PASSENGER AIR BAG: LIGHT STAYS ON WHEN PERSON IN THE SEAT. NISSAN VOLUNTARY RECALL:PB090/P8242-DEALER WILL CHECK EACH VEHICLE FALLING BETWEEN 07-08 ALTIMA; FAULT IN SEAT CUSHION, DEALER INSTRUCTED TO REPLACE EACH VEHICLE FALLING WITHIN THAT RANGE. NISSAN REFUSES TO REPLACE OR CHECK PROBLEM.
THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO CLASSIFY THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER AND, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. THE SOFTWARE IS INCORRECTLY CLASSIFYING THE PASSENGER SEAT AS EMPTY WHEN IT IS OCCUPIED BY AN ADULT. IT HAPPENS WHEN IN MOTION AND STATIONARY. IT HAPPENS ON A STREET AND ALSO ON THE HIGHWAY. IT IS INTERMITTENT WHEN IT HAPPENS AND IT CANNOT BE DUPLICATED UPON REQUEST BUT IT DOES HAPPEN CONSISTENTLY. I HAVE SUBMITTED OTHER REQUESTS IN THE PAST BUT WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE OTHER RECALLS AT THAT TIME. (JULY 2011). I ALSO OWN A 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA AND JUST RECEIVED A NHTSA RECALL 16V-244 RECALL NOTICE FOR THE SAME THING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH, A SECOND VEHICLE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH CRASHED INTO THE REAR DRIVER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,300.
HAVE A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE STAYS ON WHETHER THERE IS AN OCCUPANT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OR NOT. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE PASSENGER AIR BAG NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY IN A CRASH. PROBLEM IS DUE TO FAULTY SENSOR SYSTEM. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM FOR NISSAN THAT HAS RESULTED IN PREVIOUS RECALLS AND SEVERAL CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS. NISSAN NOW HAS A RECALL OF 3.53 MILLION VEHICLES MODEL YEARS 2013-2017 REGARDING THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. NHTSA PLEASE INVESTIGATE THAT THIS RECALL SHOULD EXPAND FURTHER TO VEHICLES PRIOR TO 2013. IN 2008 THIS PROBLEM WAS DETECTED AND RECALLED. THE US NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION UPGRADED AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT ISSUE AFTER REVIEWING COMPLAINTS WHETHER PRIOR NISSAN RECALLS ADEQUATLEY ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THIS VERY WEBSITE REGARDING THIS SAME AIR BAG ISSUES/SENSOR SYSTEM PROBLEM WITH EARLIER MODEL YEAR NISSAN VEHICLES. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW NISSAN CAN ONLY RECALL 2013-2017 MODEL YEARS WHEN EARLIER MODELS VEHICLES ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUES. NISSAN IS TURNING THEIR BACKS ON SAFETY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HIM TO GO TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED PER A RECALL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THEIR AIR BAG RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING AN AIR BAG REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE ROLLED OVER MULTIPLE TIMES AND CRASHED INTO A SIGN. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT LOST CONSCIOUSNESS AND SUSTAINED FACE, HEAD, NECK, SHOULDER, AND KNEE INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 191,000.

I HAVE TAKEN MY ALTIMA TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP ON A FEW OCCASIONS AND EVERYTIME I GO THEY SAY MY CAR IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. ATM I HAVE NO AIRBAGS AND I DO A LOT OF DRIVING WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS.
THE SYSTEM IMPROPERLY CLASSIFIES AN ADULT FRONT SEAT PASSENGER AS A CHILD OR AS AN EMPTY SEAT, ILLUMINATING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS OFF ON THE DASH. THE DEALERSHIP HAS STATED THAT WHEN THIS IS ILLUMINATED THE AIR BAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN A CRASH. THEY HAVE FAILED TO DIAGNOSE THIS CONCERN STATING THAT THERE WOULD NEED TO BE AN ERROR SHOWING UP ON THE DRIVER DASH IN ORDER FOR TESTING TO BE DONE. I HAVE NOTICED THAT NISSAN HAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM WITH VEHICLES IN THE MODEL YEARS OF 2013-2017. I BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM EXTENDS WELL BEYOND THE YEARS STATED IN THE RECALL AND SHOULD BE EXAMINED FURTHER. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS CONCERN WITHOUT SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION FROM A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT 10 MPH, THE GLARE FROM THE SUN OBSTRUCTED THE CONTACT'S VISION. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CINDER BLOCK. AS THE CONTACT WAS EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND CAUSED HEAD AND CHEST INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. WHEN ADULT IS RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WARNING LIGHT ON DASH SAYS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG IS OFF. THEN THE LIGHT GOES OFF, AFTER A WHILE IT WILL COME BACK ON AND GO OFF AGAIN. IT DOES NOT MATTER THE LENGTH OF THE TRIP IT HAPPENS DURING EVERY TRIP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALER CLAIMS THEY CHECK ALL THE "CODES" AND COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. I HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 6 TO 8 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH NO SOLUTION.

I T-BONED ANOTHER CAR THAT HAD RUN A RED LIGHT. THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT AIR BAG DID DEPLOY. I WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE HOSPITAL FOUND MULTIPULE CONTUSIONS, SPRAINS AND STRAINS TO MY CHEST WALL, LOWER BACK, NECK, HANDS AND WRISTS. MY PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR RAN ADDITIONAL TESTS, WHICH FOUND NO ADDITIONAL INJURIES EXCEPT, BOTH HANDS HAD A FRACTURE OF THE 3RD METACARPAL (THE BONE LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HAND) AND A TEAR OF THE TFCC (TRIANGULAR FIBROCARTILAGE COMPLEX) IN BOTH WRISTS. WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE WRISTS. SINCE THE INJURIES TO BOTH HANDS AND WRISTS ARE IDENTICAL AND NO OTHER BROKEN BONES OR SOFT TISSUE TEARS WERE FOUND ON MY BODY, I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED TO FORCEFULLY CAUSING THESE INJURIES TO MY HANDS AND WRISTS. IF THE INJURIES TO MY HANDS AND WRISTS HAD BEEN CAUSED BY THEM HITTING PARTS OF THE INSIDE OF THE CAR, THE INJURIES TO MY HANDS AND WRISTS WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SEAT SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT FOR FRONT SEAT PASSENGER INDICATES "AIRBAG IS OFF" WHEN AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. ADULT WEIGHS 125LBS. I HAVE TAKEN VIDEO OF THIS AS EVIDENCE. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE ALSO CALLED NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE TO REPORT THIS. NISSAN SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL OR ISSUE. I BEG TO DIFFER. NHTSA BULLIETIN 08V521000 LIST OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS) "FAILS TO RECOGNIZE ADULT IN SEAT AND SHUTS OFF PASSENGER AIRBAG". SHAME ON NISSAN.
2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR SEAT POSSIBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. THIS IS SAFETY ISSUE FOR AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IN ACCIDENTS. NISSAN HAS BEEN NOTIFIED WITH CASE# 18895692, THEY ARE REVIEWING. DEALER NOTE: DTC B1129 - B1132 FRONT RH SIDE AIR BAG MODULE: THE FRONT RH SIDE AIR BAG MODULE IS WIRED TO THE AIR BAG DIAGNOSIS SENSOR UNIT. THE AIR BAG DIAGNOSIS SENSOR UNIT WILL MONITOR AND SHORTS IN DETECTED LINES TO THE FRONT RH SIDE BAG MODULE. REPLACE THE FRONT RH SEAT BACK ASSEMBLY.

THE VEHICLE DROPPED DOWN TO THE SIDEWALK ON TO THE CURB CAUSING THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE SIDE CURTAIN AND THE SEAT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

MY PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK WHEN A PASSENGER IS SITTING THERE. THAT IS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK, PUTTING IT IN DRIVE DOESN'T MATTER IT STILL SAYS THAT PASSENGER AIRBAG IS OFF. THE ONLY TEMPORARY FIX IS FOR THE PASSENGER TO BOUNCE IN THE SEAT AND IT MIGHT TURN THE AIRBAG ON AND GET RID OF THE MESSAGE LIGHT ON THE CENTER OF THE DASH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MPH WHEN AN ANIMAL JUMPED IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO A DITCH AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT.
