ENGINE IS CONSUMING TO QUICKLY THE OIL
ENGINE IS VERY NOISEY ON START UP AND THEREAFTER RUNNING. *TR
AT LEAST 2 QUARTS OF OIL IS MISSING AT EACH OIL CHANGE. MOBILE 0W20 WITH NEW FILTER WAS USED AT EACH 6000 MILES INTERVAL. NO OTHER OIL WAS INTRODUCED TO THE ENGINE AND AT LEAST JUST ONE DELAY AT 7000 MILES INSTEAD OF 6000 MILES (1000 MILES OVER).
WE BROUGHT THIS CAR FROM ROSNER TOYOTA IN FREDERICKSBURG VA I QUESTION THE ENGINE NOISE FROM START UP AND IT CONTINUES NOW EXTREME ENGINE NOISE FROM START UP WHILE RUNNING UNTIL SHUT DOWN SOUNDS LIKE A BENT PUSH ROD OR COLLAPSED LIFTER OR BOTH IT MAKES A LARGE AMOUNT OF NOISE ON START UP SLOWS DOWN AS IT WARMS UP BUT IT IS STILL THERE ALWAYS.I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THEY ALL MAKE THAT NOISE THAT YEAR I'VE LISTEN TO OTHER TOYOTAS FROM THAT YEAR GUESS WHAT NO NOISE EVER FROM THE ONES I LISTEN TO SURPRISE I GOT LIED TO AGAIN.WHAT A JOKE THIS HAS BECOME.
A KNOCK OR RATTLE NOISE, COMING FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT, IS HEARD DURING A COLD STARTUP, SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR EVERY OIL CHANGE WHEN IT IS DUE, AND NO DIFFERENT. IT HAS BEEN THIS WAY EVER SINCE I BOUGHT IT. *TR
I WENT TO GET A OIL CHANGE ON OCTOBER 28, 2014, I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A FLUID LEAK(TRANSMISSION OR OIL) ANYWAY THE DEALERSHIP HERE IN GREENVILLE, MS. ALSO TOLD PERFORM DIAGNOSIS LOWER FRONT SUB-FRAME ASSY. W/TRANAXLE PLUS ENGINE-SEPARATE ENGINE FROM TRANS. PLUS REPLACE REAR CRANK SEAL PLUS REPLACE BOTH DRIVE AXLE SEALS-REASSEMBLE PLUS REINSTALL PLUS TOP TRANS FLUIDS, PERFORM TOP ENGINE DE-CARB THIS IS WHAT I WAS TOLD SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THESE PROBLEM JUST PURCHASE CAR IN FEB 2013. *TR
WOULD LIKE TO BE PUT ON RECORD THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAM GEAR ON THIS MODEL. VEHICLE WAS WORKED ON ONCE TO REPAIR COLD START NOISE (APROX. 10 SECONDS). FIX LASTED ABOUT A MONTH AND NOISE HAS RETURNED. SOUNDS LIKE NO OIL/LUBRICATION IS GETTING TO CAM GEAR AREA. CONCERNED THAT ENGINE MAY BECOME DAMAGED BECAUSE OF THIS. *TR
ON 9/24/2013, I WAS AT MY WAY SISTER HOME COME FROM WORK, ABOUT TO DRIVE OFF, WHEN THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER IT SOUND IT WAS FLOOD IT SO I LET IT SIT FOR A WHILE AND IT STILL WILL NOT START SO I CALL THE TOW TRUCK TO COME AND GET AND TAKE IT TO THE SHOP TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON THAT MORNING BUT IT START UP FINE, BUT TO MY SURPRISE IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. LEFT IT AT THE SHOP AND THEY CALL ME THE NEXT MORNING AND SAID THEY CHECK THE SENOR AS THE COMPUTER CODE TOLD THEM TO BUT IT WASN'T THE SENSOR. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION THEY TOOK APART THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEELS TO SHOW ME THAT THE CRANKSHAFT FLY WHEEL INSIDE THE ENGINE WAS MESSED UP AND THE SENSOR WASN'T DETECTING IT ANY MORE. I HAVE 81000 MILES ON THIS 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY. AFTER TAKING THE WHEEL OFF, SPEAKING TO A MECHANIC WHO WAS WORKING ON MY VEHICLE. ASK THE MECHANIC IF THIS WAS JUST A FLUKE DEAL OR IF THE DEALERSHIP HAD SEEN MANY BROKEN CRANKSHAFT ON TOYOTA'S. A FEW DAYS LATER THE SERVICE PERSONNEL TOLD ME HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPEN. HOW MANY PEOPLE WHO OWN TOYOTA'S HAVE HAD TO REPORT A BROKEN CRANKSHAFT? IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE TOYOTA SHOULD KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PART. IS THIS GOING TO BE ANOTHER BIT OF INFORMATION THAT GETS KEPT FROM CONSUMERS? TOYOTA SHOULD BE LOOKING INTO THIS TO SEE IF THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE CRANKSHAFT USED ON THEIR VEHICLES. *TR
SEPT.16, 2013,THE CAR MADE A LOUD NOISE AND I PULLED THE CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TURNED THE CAR OFF TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE, I FOUND NOTHING WRONG, I CONTACTED A WRECKER AND THE CLOSEST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE CAR DELIVERED FOR REPAIRS. SEPT. 17,I CALLED THEM TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY FOUND OUT ABOUT MY CAR; I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THERE IS A HOLE IN YOUR BLOCK.I ASKED HOW COULD A CAR WITH ONLY 56K MI. THROW A ROD. HE SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW YET AND WOULD GET BACK WITH ME. SEPT.19, I PROVIDED THE DEALERSHIP WITH ALL OF MY SERVICE RECORDS.THEY CONTACTED TOYOTA AND CALLED ON SEPT. 20 THEY WERE GOING TO REMOVE THE ENGINE TO LOOK FOR THE FAILURE. THEY STATED ONE OF TWO THINGS WERE THE CAUSE; THE CAR WAS DRIVEN INTO A DEEP-WATER PUDDLE ALLOWING WATER INTRUSION INTO THE ENGINE OR A COMPONENT FAILURE. I STATED IT WASN'T EVEN RAINING HE DAY OF THE INCIDENT, HIS REPLY WAS THEN YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. SEPT.23 THEY CALLED TO INFORM ME THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED, PHOTOS WERE TAKEN AND SENT TO TOYOTA FOR REVIEW. TOYOTA'S STANCE WAS THEY WERE NOT GOING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY. TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT AT SOMETIME I ALLOWED THE OIL LEVEL TO GET LOW, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT AND WHICH LEAD TO THIS FAILURE. I STATED THAT WAS UTTERLY FALSE, I ROUTINELY CHECK THE OIL LEVEL IN THAT CAR, IT NEVER REQUIRES TOP OFF OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. HE APOLOGIZED AND SAID THAT IS WHAT TOYOTA IS SAYING. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND TOYOTA HAS EXPERIENCED SIMILAR ENGINE FAILURES AND THEY TEND TO PUSH BACK HONORING WARRANTY CLAIMS. IT IS SUSPICIOUS THEY DID NOT REMOVE THE VALVE COVERS TO CHECK FOR PROBABLE CAUSES IN THE HEAD AREA SINCE THAT HAS BEEN THE CAUSE OF THESE TYPE ENGINE FAILURES. AT THIS POINT, I HAVE BEEN ADVISED TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA; COMPLAINTS WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS ANDTHE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP HAVE ALSO BEEN FILED. *TR
NOTIFIED DEALER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS USING EXCESSIVE OIL. DEALER RAN ON OIL CONSUMPTION CHECK AND DURING FIRST OIL CONSUMPTION TEST DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD USED 1 QT OF OIL WITHIN 1000 MILES. DEALER RAN SECOND OIL CONSUMPTION CHECK AND DETERMINED WITHIN 1000 MILES THE VEHICLE HAS USED 1.2 QTS OF OIL. THE THIRD CHECK PRODUCED 0.5 QTS OF OIL LOST WITHIN 4212 MILES. DEALER FELT THAT THIS AMOUNT OF OIL LOSS WAS ACCEPTABLE. *TR
AIR CONDITION COMPRESSOR FAILED. AND NOT PUMPING. NEED NEW OR REBUILD PARTS ONLY 2 YEAR OLD CAR HAD ONLY 38,000 MILES ON IT. MISSED WARRANTY BY 2,000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO A COMPLETE STOP WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE TO STALL ONCE ALL THE OIL HAD BEEN BURNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACT AND ALSO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL BASED ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
PURCHASED A NEW 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY. AFTER ~ 300 MILES THE ENGINE HAD A NEW NOISE ON START UP. IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A PROBLEM WITH THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY. AFTER PICKING UP THE CAR IT HAS BEEN DRAINING OIL AND IS NOW NOT DRIVABLE. *TR
I CALLED LOWE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP PRIOR TO SERVICE DATE 3/6/2010 TO REPORT DELAY IN GAS PEDAL, THAT IS WHEN ACCELERATOR FROM A STOP DELAY, THE IS A DELAY AND WHEN TURNING ON A/C IT TAKES ALMOST 1MIN. BEFORE PRESSURE BUILDS FOR COOLING AND I THOUGHT THIS WAS NOT NORMAL FOR A NEW VEHICLE WITH ONLY 40 MILES. ALSO AT SERVICE DATE 3/6/2010 DAMAGE TO FRONT SPOILER WAS NOT ADDRESSED AND WARRANTY BY DEALERSHIP WAS DENIED. *TR
2010 TOYOTA CAMRY EXPERIENCED ACCELERATION ON FREEWAY EXIT RAMP AT 7:30 AM DURING RUSH HOUR. PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE RACED. CAR WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE WITH ENGINE STILL RACING. THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF AND IT STOPPED RUNNING. CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS AN OBSTRUCTION WITH A FLOOR MAT - THERE WAS NONE. AFTER 30 SECONDS, STARTED THE CAR AND IT ALTERNATED BETWEEN IDLE AND ENGINE RACING WHILE DOING NOTHING TO THE GAS PEDAL. RECALL FIXES HAD NOT BEEN DONE YET. DEALERS RESPONSE WAS THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT AND DIDN'T CARE WHAT DID - JUST PUT IN THE RECALL REMEDIES AND TRIED TO GIVE IT BACK TO US TO "TRY THIS". WE HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THAT THE PROBLEM WAS UNDERSTOOD, OR FIXED OR THAT THE DEALER EVEN CARES. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT IT IS TOYOTA'S PROBLEM NOT THEIRS.
RUNAWAY LATE CAMRY, LEXUS: TURNING THE IGNITION KEY TO THE ACC (ACCESSORY) POSITION TURNS OFF THE IGNITION WHILE LEAVING THE STEERING WHEEL UNLOCKED. THIS INFORMATION COULD SAVE LIVES. *TR
