Blinking airbag sign in my Nissan Murano since week. Reset did not work by mechanic..
Nissan has a voluntary recall for faulty air bag sensors on 2009 Nissan Murano but when you take it in they say your vin is not included. This is fraud because they know that ALL Muranos from 2009 and other years have a faulty sensor in the passenger seat and the air bags will NOT deploy. They lie because the fix is a new seat cushion which is expensive. They try to charge owners $5000 to repair a safety issue that is their responsibility. There are many, many complaints for this issue and many people are driving around without airbags because of Nissan’s dereliction. How many people will die??
In reference to my 2009 Murano, I like to bring my concern/complaint into your attention that since Jan 07, 2023, my Murano's airbag light is blinking. On Jan. 16, 2023, I took my SUV to ACME Nissan dealer situated at 2050 Highway 130, South Brunswick, NJ. 08852 for checkup and repair. Dealer diagnosed airbag issue code B1018 and advised "in control unit K8820-1AL0A and 873A2-3Z53A seat sensor are bad and need to be replaced. Dealer mentioned that they cannot replace these part/sensors, because they are not available thru Nissan anymore. Dealer also tried to get these parts from the aftermarket dealer. But these parts are also not available in aftermarket. Not functioning of airbags is a big-time Safety issue. I contacted Nissan customer service support and opened the case (48254432). But some reason they are not helping me at all in resolving this safety issue. Their answer is, they cannot do anything for this issue. While going through the Nissan forum, I noticed that this safety issue is common in Nissan Murano. This wonders that why Nissan have not issued any recall on this airbag safety issues. Are they going to issue the recall after someone die in the accident because of this airbag issues. Now I cannot even trade my SUV because of this safety issue. Now I am too afraid to drive my 2009 Murano. I love my Murano so much it runs like a new and I am not in the position to buy a new Murano at this time. I would really appreciate if you can request Nissan to rectify this issue as soon as possible.
The icon for the passenger airbags are flashing on my vehicle dashboard about two months ago (11/2022). Back in 2013 my vehicle was in a crash with substantial front end damage…no other vehicle was involved. Also the airbags in front row seats did not deploy. I’m planning on taking in my vehicle to get it checked out and tuned. Any guidance from NHTSA is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the passenger's side air bag needed to be replaced; however, the parts were not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer informed the contact that the passenger's side air bag part was no longer being manufactured. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. The consumer stated that a replacement part was available from a salvage dealer but it wouldn't work because her vehicle would need the exact make and model that it came with. AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON DASHBOARD STARTED BLINKING AND WILL NOT STOP. TOOK 2009 MURANO TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE AIRBAG SENSORS WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE MY ENTIRE PASSENGER SEAT TO FIX IT, AT A COST OF OVER $5,000. THE MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR OF MY VEHICLE IS INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN 08V521000, WHICH HIGHLIGHTS THIS IDENTICAL PROBLEM YET MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. HOW CAN THIS BE? NISSAN SHOULD COVER THIS SEVERE SAFETY FAILURE THAT IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF 2009 MURANOS. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAS ABOUT 80,000 MILES. VEHICLE NO LONGER FEELS SAFE TO DRIVE AND REPAIR COST IS PROHIBITIVELY HIGH.
FRONT AND PASSENGER BAGS JUST WENT OUT. WAS NEVER INVOLVED IN A WRECK. VERY STRANGE. WORRIED SICK NOW ABOUT THE SAFETY OF DRIVING IT. PLEASE HELP *DT CONSUMER IS STILL WAITING FOR A RESPONSE.*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO PALMETTO 57 NISSAN (16725 NW 57TH AVE, MIAMI GARDENS, FL 33055) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENSOR ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG CONTROL QUIT WORKING. THE RED LIGHT IS ON IN THE DASH. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. NISSAN HAS A RECALL NVTSA # 08V-521 AND THE CAMPAIGN ID FOR THE 2009 MURANO NUMBER IS Z51. THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR IS THE SAME AS THE RECALL. I ONLY GET THE RUNAROUND FROM NISSAN ABOUT MY PROBLEM. I CAN NOT USE THE CAR IF I HAVE A PASSENGER. I NEED HELP FOR THIS PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V066000 (AIR BAGS). THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. CARR NISSAN (3855 SW CEDAR HILLS BLVD, BEAVERTON, OR 97005, (503) 643-8676) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT FLASHES CONSTANTLY WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING AND BEING DRIVEN. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE ENTIRE BOTTOM CUSHION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $4000. IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM OTHER MURANO'S ARE HAVING, BUT MY CARS VIN NUMBER WASN'T ON THE RECALL LIST, SO THIS WOULD BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD TURN THE FLASHING INDICATOR OFF, BUT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IF IN AN ACCIDENT. NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL 2009 MURANO'S BUT REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM BY ADDING IT TO THE RECALL LIST. IT IS UNIMAGINABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE THAT NISSAN WILL ALLOW THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO BE TURNED OFF KNOWING THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY AND RISK SEVERE INJURY, OR POSSIBLE LOSS OF LIFE RATHER THAN MAKE THIS A RECALL FIX. ALSO THE CAR ONLY HAS 58000 MILES ON IT.
MURANO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR OTHER 2009 MURANOS FOR OCS SENSOR ISSUE. AIRBAG LIGHT WAS TRIGGERED (STAYS FLASHING AFTER VEHICLE HAS BEEN STARTED STATIONARY & IN MOTION) & CODE B1032 CAME UP AT NISSAN DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VIN WASN'T INCLUDED IN RECALL, DESPITE IT BEING SAME TRIGGER, YEAR, MAKE & MODEL RECALLED. I REQUESTED INFO ON HOW CLOSE IN MANUFACTURING TO THE RECALLED VEHICLES MINE IS & WAS INFORMED THAT INFO ISN'T KNOWN. THAT INFO IS TRACKED SOMEWHERE & THAT'S HOW RECALLS ARE ISSUED. TO GET THIS REPAIRED WOULD COST ME OVER $2.500 (PER ESTIMATE ON RECORD). HOW DO I GET THIS INVESTIGATED SO MINE CAN BE INCLUDED AS IT IS THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, MODEL & ISSUE INVOLVED IN RECALL?
AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT/OCS SYSTEM FAILURE. ACCORDING TO RECALL #08V521000, THERE IS A HISTORY WITH PROBLEMS WITH MY MAKE & MODEL OF VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TRY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE REPEATEDLY AND WHILE THEY TURN OFF THE DASHBOARD LIGHT ILLUMINATING THE PROBLEM, IT SIMPLY ILLUMINATES AGAIN IN A FEW DAYS. NOW THEY TELL ME I NEED TO PURCHASE A NEW SEAT CUSHION AT A COST OF ALMOST $5,000. MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING UP IN THE RECALL NOTICE BUT THIS IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING WITH MY CAR. I CAN PROVIDE A PICTURE OF THE AIRBAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD, IF YOU NEED IT.
PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT BLINKS CONSTANTLY.
TAKATA RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT MY CAR IS NOT UNDER RECALL BUT MY AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT KEEPS FLASHING AND MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR SAYS THAT THIS IF OFF. I HAVE TRIED TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF, BUCKLING THE SEATBELT AS PER INSTRUCTIONS. LIGHT FOR SENSOR WILL NOT GO OFF WHEN DRIVING, STATIONARY, OR IDLING.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASH IS FLASHING. INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM MAYBE FAULTY NISSAN WANTS $120. FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST OF THE SYSTEM. THIS CAR IS A 2009 MURANO AND ONLY 47,000. MILES NO ACCIDENT OR ANYTHING TO CAUSE THE LIGHT TO GO ON. IN ALL MY YEARS AND CARS I HAVE NEVER HAD A AIRBAG LIGHT GO ON FOR NO REASON.
