TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE ALTERNATOR AND BRAKE LIGHT INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AT THE COST OF $874. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE DEALER IN VERMONT REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V319000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR). THE DEALER IN CONNECTICUT STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS NEVER PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CAMPAIGN EXPIRED IN 2006; THEREFORE, THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION WITH THE RECALLED INFORMATION. ALTERNATOR TENSIONER BRACKET FAILED (SNAPPED) PREMATURELY DUE TO METAL FATIGUE IN THE PART CAUSING LOUD RATTLE TO COME FROM VEHICLE. TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (BRACKET AND BELT) HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $352. VEHICLE WAS BARELY OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
FAN / ALTERNATOR BELT SHREDDED ON 04' MURANO WITH LESS THAN 26,000 MILES. CAUGHT AND TAKEN TO DEALER BEFORE COMPLETE FAILURE. SAME THING HAPPENED ON 02 MAXIMA WITH APPROX. SAME MILEAGE. MAXIMA BELT FAILED COMPLETELY, NEEDED JUMPER BOX TO CHARGE ALTERNATOR ENOUGH TO GET HOME. DEALER HAS NO EXPLANATION FOR BELT FAILURES, BUT BOTH VEHICLES HAVE THE SAME ENGINE, AND SEEMS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW. *JB
AFTER 64 DAYS AT DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE FAULTY AIR BAGS I RETRIEVED MY CAR TODAY. I DROVE APPROX 1/8 MILE TO THE GAS STATION ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET FROM NISSAN, PULLED INTO THE GAS STATION, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, GAS ATTENDANT FILLED GAS TANK....THEN I TURNED THE KEY AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. CHECK SVC ENGINE, AIRBAG, SEAT BELT LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED, BUT ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I CALLED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. ANNOYED BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY VEHICLE FOR 60 SOME ODD DAYS, AND THE VERY DAY I GET IT BACK THIS HAPPENED. THE FINALE WAS WHEN THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE WOULD SEND A TOW TRUCK, AND HUNG UP ON ME, AFTER I ASKED HOW WAS I SUPPOSE TO TRAVEL FROM POINT A TO POINT B. I CALLED BACK, ANOTHER MANAGER CAME OVER IN A CAR WITH A MECHANICAL GAVE ME A JUMP START WHICH ALLOWED ME TO FOLLOW THEM BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID MY BATTERY WAS NO GOOD AND THEY REPLACED IT. A NO GOOD BATTERY AFTER 2 YEARS AND 31,548 MILES, UMM, SEEMS STRANGE. *NM
VEHICLE HAD RECALL ISSUED ON JULY 14TH, 2005. THE RECALL WAS CHANGING THE ALTERNATOR. OUR VEHICLE HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. THE RECALL WAS TO MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE DOES NOT FAIL WHILE DRIVING (SHUT DOWN). OUR VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON 9/28/06, AFTER IT HAD RECALL PERFORMED. IT HAD THE EXACT CONSEQUENCE AS IF THE RECALL HAD NOT BEEN PERFORMED. *NM
2004 MURANO WAS RECALLED FOR BAD ALTERNATORS - I NEVER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE; HOWEVER, WHILE DRIVING IN 6 LANES OF TRAFFIC, WARNINGS LIGHTS CAME ON. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED BY A NISSAN DEALERSHIP, WHETHER FROM THE CAMPAIGN RECALL OR MY EXTENDED WARRANTY, UNSURE. NOW, I HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY, WHICH NO ALLOWANCE HAS BEEN APPLIED TO THE ABOVE RECALL FOR THE ROLL OUT AFFECT. THERE HAS BEEN 3 RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE, SO FAR.*JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED, WHILE TRAVELING AT 50 MPH., THE BRAKE AND BATTERY WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED JUST BEFORE THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE AN INSPECTION FOUND A DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR WAS THE CAUSE.
2004 NISSAN MURANO BROKE DOWN, UPON INSPECTION MECHANIC DETERMINED IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. CONSUMER WAS NOT NOTIFIED ABOUT A RECALL ON THE ALTERNATOR. *KB ***NAR*** THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY. A NHTSA RECALL, #05V319000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE ON MARCH 28, 2005 CONCERNING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ALTERNATOR/ GENERATOR/ REGULATOR HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR WITHOUT CHARGE UNDER THE RECALL.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE CHARGER WARNING AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. HE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. HE SPOKE WITH HALF A DOZEN PEOPLE IN THE DEALERSHIP, WHO STATED THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE IN REGARD TO THE LIGHTS. THE NEXT MORNING HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE. UPON LOOKING UP THE VIN,THEY FOUND THERE WAS RECALL 05V319000 CONCERNING THE ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE WORK WAS PERFORMED. APPROXIMATELY 24 DAYS LATER HE RECEIVED THE RECALL LETTER CONCERNING THE ALTERNATOR. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT HE DID NOT RECEIVE THE LETTER IN A TIMELY MANNER, AND THEY ONLY SENT IT BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED . *AK UPDATED 3/17/2006 - THE RECALL LETTER WAS RECEIVED FOUR MONTH AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. WHEN THE ALTERNATOR FAILED THE VEHICLE WENT INTO SAFE MODE AND COULD NOT BE DRIVE FORWARD, ONLY IN REVERSE. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT HAD NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V319000 REPAIRS PERFORMED CONCERNING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR. AFTERWARDS, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER AND THE ENGINE DIED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
2004 NISSAN MURANO FAILED TO RUN ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. WIFE ON WAY HOME FROM WORK AND THE CAR JUST QUIT ON A BUSY FAST EXIT RAMP OFF I-95. AFTER BEING TOWED TO DEALER THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. TO COMPLETELY STOP ON THE HIGHWAY TO ME IS A VERY RISKY TYPE OF FAILURE.
DT: THE CALLER SAID SHE HAS A RECALL ON HER VEHICLE AND CANNOT GET THE WORK DONE. SHE SAID HER CHARGE LIGHT IS COMING ON, AND THE BRAKE LIGHT IS COMING ON, BUT SHE IS NOT EXPERIENCING ANY OTHER PROBLEMS. RECEIVED MANUFACTURING RECALL P5215 CONCERNING ALTERNATOR. DEALER SAID THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS. MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED A WEEK AGO, AND THEY SAID THEY WILL CALL HER BACK, BUT HAVE NOT CALLED HER YET.*AK
THERE IS CURRENTLY A NATIONAL RECALL ON THE NISSAN MURANO. I OWN A 2004 MURANO AND WAS INSTRUCTED BY NISSAN CORP. TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND HAVE THE WORK DONE BECAUSE THE PROBLEM COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I ATTEMPTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO VICTORY NISSAN DEALERSHIP ON BATTLEFIELD BLVD IN CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER ON THE RECALLED PART IN QUESTION. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT IT WOULD TAKE THREE TO FOUR MONTHS BEFORE THEY COULD GET TO MY VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A RECALL WITH POTENTIAL LIFE-THREATENING PROBLEMS. HOPE YOU CAN HELP. *NM
THE NISSAN MURANO 2004 SL DOESN'T START THE ENGINE PERIODICALLY. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. I'VE BEE LEFT STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY BETWEEN JUNE 2005 AND AUGUST 2005. I BROUGHT THE CAR FOR REPAIRS FOUR TIME ALREADY. THE FOLLOWING JOBS HAS BEEN PERFORMED: 1) ELECTRIC SYSTEM CHECKED - NOTHING FOUND 2) ALTERNATOR REPLACED AS A PART OF THE RE-CALL 3) KEYS RE-PROGRAMMED SEVERAL TIMES 4) TODAY I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY(KOEPPEL NISSAN AT NYC) WILL TRY TO REPLACE THE TRANSPONDER (IF I UNDERSTAND CORRECTLY, THIS IS PART OF THE SECURITY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM).- WILL SEE IF THIS ONE WORKS. I PERSONALLY DO THINK THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM - BUT NISSAN REFUSES TO PERFORM THE DETAILED DIAGNOSTICS...TELLING ME THAT IT COULD BE HUNDRED DIFFERENT REASONS WHY THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. AT THIS POINT I AM GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF THIS ENTIRE PROCESS - WILL FILE FOR BBB ARBITRATION AND THEN FOR THE LAW SUIT AGAINST NISSAN TO RECOVERY MY MONEY AND COMPENSATION FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE CAR. *NM
ON JULY 2, 2005 WARNING LIGHTS COME ON (BRAKE AND ALTERNATOR). SINCE IT WAS BEFORE A LONG WEEKEND (JULY 4) WE COULDN'T DO TOO MUCH UNTIL JULY 5. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO DELIVER VEHICLE TO ANY DEALER, SO WE WERE FORCED TO PUT IT IN A LOCAL GARAGE. ALTERNATOR FAILED AND BATTERY WAS DEAD AFTER 24,000 MILES AND 17 MONTHS OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC, REIMBURSMENT FOR OUR EXPENSES ARE UNDER DISPUTE WITH NISSAN.
DT: THE ENGINE STALLED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 35 MPH. NO WARNING LIGHTS HAD COME ON, PRIOR TO THE ENGINE STALLING. THE HEATER MOTOR BLOWER STOPPED WORKING AND ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE STEERING WAS LOST. AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE HAD COME TO A STOP, THE CONSUMER SHIFTED THE GEAR INTO PARK AND THE ENGINE RESTARTED. *AK THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. *SC *JB
THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT AND THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER ABOUT 30 MILES THE CAR "DIED" WHEN I WAS GOING 65 MPH
DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ONE MONTH AGO AND SINCE THEN HAS BEEN UNABLE TO GET THE RECALL REPAIRS DONE. THE DEALERSHIPS COULD NOT GET THE PARTS TO DO THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE NISSAN MANUFACTURER. SINCE THEN, THE CONSUMER'S WIFE HAD GOTTEN STUCK IN THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS ALMOST BEING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. NISSAN TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE VEHICLES ACTIONS. THE CONSUMER WAS UNSURE OF WHEN THEY WOULD PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIRS ON THE VEHICLE. NISSAN WAS NOT WILLING TO PROVIDE THE CONSUMER WITH A RENTAL CAR. WHILE DRIVING DOWN MY STREET, MY 2004 MURANO (ONLY 7,000 MILES) LOST ACCELERATION AND I COULD NOT GET DOWN THE STREET. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED. I ACTUALLY MADE IT TO MY DRIVEWAY WHERE IT STALLED FOR GOOD. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY REPLACED A DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR. IT WAS ALL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OF COURSE, BUT I THINK THIS TYPE OF FAILURE COULD BE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TO OTHER DRIVERS OF MURANO'S.
(1) I DROVE FROM CHAPEL HILL, NC TO WASHINGTON, DC THE MORNING/AFTERNOON OF THE ALTERNATOR FAILURE. I WAS SITTING IDLE (WITH CAR AND A/C ON) IN FRONT OF THE VIENNA, VA METRO STATION WAITING FOR A FRIEND. I WAS DRIVING MYSELF AND 3 OTHER PEOPLE TO A CONCERT BEING HELD THAT NIGHT (SUNDAY JUNE 26 2005) AT NISSAN PAVILION IN BRISTOWN, VA. (2) AS I PLACED MY CAR IN PARK TO DRIVE AWAY WITH MY 3 FRIENDS INSIDE I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 1 OR 2 MPH. I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL, BUT THE ENGINER WOULD NOT REV. I PLACED THE CAR IN REVERSE...SAME THING. I PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE CAR REVVED. THE BATTERY AND PARKING LIGHT WERE ON. AFTER A FEW MORE ATTEMPTS TO GET THE CAR MOVING I DECIDED TO SHUT IT OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND TRY AGAIN. THIS TIME AROUND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. (3) I HAD THE CAR TOWED BY AAA TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALER. THEY FIXED (REPLACED?) THE ALTERNATOR AND I WAS ABLE TO PICK IT UP AGAIN THAT EVENING.
DURING NOMINAL OPERATIONS, THE BREAK AND BATTERY WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHICH WAS A SIGNAL THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAS FAILED. THIS MODEL VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS ALTERNATOR FAILURES.
2004 NISSAN MURANO ALTERNATOR FAILURE AT 18,000 MILES ON ODOMETER.
THE BRAKE AND BATTERY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT 15 MORE MILES BEFORE THE CAR APPEARED TO STALL. AFTER PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I DETERMINED THAT I WAS STILL ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR, ALBEIT AT A MAXIMUM OF 5 MPH. LUCKILY, I WAS ONLY FIVE BLOCKS FROM HOME AT THE TIME AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE THE CAR AND PARK IT IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TECHNICIANS DETERMINED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE AS THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WITH ONLY 6500 MILES.
BATTERY & BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON, FEW HOURS LATER CAR STARTED STALLING, CAR THEN CUT OFF AND WAS JUST IDLE, COULD NOT ACCELERATE, DASH BOARD TURNED OFF, CAR SPUTTERRED THEN TURNED OFF. TAKING CAR TO DEALERSHIP TOMORROW
