to the violent shake.I have had a tire store employee look at the vehicle and have been told the steering damper should be replaced however after researching my vin noticed that this has been completed at least once already according to the MOPAR site. It is very dangerous in my opinion as you will have to keep your wits about you to keep from losing control of the vehicle. Most recent occurence 2:00 pm Interstate 20. January 9, 2022

Purchased slightly used with only 34,387 miles. When driving at a higher rate is speed (62 or more) if the vehicle hits a bump (like when crossing the threshold of a bridge or hitting a bump in the road while in a turn) the passenger side Suspension shakes uncontrollably. As per news articles, Fiat Chrysler Automotive is aware and recommends a new steering bump. This seems to be a temporary solution, part easily and quickly wears out and must be replaced. Mechanic state that is not a proper solution. To pay this type of money for a vehicle and then repair bills only to have to repeat. Major concern is when driving on a highway or freeway you can’t always safely slow down in traffic, especially with semi trucks.

Apr 2022

Severe "Death Wobble" occurred on the highway at 70 mph after running over a bump in the road (bridge seam), let off the accelerator and the wobble increased. I experience "Death Wobble" routinely with this vehicle but, never this bad. Stock, no lift or modifications, 45K miles, properly inflated newer tires and steering damper replaced. Vehicle steering feels consistently unstable and cannot drive more than 65 mph.
