VEHICLE SURGES, REVS WHEN ACCELERATING, STALLS WHEN DECELERATING, HAVE HAD PROBLEM SINCE CAR WAS NEW. NOW 19 MONTHS OLD. RETURNED TO DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM. "WITHIN DESIGN PARAMETERS" THEY SAY. TWO CONTACTS WITH TOYOTA H.O. REP. ACTUALLY CALLED IT A "DESIGN DEFECT". TOLD ME TO "PAT THE ACCLERATOR" WHEN I HAVE THE PROBLEM. ALSO TOLD ME "MULTIPLE DRIVERS" WILL HELP THE CAR PERFORM BETTER. THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS AND UNTRUSTWORTHY. THOUSANDS OF OTHERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. NO FIX AS THIS TRULY IS A DESIGN DEFECT, "DRIVE BY WIRE" SCHEME. WILL ANYONE WITH CLOUT STEP UP? PAID $30000 FOR THE VEHICLE. V6 XLE. JUNK. EVERYONE ADMITS THE PROBLEM, NO ONE ASSUMES THE RESPONSIBILITY.
THE AUTOMOBILE CONSISTENTLY HESITATES WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. THIS OCCURS WHEN LEAVING STOP SIGNS, MERGING AT MEDIUM SPEEDS AND PASSING ON 2-WAY OR DIVIDED HIGHWAYS AND ACCELERATING AFTER DECELERATING. IT THEN OVER ACCELERATES WHEN IT MAKES UP ITS MIND YOU WANT TO GO FASTER AFTER A SECOND OR TWO. TOYOTA CLAIMS THE CAR WORKS AS DESIGNED. I FEAR FOR MY LIFE IN THIS AUTOMOBILE, SINCE THE OTHER DRIVERS DO NOT REALIZE THAT THIS CAR IS A PIECE OF JUNK. *TR
I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2005 4-CYLINDER CAMRY IN 2004 AFTER OWING A 1988 WITH 256,000 MILES AND BEING EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH IT. HOWEVER, I WAS DISSATISFIED WITH MY NEW CAMRY ONLY AFTER HAVING IT FOR A WEEK WHEN I STARTED NOTICING HOW IT WOULD HESITATE FROM TAKING OFF FROM A DEAD STOP AND WHEN TURNING CORNERS. I STILL CAN??T FIGURE WHAT TURNING CORNERS HAS TO DO WITH SPEED. I HAD TO CHANGE MY DRIVING HABITS BECAUSE IT WAS GETTING DANGEROUS. I NOW HAVE TO ALLOW LONGER A FEW MORE SECONDS TO TURN IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC, IN CASE IT HESITATES SINCE IT DOESN'T DO THIS CONSISTENTLY. I TOOK IT IN TO TOYOTA, THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM, 60 MILES FROM WHERE I LIVE, TWICE AND THEY COULDN'T SEEM TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY SEEMED TO KNOW OF THE PROBLEM, DUE TO OTHERS REPORTING IT AND THEM SENSING IT THEMSELVES, BUT JUST ACKNOWLEDGED IT WASN'T AN ISSUE TO BE FIXED. THEY GAVE US THE NAME OF THEIR CUSTOMER RELATIONS REPRESENTATIVE IN CALIFORNIA TO CONTACT, WHICH WE DID. WHEN FIRST CONTACTING HIM, HE TOO MADE IT SOUND LIKE IT WAS VERY IMPORTANT AND HE WOULD IMMEDIATELY TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE AND GET BACK WITH US. THE NEXT THING WE HEARD FROM HIM WAS THE SAME THING WE HAD ALREADY HEARD, THIS ISN'T A PROBLEM, THIS IS NORMAL, THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO FOR YOU. THIS MAY NOT BE PROBLEM FOR THEM BUT IT IS FOR ME AND IT SURE SOUNDS LIKE IT IS A PROBLEM FOR AN AWFUL LOT OF OTHERS OUT THERE THAT ARE COMPLAINING ON THIS WEBSITE TOO. I AM CURRENTLY THE OWNER OF A 2007 LE 4 CYLINDER CAMRY. AT APPROXIMATELY 76K MILES MY TRANS STARTED ACTING FUNNY AS IF IT DID NOT WANT TO PULL AND WAS LEAKING TRANS FLUID. UPON TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A VERY BAD LEAK (WHICH MAY HAVE RESULTED IN A BAD/DEFECTIVE SEAL) AND THAT BEFORE ANY FURTHER WORK COULD BE DONE IT NEEDED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. THE NEXT DAY I WAS TOLD THAT THE PUMP WAS DAMAGED, AS WELL AS, THE TORQUE CONVERTER. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REPLACE THE WHOLE TRANS. EITHER WAY I'M LOOKING AT A 4K BILL WHICH I CAN'T AFFORD AND THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER AND TO NO AVAIL I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. *JB
WE BOUGHT OUR 2005 CAMRY LE V6 IN THE FALL OF 2004. FROM DAY ONE, WE NOTICED THE HESITATION. WHEN LEAVING A STOP SIGN, FOR EXAMPLE, IT WOULD LAG FOR A SPLIT SECOND, THEN SUDDENLY JERK INTO GEAR. THE FIRST WEEK WE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL FOR THE FIRST 1000 MILES. WHEN IT CONTINUED WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE COMPUTER. WE MENTIONED IT AT EVERY WARRANTY CHECK AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER SAW THE PROBLEM. WE WISH WE KNEW THAT WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ONES SO WE WOULD HAVE PURSUED IT EARLIER. TOYOTA NEVER MENTIONED KNOWING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS IN THE 2005 CAMRY. NOW OUR DAUGHTER HAS TO LEARN HOW TO DRIVE! *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING IN SECOND GEAR (MPH UNKNOWN) THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DOWNSHIFT WHEN HE ACCELERATED. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION CHIP HOWEVER, THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER DRIVING 6,000 MILES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000.
TL* - THE CONTACT STATES THAT ON 12/9/06 SHE DRIVING WHEN HER VEHICLE HAD POWER SURGE THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR. SHE WAS PARKING WHEN HER VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND JUMPED THE CURB. SHE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE SAYING THAT THEY HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR OCCURRENCE. THE CONTACT SAID THAT SHE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE PROBLEM IS A RESULT OF A FAULTY SPEED CONTROL MODULATOR. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT A REPAIR SHOP. THE CONTACT ALSO HAS A COPY OF A POLICE REPORT.
RE 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY V-6 XLE 5-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (A/T), 1MZ-FE ENGINE. VEHICLE PURCHASED NOV 30 2004. FROM DAY OF PURCHASE THROUGH CURRENT, A/T HAS NOT SHIFTED SMOOTHLY AS IT WAS ADVERTISED TO. FOLLOWING DEPENDS ON ACCELERATOR PRESSURE - DOES NOT OCCUR ALWAYS. HESITANT & SOMETIMES HARSH FROM 1ST TO 2ND & 2ND TO 3RD PERIODICALLY, IN 35 TO 45 MPH RANGE, ROUGH SHIFT DOWN AND THEN BACK UP. AT TIMES THE HESITANT SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 3RD HAS PUT ME IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION. IT IS NOT A "SURE/POSITIVE" SHIFT - IT WINDS UP BEFORE IT ENGAGES. PRIOR VEHICLE WAS 1999 CAMRY V6 - NO SHIFTING PROBLEMS. *JB
CONSUMER 2005 CAMRY HAS A PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *TS THE CONSUMER STATED FROM A STOPPED POSITION, ABOUT 20% OF THE TIME , THE FIRST TWO TRANSMISSION SHIFTS WILL EXTEND BEYOND A NORMAL TIME PERIOD WHILE THE CAR'S ENGINE REVS TO ABOUT 3000 RPMS. AT TIMES, WHEN SLOWING TO ABOUT 10 TO 20 MPH AND THEN ACCELERATING, ABOUT 80% OF THE TIME THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HESITATE FOR 2 TO 3 SECONDS WHILE IT SELECTS A GEAR AND WILL THEN ENGAGE, SOMETIMES IN A HARSH MANNER DEPENDING UPON THE PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. THERE WAS NO SPECIFIC TIME WHEN THE ERRATIC SHIFTS WOULD OCCUR. *JB
PURCHASED A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY LE AND I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. AT ABOUT 24-30 MPH IT WILL REV TO ABOUT 3000-4000 RPMS BEFORE IT SWITCHES TO 2ND GEAR. ALSO WHEN SLOWING DOWN THE CAR WILL JERK INTO GEAR. ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN TRYING TO PASS CARS IT WILL JUST IGNORE MY REQUEST FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CAR!!! TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY STATED IT IS WORKING AS DESIGNED. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND TOYOTA NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 24 AND 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE, INTERMITTENTLY, LOST POWER THEN SLAMMED INTO GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP DID ACKNOWLEDGE THERE WAS A PROBLEM, BUT STATED INSTALLING A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD CEASE. UPDATED 03/28/06. *JB
CAR HESITATE AFTER SLOWING DOWN WITH FOOT OFF PEDAL. IF THERE IS A NEED TO ACCELERATE TAKE 2-3 SECOND BEFORE ABRUPTLY ENGAGE. *JB
CAR CONTINUALLY HESITATES THEN SURGES FORWARD ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS BELOW 40 MPH AND ALSO WHEN AC IS ON. DEALER HAS NO FIX. I PROVIDED PRINTOUT OF NHTSA REPORTS BUT I WAS TOLD THAT'S JUST THE WAY THE CAR IS. NO CHOICE BUT TO GET RID OF THIS NEW CAR. *NM

ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO, I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY SE V6. I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OF TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I PUSH ON THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENS...THEN SECONDS LATER (AFTER I'VE TAKEN MY FOOT OFF THE GAS), THE ENGINE REVS UP TO 5000+ RPM AND STAYS THERE FOR A FEW SECONDS. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY! THE DEALER SAID THEY HAD TONS OF COMPLAINTS, SAID THIS BEHAVIOR WAS COMPLETELY NORMAL, BUT HAD TWO "UPGRADES" FOR THE CAR'S COMPUTER SYSTEM. THEY TOLD ME THE UPGRADES WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM...AND IT DID - FOR A WEEK. FOR THAT WEEK, MY BRAND-NEW CAMRY WAS THE GREATEST! AFTER A WEEK, I NOTICED IT SEEMED TO BE SLIPPING BACK INTO IT'S BAD HABITS. NOW, A MONTH LATER, I AM TAKING IT BACK AGAIN. IT IS JUST AS BAD AS WHEN I TOOK IT IN THE FIRST TIME. I HAVE BEEN CLOSE TO GETTING INTO AT LEAST 3 ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. IT IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE, TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS AN ISSUE (THEY HAVE "FIXES"), AND YET THEY KEEP SELLING THEIR CARS. I BOUGHT A NEW CAR SO I WOULDN'T HAVE THESE PROBLEMS! I SPENT A LOT OF MONEY, AND I FEEL LIKE I GOT A LEMON. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. *NM
DT: 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLES TRANSMISSION WAS UNPREDICTABLE. WHEN REVVING THE ENGINE NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK. THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AT 600 MILES. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THERE IS NO PROBLEM, IT IS OPERATING UNDER NORMAL SPECIFICATIONS. THIS HAPPENS MOSTLY DURING ACCELERATION FROM A STOP OR SLOW SPEED. *AK *NM
WHILE PARKING CAR AND APPLYING BRAKE, VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SLOWLY ACCELERATE AND PUSHED IN A TIN WALL HOUSING THE FURNANCE ROOM OF A GYM. CAR RESTED ON THE FURNANCE AND A GAS LINE. TOYOTA DIST. MANAGER SAID HE COULDN'T FIND ANY DEFECTS AND COULDN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM SO SAID THEIR HANDS WERE TIED. NOTHING DONE. *JB
MY 2005 4-CYLINDER TOYOTA CAMRY HAS DELAYED ACCELERATOR AND ROUGH SHIFTING OF TRANSMISSION. BY DELAYED ACCELERATOR I MEAN THAT YOU HAVE TO PRESS ACCELERATOR PEDAL ABOUT 1/4" TO 1/2" BEFORE ENGINE ENGAGES. THIS HAS BEEN DANGEROUS IN PARKING LOTS WHERE SLOW DRIVING MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO KEEP ENGINE AT SAFE SPEED. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO SHIFTS ROUGHLY AND DOWNSHIFTS HARD WHEN DECELERATING DOWN A HILL. I CONTACTED DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASE MY VEHICLE AND SAY THAT IS THE WAY IT IS SINCE IT IS COMPUTERIZED. SINCE THERE ARE NO CABLES TO ADJUST, I AM OUT OF LUCK. I ALSO CONTACTED 800 NUMBER FOR TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WERE NO HELP. THEY DID MENTION THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR SAME PROBLEM ON THE CAMRY V-6. IT SEEMS THAT THE 4-CYLINDER HAS SAME PROBLEM BUT NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO WARRANT A TECHNICAL BULLETIN.
TRANSMISSION HESITATION WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL. AFTER 2 OR 3 SECONDS THE CAR THEN LURCHES FORWARD VIOLENTLY. THIS NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS I ATTEMPTED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS IS A WIDELY KNOWN DEFECT THAT WILL CAUSE MANY ACCIDENTS IF NOT CORRECTED VERY SOON. *JB
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE V6 5SP AUTO IN NOV 2004. SHORTLY AFTER TAKING DELIVERY, WE STARTED TO NOTICE HESITATION IN THE TRANSMISSION WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AND AFTER SLOWING DOWN IN TRAFFIC. WE ALSO FELT A DELAY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO GO INTO PASSING GEAR. THIS DELAY WOULD LAST UP TO A COUPLE OF SECONDS. AFTER THE DELAY WAS FELT, THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE RAPIDLY. THIS WOULD CAUSE A JOLT TO THE PASSENGERS AND DRIVER. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT GETTING THE POWER DEMAND FROM THE ACCELERATOR EQUIPMENT QUICKLY ENOUGH. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TWICE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. THE LAST STATEMENT FROM THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS " I DROVE THE CAR AND CLEARLY UNDERSTAND YOUR COMPLAINT CONCERNING THE HESITATION. THAT IS THE NATURE OF THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY. WE CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE" THE SERVICE MANAGER DENIED THEY HAD ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM ANYONE CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. THAT'S WHEN I STARTED SEARCHING THE WEB. AFTER COLLECTING COMPLAINTS FROM SEVERAL WEB SITES SUCH AS THIS, I CONFRONTED THE SERVICE MANAGER. HE STATED HE WAS UNAWARE OF THE COMPLAINTS AND GAVE ME THE 1-800-# FOR TOYOTA. WE HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND GOT A CASE #. THEY CLAIM THERE ARE TWO TSB'S ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROBLEM. MY QUESTION IS "WHY DOESN'T THE DEALER ALREADY HAVE THE TSB'S" MY WIFE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER AND HAS COMPLAINED OF TWO NEAR MISSES CAUSED FROM THIS PROBLEM. WE WILL GIVE TOYOTA THIS OPPORTUNITY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM,BUT I AM NOT GETTING A WARM AND FUZZY FEELING CONCERNING A FIX. NEXT STEP IS TO GET RID OF THE DANGEROUS VEHICLE. *NM
TRAVELING DOWN HILL AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH JUST SLIGHTLY PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL VEHICLE WILL DOWN SHIFT AND JURK STEERING WHEEL. IF CONDITIONS WHERE RIGHT I MAY LOOSE CONTROL. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. SPOKE TO SEVERAL DEALERS AND THEY SAY IT IS NORMAL.
WHEN THE OVERDRIVE IS ACTIVATED, THE RPM'S SPIKE BETWEEN THREE AND SIX THOUSAND RPM'S. THIS HAPPENS DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. IT STARTED AROUND THE BEGINNING OF APRIL, FIVE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. MY CONCERN WITH THIS PROBLEM IS THAT IT MAY SPIKE AT AN INOPPORTUNE TIME CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WHEN THE RPM'S SPIKE I LOSE ACCELORATOR CONTROL. THE VEHICLE MILAGE IS 14697.
I BOUGHT A 2005 CAMRY XLE LAST MONTH. THE TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY FAULTY AND THERE IS NO RESPONSE FROM THE COMPANY. THE ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED TRANSMISSION (ECT) IS SLOW TO RESPOND. THERE IS A DELAY WHEN YOU PRESS THE GAS SO YOU NEVEN KNOW WHEN THE CAR WILL ACTUALLY KICK INTO GEAR. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM EXCEPT WHEN YOU ENTER A HIGHWAY OR TRY AVOID A CRASH.
WHILE DRIVING FIRST 100 MILES THE TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING ERATICALLY, UPSHIFT AND DOWNSHIFTS NOT CHANGING SMOOTHLY. *AK
