I TURNED ON MY CAR AND IT BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ITSELF, THE INDICATOR STOPPED AND HELD ON 4,000 RPM. *TR
ON A TRIP TO SOUTH CAROLINA FROM NEW JERSEY INTERSTATE DRIVING I EXPERIENCED AN ISSUE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL. ISSUE IS : WHEN I COME UP ON SLOWER TRAFFIC AND HIT THE BRAKE THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES AS IT SHOULD BUT WHEN I LET UP OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES RAPIDLY ON IT'S ON WITHOUT HITTING THE RESUME LEVER. THINKING QUICK I TURNED THE CRUISE OFF. THIS HAPPENED 6 TIMES ON THE ROUND TRIP I FINALLY QUIT USING THE CRUISE. THE TOYOTA DEALER SAID THERE IS NO RECALL OR ANYTHING FOR THIS ISSUE. I'M TELLING YOU THIS IS UNSAFE AS HELL! I HAVE AN EXTENSIVE MECHANICAL BACKGROUND, I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYBODY SAYS! I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER SAW IT HAPPEN TO. *TR
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT LESS THAN 5MPH WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. INSTEAD OF STOPPING, THE CAR ACCELERATED SUDDENLY, AND RAN INTO THE WALL 3 FEET IN FRONT OF THE PARKING SPACE. THE CAR WAS TOWED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND DETERMINED TO BE TOTALED. THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE CAR BUT DID NOT COME UP WITH A DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY DID NOT BELIEVE IT WAS A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS REVERSING FROM A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. THE BRAKES WERE RELEASED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A FENCE, TWO TREES AND A SIGN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND WAS NOT INSPECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,000.

THE VEHICLE TRAVELED OVER THE CURVE AND THROUGH A FENCE BEFORE CRASHING INTO A TREE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND WAS NOT INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 37,000.
I MET WITH AN ACCIDENT RECENTLY OWING TO UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION OF VEHICLE. BEFORE THIS ACCIDENT I WITNESSED THIS PROBLEM IN THE PAST AND I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALER THEY TOOK SOME TIME AND SAID THAT THEY COMPLETED THE RECALL PROCEDURE BUT THE CHECK ENGINE SIGN WAS STILL ILLUMINATED AS BEFORE. AND I STILL EXPERIENCED UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE DEALER THAT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 30,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP ACCELERATING UNTIL IT CRASHED INTO A WALL AT THE CONTACTS HOME. WHEN THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE IT ACCELERATED A SECOND TIME AND CRASHED INTO THE A NEIGHBORS HOME. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO COLLISION SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,500.

A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO HER RESIDENCE BEFORE BEING TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE BODY DAMAGE BY AN INSURANCE AGENCY. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN INVESTIGATOR TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE BUT WAS ALSO UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 23,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKES FROM 5 MPH, THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE UNTIL THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THERE COULD BE A LINKAGE DEFECT IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR MAT AND HAS NOT HAD ANY FURTHER UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ISSUES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000. UPDATED 11/03/10. *LJ

CAR STARTED TO RACE, JUMPED OVER CEMENT BARRIER, ONTO ROAD, THEN ONTO A GRASSY AREA, ABLE TO STEER AWAY FROM PUBLIC BENCH, TREE, UNDER CARRIAGE CAUGHT BOTTOM OF LIGHT POLE, TIRE WENT FLAT, CAR SLOWED DOWN AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BACK TO PARKING AREA. APPROX $1800. DAMAGES TO BUMPER, RIGHT FRONT FENDER, TIRE REPLACED. TOYOTA HAS NOT SEEN CAR YET. *TR
HIGH ACCELERATION OF MOTOR. THROTTLE IS NOT RUNNING AS IT SHOULD. CONTINUES TO RUN BETWEEN TWO TO ONE & HALF RPMS CONSTANTLY. TOOK TO DEALER LAST YEAR RE PROBLEM WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF CARPET WAS UNDER PEDAL. THIS WAS TRUE AS MY CARPET HAS FASTENERS WHICH HOLD CARPET IN PLACE. HAVING READ AND REVIEWED TOYOTA SITE, IT CONFIRMED THAT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE THROTTLE. DEALER STATES NOT PART OF RECALL. ADVISE TO CONTACT TOYOTA. UNABLE TO CONTACT BY PHONE. 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE PUT HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PUT THE GEAR IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AS IT LUNGED BACKWARDS AND HER HEAD AND PASSENGERS HEAD JERKED BACKWARDS. CONSEQUENTLY, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO AN AUTO STOPPER. THE CONSUMER THEN PUT THE GEAR IN DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AGAIN LUNGING FORWARD AND THEN CRASHED INTO A LAWN TREE. THE PASSENGER SUFFERED A CONCUSSION AND SEAT BELT BURNS ACROSS HER CHEST AND THE CONSUMER SUFFERED FROM SEAT BELT BURNS AS WELL ACROSS HER CHEST. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE DRIVER STATED THAT 2 YEARS AGO IN DECEMBER 2008 SHE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 70 MPH WHEN A VEHICLE CHANGED LANES IN FRONT OF HER WHICH FORCED HER TO APPLY EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND HER ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. THE CONTACT WAS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE WALL WHEN THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL. THE RPMS HAVE ALSO INCREASED RAPIDLY WHILE THE CONTACT WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN SHE ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

THE CONTACT WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. LATER ON, WHEN THE CONTACT BACKED INTO HER DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED IN REVERSE TO AN ESTIMATED 25 MPH. THE VEHICLE CRASHED THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR AND THE WALL ADJOINING GARAGE TO THE HOUSE. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEMS. MY CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING CORRECTLY. THE CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY, IT TOOK TIME TO ACCELERATE AND THEN IT WOULD BUCK FORWARD. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SEVERAL DAYS LATER. I CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE FUEL CAP WAS ON CORRECTLY AND COULD FIND NO OTHER REASON THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR MY CAR'S ENGINE COMPUTER AND IT WAS REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE I FEEL LIKE THE TIRES STICK LIKE THE CAR IS HAVING TROUBLE ACCELERATING, BUT SO FAR THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS GONE BACK ON. I WILL CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD THE PROBLEM GET WORSE. *TR
