The contact stated that the melted dashboard felt sticky and slimy. The melted dashboard impaired the contact's vision while driving. In addition, the contact stated that fumes from the melted dashboard material were hazardous when inhaled. The dealer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 36,600.

The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle out of the garage and driving the vehicle, the contact later noticed that the dashboard was melting and was sticky, causing a reflection on the windshield and a glare. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the dashboard needed to be replaced. The mechanic related the failure to Toyota Campaign Number: ZE6. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the same assessment was made. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the campaign had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

Dear Representative. I am submitting a complaint as per Request #605168 Replacement of stick dashboard by Toyota. I have 2010 Toyota Camry and I am the original owner. I have sticky dashboard problem since 2012/2013 and so recently I was just looking around to replace it as now bugs and other things started sticking on it. During my search I found that Toyota has this as recall in 2015/2017 and so I reached out to them for replacement. They rejected my request stating that they had sent me 2 letters notifying about the replacement and I had not responded. I responded back to Toyota confirming that I have not received any letters from Toyota in regards to dashboard. If I had received letters, why would not I replace it. I would like to request NHTSA to investigate the issue further as I asked Toyota if they had any proof to show that I have received the letter and they did not respond to it. Thank you.

DASHBOARD IS MELTING CAUSING SEVERE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD WHICH IS OBSCURING MY VISION AND CREATING A HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITION TO VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS. THE DASHBOARD IS SHINNY, MELTY AND VERY REFLECTIVE. IT'S BECOMING A HAZARD TO DRIVE THE CAR AS THE DASHBOARD IS REFLECTED ON THE WINDOW. TOYOTA'S DASHBOARDS SHOULD NOT MELT BECAUSE OF TIME.
DASHBOARD BECAME STICKY AND HAS STARTED TO PEEL OFF.
WHILE CHECKING OIL HOOD SUDDENLY CLOSED HOOD SUPPORTS FAILED. NO WARNING IT JUST SLAMMED SHUT. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE AT THE TIME 0800. IT CAUGHT MY LEFT ARM AND HAND REQUIRING SIX STICHES PLUS OTHER CUTS AND BRUISES.

I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY ( HOUSTON TX) , SUDDENLY I HEARD A SOUND LIKE A EXPLOSION AT MY CAR CEILING. I PANICKED AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR , LUCKILY THERE WEREN'T ANY CAR NEAR ME ( FRONT BACK, RIGHT OR LEFT). FOUND OUT MY SUNROOF EXPLODED. THE REASON I AM CONFIDENT THAT THERE WASN'T ANY PIECE THAT FLEW OFF AND HIT MY CAR IS BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAD ANY CAR NEAR ME NOR I WAS DRIVING IN ANY SIDE LANES. I WAS IN MIDDLE LANE. I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF A SUNROOF EXPLODED LIKE THAT WITHOUT BEING HIT WITH ANYTHING.
DASHBOARD MELTED IN SUN AND CREATED A STRONG GLARE WHICH IS EFFECTING VISIBILITY AND CREATED A STICKY MESS WHICH COLLECTS DIRT AND BUGS.

ON APRIL 19, 2014 I PURCHASED THE ABOVE REFERENCED VEHICLE, A 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY SE FROM PRINCE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN TIFTON, GEORGIA. THIS VEHICLE WAS FOUR YEARS OLD AND HAD LESS THAN 10,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF MY PURCHASE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT WAS IN IMMACULATE CONDITION FROM ITS PREVIOUS ONE OWNER. HOWEVER, WHEN I RETURNED HOME TO ROME, GEORGIA ON APRIL 20TH, 2014 I NOTICED A TYPE OF ?STICKINESS? TO THE DASH BOARD AREA. I DROVE MY VEHICLE TO WORK AND ON THAT TUESDAY, APRIL 22ND, MY SUPERVISOR, CHIEF PROBATION OFFICER [XXX] WANTED TO LOOK AT MY NEW CAR. I SHOWED HIM MY VEHICLE AND ALSO POINTED OUT THE STICKINESS ON THE DASH BOARD. BOTH HE AND I ASSUMED THAT SOMEONE SPILLED SOMETHING ON IT. THE STICKINESS WAS LOCATED ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. ON APRIL 27TH, 2014 I DROVE MY VEHICLE ON A TRIP TO SOUTH FLORIDA TO SEE MY SISTER GRADUATE COLLEGE. WHEN I RETURNED, ON MAY 5TH I TOOK MY CAR TO HAVE IT WASHED AND CLEAN THE INSIDE. WHILE WIPING OFF THE DASHBOARD I NOTICED THE STICKINESS AGAIN AND MY FINGERNAIL SWIPED ACROSS THE DASH AND LEFT A GASH IN THE DASHBOARD. I DO NOT HAVE LONG NAILS. I THEN BEGAN TO FEEL AROUND ON THE DASHBOARD AND NOTICED THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD WAS SOFT AND COULD BE EASILY DESTROYED. I THEN KNEW THAT THIS WAS NOT SOMETHING SOMEONE HAD SPILLED ON THE DASH AND REALIZED THIS IS A DEFECTIVE DASH BOARD. I BEGAN TO RESEARCH IT AND FOUND ARTICLE AFTER ARTICLE ONLINE WHERE OTHER PEOPLE WERE REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT HAS BEEN NAMED A ?MELTING DASHBOARD?. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN OTHER AUTO DEALER'S VEHICLES AS WELL AS TOYOTA'S. I HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT OTHER DEALERS HAVE REPLACED THE DASH BOARDS AND HAVE CALLED THEM DEFECTIVE. *TR

PROBLEM WITH DASHBOARD STICKY/MELTING/RESIDUE. NEVER USED CLEANING AGENTS ON IT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER, WITH LESS THAN 32,000 MILES. CREATES A TERRIBLE GLARE ON WINDSHIELD, MAKING DRIVING DANGEROUS. DEALER IS ONLY ONE WHO HAS EVER SERVICED MY VEHICLE..THEY STATE THEY KNOW NOTHING OF THIS PROBLEM..THEIR BODY SHOP ALSO IS OBLIVIOUS TO PROBLEM (THEY TRIED AN INDUSTRIAL CLEANER TO TRY TO WIPE IT OFF. NOW I FIND THAT I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS PROBLEM...THE INTERNET FORUM IS "REPLETE" WITH CAR OWNERS OF DIFFERENT MAKES/MODELS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM WHETHER THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION HAS BEEN GARAGED OR NOT. PLEASE HELP...ON A "FIXED" INCOME, CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THIS DASHBOARD AND MY VEHICLE IS IN "PRISTINE" CONDITION WITH LOW MILEAGE/EXCELLENT CARE. THIS PROBLEM MORE THAN WARRANTS A "RECALL" AS SO MANY (MYRIAD) CAR OWNERS ARE NOW COMING FORWARD WITH THIS COMPLAINT.
