THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT CALLED MTN VIEW NISSAN AT (423) 756-1500 (LOCATED AT 2100 SOUTH MARKET STREET, CHATTANOOGA, TN 37408) AND WAS AWAITING A CALL BACK TO SCHEDULE A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED IN 2014. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000.

AT APPROX. 60,000 MILES THIS CAR BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS STALLING AT INTERSECTIONS, HIGHWAYS, AND INCLINES. STOPPED ON AN INCLINE I HAD TO HAVE 3 CARS BACK UP AND MOVE SO MY CAR COULD ROLL BACKWARDS DOWN THE HILL AND PARK FOR 30 MINUTES. I HAVE BEEN IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS WHERE I WOULD DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR NOT MOVE IN ON COMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF NISSAN AND THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH NO RESOLUTION. IT IS OBVIOUSLY THE CVT TRANSMISSION SLOWLY GOING BAD. ON 6/15/15, WHILE ON HIGHWAY MY CAR STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. STARTED UP AFTER FEW ATTEMPTS. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON. I SCANNED FOR ERROR CODE AND I'VE GOT P0340 (CRANK POSITION AND/OR CAMSHAFT SENSOR(S)). ON 6/26/15 I TOOK THE CAR TO HILTON HEAD NISSAN DEALER IN HARDEEVILLE, SC - THEY SCANNED IT POSITIVE FOR CODE P0340(CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT FAILURE) AND THEY REPLACED THE TWO SENSORS. THEY NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT NISSAN RECALL FOR SENSORS (NHTSA #03V4550000). I FOUND TODAY ABOUT THIS RECALL AND CALLED NISSAN DEALER ON 6/27/16 - THEY TOLD ME THE CAR IS TO OLD TO APPLY THE RECALL, DESPITE THE FACT THAT NISSAN MURANO 2003 IS SPECIFIED ON THE RECALL AND DESPITE HAVING THE SAME COMPLICATION IDENTIFIED BY NISSAN AND NHTSA WHICH NECESSITATED THE RECALL. IN ADDITION, LETTER WRITTEN BY THE TECHNICAL COMPLIANCE DEPARTMENT OF NISSAN TO THE NHTSA, DATED 12/4/03, CLEARLY STATES THAT MY CAR IS INCLUDED IN THE LIST OF RECALLED VEHICLES. NO UPDATED LETTER OR OTHER PUBLIC INFORMATION FOUND STATING THAT CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE CAR REPAIRED. THIS IS A GROSS SAFETY ISSUE AND I AM NOT CLEAR AS TO WHY THEY REFUSED TO SERVICE MY VEHICLE AS PER THE RECALL AND I HAD TO PAY FOR SENSORS REPLACEMENT. PLEASE ADDRESS. THANK YOU. *TR

THE CAR STALLS AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES OF RUNNING/DRIVING. IT HAPPENED TWICE IN ONE DAY. THAT MORNING I STARTED THE CAR, IT WARMED UP FOR 5 MINUTES, DROVE 15 MILES TO WORK, IT STALLED AS I PULLED IN TO THE PARKING LOT. IT RESTARTED BUT WAS SLOW TO DO SO. THE CAR SAT FOR 5.5 HOURS WHILE AT WORK. I STARTED THE CAR WITHOUT WARMING UP, DROVE 20 MILES, IT STALLED A BLOCK BEFORE MY HOME. IT RESTARTED SAME AS EARLIER THAT DAY. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR A WEEK, HAD THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR REPLACED YESTERDAY. TODAY, STARTED THE CAR, LET IT SIT IN THE DRIVEWAY. AFTER 30 MINUTES IT STOPPED RUNNING. WHILE DRIVING MY WIFE TO WORK MY CAR STOPPED WORKING AND I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 50 MILES AND HOUR AND THE SAME THING HAPPEN TWICE. THE CAR WILL NOR START UNLESS I GIVE IT SOME GAS BY STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR. I CHECKED THE FAILURE CODES AND GOT P0340, BANK 1 CAMSHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR FAILURE. CALLED MY NISSAN DEALER IN SANTA ROSA CALIF. AND WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF RECALL 03V455000. (SERIOUS LIFE THREATENING ) PROBLEM EXIST SINCE HAS 65,000 FIXED AT 72000 MILES AND RECURRED AFTER 5000 MILES. (WHEN CAR TURNED OFF AND ON IT WILL WORK FINE FOR FEW MINUTES). WHEN THE CAR HAS AROUND 62000 I TOOK IT TO ORIGINAL DEALER AND FOR THE LOSS OF POWER PROBLEM AND THE SERVICE MANAGER CLAIMED THAT THE CAR HAS NO OIL. BUT THE SENSOR OF THE OIL NEVER SHOWED LOW ON OIL 2- CAR STOPS ALL THE SUDDEN FOR NO REASON. THEN WHEN TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN IT WORKS FINE FOR FEW WEEKS THEN PROBLEM REPEAT AGAIN. 3- CAR JERKS SO BAD FEW TIMES AT SPEED 35 - 45 MILES AN HOUR AND THEN CHECK ENGINE SHOWS. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING 60MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. THE CAR BEGAN DO LOSE ACCELERATION. IT JERKED AND FINALLY BEGAN TO RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. THE SES LIGHT CAME ON ALSO. IT WAS REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID IT WAS THE OXYGEN SENSORS. THIS COST $1000.00. FIVE MONTHS LATER THE CAR LOST POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN A TUNNEL. I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. I DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT BEFORE GETTING THERE THE CAR LOST POWER AGAIN AT A STOPLIGHT, , WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, FINALLY REGAINED SOME POWER AND I BASICALLY COASTED INTO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOW A CAMSHAFT AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. THIS COST 420.00. A FEW WEEKS LATER AFTER COMING OFF THE RAMP OF THE INTERSTATE THE CAR LURCHED SO HARD THAT IT HURT MY BACK. I FELT LIKE IT JUMPED OUT OF GEAR BUT IT WAS STILL IN DRIVE AND LOST ACCELERATION AGAIN. I RESTARTED IT AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY THE SES LIGHT CAME ON. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON THE COMPUTER AND FOUND OUT THAT MANY 2003 NISSAN MURANOS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM BUT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT ON THE LIST. IT STATED THAT THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT STATED THAT THE CAR COULD STOP WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSE A CRASH.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND THE TEST SHOWED THAT THE CRANK POSITIONING SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT ABOUT A RECALL FOR THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING ( 03V455000). THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE RECALL AND WAS INFORMED THAT VIN WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED SINCE THE VEHICLE COULD SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD EXTEND THE RECALL TO MORE VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
