ONE DAY I WAS RETURNING FROM WORK IT WAS AROUND 3:30PM WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY RADIO DISPLAY TURND BLACK ON ME, "IF ONLY JUST 5ECONDS" THEN IT CAME YU !BACK ON BUT NOW AT NIGHT WHENEVER I TURN MY LIGHTS MMM ON THE RADIO DESPLAY TURNS DARK ALMOST. AND THE BACKUP CAMERA IS ALSO VERY DARK WHEN MY LIGHTS ARE ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V285000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. CLOCK RANDOMLY WORKS. SEEMS TO BE IN ALL TOYOTA MATRIX IN THE MID 2000S. BUT OF COURSE TOYOTA WANTS A HUGE PRICE FOR A REPLACEMENT FOR THEIR FAULTY SOLDERING JOB. *TR
THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THE COMPUTER ECU UNIT FAILED. MY DAUGHTER DROVE THE CAR TO PERFORMANCE COLLISION FOR SOME BODY WORK REPAIRS. THE BODY SHOP CALLED TO INFORM US THAT THEY COULDN'T COMPLETE THE REPAIRS BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I CALLED AAA WHO TOWED THE CAR TO PERFORMANCE TOYOTA. AFTER THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE THE TECHNICIAN MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE ECU UNIT FAILED AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAD TO PAY $725.74 AND PERFORMANCE TOYOTA AGAIN REPLACED THE ECU UNIT. TOYOTA REPLACED THE INITIAL ECU ON AUGUST 25, 2008 ( I FILED A SEPARATE COMPLAINT) UNDER WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED TO TOYOTA THAT A COMPUTER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT ALL AND OUT OF ALL THE 7 CARS I'VE OWNED OVER THE PASS 40 YEARS THIS IS THE FIRST CAR THAT EVER HAD SO MANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. TOYOTA CLAIMED THAT THE ECU COMPUTERS DON'T LAST VERY LONG AND NEED TO BE REPLACED ABOUT EVERY 4 YEARS. I DON'T BELIEVE THESE ECU ARE QUALITY UNITS AND ARE DEFECTIVE. I'M HOPING TO GET MY MONEY REFUNDED. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THE WIRING WAS BURNED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT, AND TO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DID NOT REPORT TO THE SCENE AND THE FIRE WENT OUT ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND SEAT. THE WIRING IN THE DOOR WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE EXACT REPAIR HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE TOYOTA 2006 COROLLA WHEN THE WINDOWS STOP WORKING, THEN THE LIGHTS BEGIN STOP WORKING SO SHE PARKED THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD NOT START UP AGAIN SO SHE WAS ABLE TO GET SOMEONE WITH JUMPER CABLES TO START THE CAR. SHE CONTACTED PERFORMANCE TOYOTA WHO INSTRUCTED HER TO BRING THE CAR TO TOYOTA. THEY INFORMED US THAT THE CAR COMPUTER'S ECU UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THEY REPLACED THE ECU WITH NO CHARGE SINCE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THEY CHARGED ME $257.99 FOR A WIRE THAT HAD SHORTENED BEHIND THE DASH CAUSING THE FUSES TO BLOW. I BELIEVE THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE COMPUTER FAILURE BUT THEY DISAGREED. THEN ON JUNE 20, 2012 WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED BY PERFORMANCE COLLISION BODY SHOP THEY CONTACTED ME TO INFORM ME THAT THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I TOWED IT TO PERFORMANCE TOYOTA AND THEY INFORM ME THAT THE ECU COMPUTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WILL SUBMIT A NEW COMPLAINT FOR THIS INCIDENT. *JS
I WAS DRIVING IN AFTERNOON COMMUTER TRAFFIC IN WASHINGTON, DC, WHEN, WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, MY CAR "HICCUPED" ONCE AND DIED. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT, BUT AS I DROVE THROUGH THE GREEN LIGHT, MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER, SLOW DOWN, THEN STALLED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR, BUT IT WOULDN'T GO OVER 25 MPH, THEN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY SLOWED AND STALLED OUT AGAIN. AFTER THAT, IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 10 TRIES TO GET THE ENGINE TO TURN OVER AND THE CAR TO START ONLY LONG ENOUGH TO MOVE IT 50 FEET OR SO TO A SAFER AREA. THE PROBLEM, ACCORDING TO TOYOTA, IS A FAULTY COMPUTER (ECM) THAT THE COMPANY WAS AWARE OF BUT DID NOT DIRECTLY NOTIFY OWNERS OF. (BASED ON WHAT THE TOYOTA REPAIR PERSON SAID, THIS PROBLEM MIRRORS WHAT IS REPORTED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE09054 AND TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TC015-07 - HARD SHIFT AND STALLING). *TR
ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE FAILED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES IN THE GARAGE.. I WAS ABLE TO REPEAT THIS. TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE ECM (OR COMPUTER). *TR
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA S. IT HAS APPROX. 115,000 MILES. THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING 70MILES/HR. HE PULLED OVER WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND THE CAR STARTED UP AGAIN. THE CAR CONTINUES TO STALL WHEN THE RPMS GO OVER 1000. THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED WAS THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT. STILL WAITING FOR CAR TO BE REPAIRED. *TR
MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AS I WAS DRIVING ON A DARK COUNTRY ROAD. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN. THE ONLY THING THAT WAS WORKING WAS THE BATTERY. I WAS UNABLE TO START THE CAR. I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. I PURCHASED MY CAR IN AUGUST OF 2006 AND THE COMPUTER COMPLETELY FAILED ON JANUARY 09, 2008. THE CAR ONLY HAD 20,434 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE COMPUTER FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE COMPUTER. *TR
APRIL 2010 - TACHOMETER STARTED 'JUMPING' AROUND. CEL WOULD ILLUMINATE ON AND OFF AND THE CAR WOULD OCCASIONALLY ACT LIKE IT WANTED TO STALL AND ACTED SLUGGISH. JUNE 2010 - BROUGHT TO LOCAL SHOP THAT SAID IT MIGHT BE A COMPUTER ISSUE AND TO TAKE TO TOYOTA. TOOK TO TOYOTA, TOYOTA SAID THAT IT WAS JUST A BAD TACHOMETER AND THAT I COULD CHOOSE TO REPLACE IT. I DID NOT. CEL LIGHT CONTINUED TO GO ON AND OFF. VEHICLE WOULD SOMETIMES SHIFT VERY HARD OR SEEM TO HAVE TROUBLE. SEPTEMBER 2010 - THE VEHICLE ALMOST STALLED AT 45MPH WHEN IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO SWITCH GEARS (AUTO TRANSMISSION). WHEN GOING HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE RPMS WOULD NOT GET OVER 1800 WHEN NORMALLY IT RUNS AROUND 2300 (AT 65MPH) WHEN I WOULD STEP ON BRAKE, RPMS WOULD DROP TO AROUND 1000 AND THEN TO THE POINT OF STALLING. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH THE LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE RIGHT FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR TO NOT HAVE IT STALL IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. SOMETIMES AT A LIGHT, I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND CONTINUE TO REV THE ENGINE. SOME DAYS THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE RUNNING FINE, OTHER TIMES IT IS VERY STRESSFUL TO DRIVE WHEN IT IS HAVING ISSUES. OCTOBER 2010 - RECEIVED RECALL LETTER FROM TOYOTA REGARDING THE ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE) AND THAT PARTS WILL START TO BE COME AVAILABLE THE END OF NOVEMBER. CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT CURRENTLY HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. *TR
ONE SATURDAY AFTERNOON, MY 2006 COROLLA WITH ONLY 32K MILEAGE ON IT JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY (I-880 SOUTH BOUND) IN OAKLAND, CA JUST AFTER THE OAK EXIT. TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, THE AREA WHERE IT STOPPED HAS NO SHOULDER. THE CHP PUSHED THE CAR TO THE NEARBY OFF RAMP AND I HAD IT TOWED TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN HAYWARD. THE SERVICE ATTENDANT TOLD ME MY CAR HAD A COMPUTER PROBLEM WHICH HAPPENED IN 2005 AND 2006 MODELS OF COROLLA. THEY DID SOME FIXES ON IT. WHEN I WAS PICKING IT UP, SETTLED THEIR EXORBITANT FEES AND WAIT ON THE SIDE FOR THE CAR, IT TOOK ME OVER 20 MINUTES TO WAIT. IT TURNED OUT THE CAR BROKE AGAIN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND TOLD ME TO WAIT ANOTHER 15 MINUTES SO THEY CAN FIX SOMETHING IN THE COMPUTER OF THE CAR. MY CONCERN IS, IF THEY KNEW THERE WERE SOME ISSUES WITH THEIR 2005 OR 2006 COROLLAS, THEY SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED THE CUSTOMERS TO PREVENT DANGEROUS THINGS TO HAPPEN. AND WHY WOULD THE CAR WITH ONLY 32K MILES ON IT SUDDENLY STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY? IT WOULD BE A DIFFERENT STORY IF THE MILEAGE IS OVER 100K. *TR
TOYOTA COROLLA 2006 MODEL WITH ENGINE LIGHT ON AFTER DRIVING 5 MILES. CAR WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULT OF P2716 BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. LIGHT DISAPPEARED FOR ABOUT TWELVE HOURS THAN REAPPEARED AND WAS CONSTANT FROM THAT TIME ON. THE CAR SEEMED TO HAVE HARD SHIFTING WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY BETWEEN 10- 30 MPH. *TR
THIS HAPPENED FOR ME IN 2007 BUT DUE TO THIS RECENT EVENTS, I DECIDED TO REPORT IT. I WAS DRIVING MY TOYOTA COROLLA 2006 WHICH WAS A YEAR OLD, AND THE ENGINE DIED ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS LUCKY THAT I COULD PULL OVER AND I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND LATER I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT CIRCUIT HAD A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND WAS REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE OTHER CARS WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING BUT I DID NOT NOTICE ANY ISSUES. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE CAR STARTED SHIFTING HARD WHEN I ACCELERATED WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND THE CODE CAME BACK P2716: SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SLT/RANGE. I RESEARCHED THE CODE AND FOUND MANY FORUMS WITH PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AND THE PROBLEM BEING THE ECM. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND GAVE THEM THE INFORMATION I FOUND ON THE ISSUES. THEY DIAGNOSED THE CAR AND I SAID I NEEDED THE ECM REPLACED. THE CAR HAS 82,000 MILES AND IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE REPAIR IS RUNNING CLOSE TO $900, THE REGIONAL TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE HAS OFFERED TO SPLIT THE COST. I FEEL THIS IS UNFAIR AND A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED. I ALSO HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS A 2007 COROLLA THAT JUST TOOK HER CAR IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM GOING TO CONTINUE TO SPEAK WITH TOYOTA IN HOPES THEY WILL COVER THE REPAIR. *TR

THE DEALER MADE REPLACED THE COMPUTER HOWEVER THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS AN EMISSIONS ISSUE WITHIN THE VEHICLE AND NOT THE COMPUTER. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE INITIAL DEALER DID NOT INSTALL THE COMPUTER CORRECTLY. THE DEALER CORRECTED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,901
I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY IN MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA (MANUAL TRANSMISSION, 40,331 ON THE ODOMETER) WHEN I LOST ALL ACCELERATION. THE CAR'S ENGINE DID NOT STOP BUT THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP CAME ON AND SIMULTANEOUSLY I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER ACROSS THREE LANES TO THE SHOULDER; WHEN I FINALLY TRIED TO BRAKE, I HAD NO POWER AND HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKES TO THE FLOOR; WHEN I DID THIS THE CAR SHUDDERED. THE TOYOTA DEALER REPAIRED THIS BY REPLACING THE ECU (ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT/COMPUTER), CODE 0607 AT NO CHARGE TO ME. THE PART IS INCLUDED IN THE 8YEAR/80,000 MILE FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY. ACCORDING TO WHAT I'VE READ ABOUT THIS ISSUE, GLEANED FROM THE NHTSA DATABASE, MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM BUT TOYOTA HAS NOT RECALLED THIS DEFECTIVE PART. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND I URGE TOYOTA TO RECONSIDER ITS POSITION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 COROLLA ON VACATION THE MOTOR STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. LUCKILY WE WERE IN A PARKING LOT AND AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO THE ENGINE RESTARTED BUT JUST WENT A FEW YARDS AND STALLED AGAIN. AFTER CHECKING THE FLUIDS (ALL OK) I WAITED ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND ONCE AGAIN STARTED THE ENGINE, THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT ONE BLOCK BEFORE IT STALLED AGAIN IN TRAFFIC AND I HAD TO PUSH IT OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CALLED A TOWTRUCK AND HAD IT TAKEN TO A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER IN SIMI VALLEY, CA. AFTER LEAVING IT THERE OVERNIGHT, THEY CALLED AND SAID IT NEEDED A NEW ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE). THAT WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS SOME ROUTINE SERVICE WORK. THEY DID NOT CHARGE FOR THE ECM AS THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH THAT PROBLEM. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT RESULTS IN ALMOST COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES AND STEERING. *TR
2006 TOYOTA COROLLA- FOR THE THIRD TIME IN 3 WEEKS THE COMPUTER ECM HAS FAILED- EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF THE CAR STALLS IN MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY. TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT IT, HAS A TSB ON IT. *TR
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INFREQUENTLY WOULD COME ON AND OFF STARTING IN JUNE 2010, ALONG WITH THE CAR JERKING DURING ACCELERATION AT SPEEDS OF 10, 25 AND 35. 7/7/10 I TOOK MY COROLLA INTO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS OF THE PROBLEM, CODE P2716. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY ENGINE COMPUTER (ECM) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FOR SAFETY PURPOSES I HAD THE ECM REPLACED. THE NHTSA HAS OPENED A DEFECT INVESTIGATION INTO THE ISSUE. THE NUMBER IS #PE09054. *TR
06 COROLLA STALLED @ INTERSECTION W/ CHECK ENG LITE ON- WOULD NOT RESTART-ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED-HAD THE COMPUTER SCANNED BY A MECHANIC AND TOLD ME COMPUTER IS BAD-CAR STILL WON'T START. *TR
ON 24 JUNE 2010 I DROVE 1331 MILES BACK FROM VIRGINIA WITH NO ISSUES. THE NEXT EVENING, MY PERMITTED 15 YEAR OLD SON WAS DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA A MERE HALF MILE FROM OUR HOME WHEN MY CAR BEGAN TO SHUTTER AND LOSE POWER. THE ACCELERATOR WAS UNRESPONSIVE AND THEN THE CAR SHUT DOWN TAKING WITH IT ALL LIGHTS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CAR DID RESTART BUT INSTANTLY DIED LEAVING US ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT NIGHT WITH NO LIGHTS AND UNABLE TO MOVE. FORTUNATELY I WAS WITH HIM AND WE WERE NOT IN TRAFFIC, AS HE IS INEXPERIENCED AND WOULD NOT HAVE REACTED WELL IF THIS HAD HAPPENED TO HIM ON THE ROAD UNACCOMPANIED IN ANY TYPE OF TRAFFIC. WE PUSHED THE CAR HOME THE MILE AND PARKED IT FOR THE NIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING THE CAR STARTED, RAN FOR ONE MINUTE, BOGGED AND DIED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ILLUMINATED. I APPLIED A RENTED SCAN TOOL AND CAME BACK WITH A P0607 TROUBLE CODE WITH INDICATED A BAD ECU. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO TOYOTA AND WAS REPAIRED WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ECU FOR $993.40. I AM OVER THE EMISSION WARRANTY OF 80,000 MILES PER THEIR TSB WITH 94,000, SO THIS IS OUT OF MY POCKET. THIS IS FRUSTRATING AS THE INTERNET IS LITTERED WITH STORIES OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHERS. I AM GLAD THAT I MADE IT HOME BEFORE THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED AND IT APPEARS THAT TOYOTA HAS BEEN LUCKY AS WELL. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND OCCURS WITH NO WARNING. I JUST HOPE SOMEONE DOESN'T HAVE TO DIE AS A RESULT OF A WELL KNOWN BAD BATCH OF ECU'S, BEFORE THE PROBLEM IS FIXED BY A RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING 15 TO 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO LUNGE FORWARD AS IF THE CONTACT WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE COMPUTER WAS DEFECTIVE AND IT WAS REPLACED. WHEN THE FAILURE RECURRED, THE VEHICLE STALLED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THEY STATED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,000. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WITH MY 3YR OLD SON WHEN MY CARS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT POPPED ON AND THE CAR TURNED OFF AND IMMEDIATELY STARTED SLOWING DOWN. IT WAS NIGHT TIME AND AFTER A LARGE SNOW STORM SO I WAS UNABLE TO GET OFF THE SHOULDER FULLY. LUCKILY A POLICE OFFICER CAME AND SAID I WAS IN A VERY DANGEROUS POSITION AND THAT SHE WAS GOING TO SPEED UP THE PROCESS BY CALLING A TOW AGENCY HERSELF. SHE THEN CORNERED HER CAR WITH LIGHTS ON TO ADD SOME SAFETY. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY STATED NOTHING WAS PHYSICALLY WRONG WITH THE CAR BUT THE COMPUTER HAD DIED. I CALLED TOYOTA TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THAT THEY COULD DO AND THEY STATED THEY WERE AWARE THIS WAS A STANDARD PROBLEM BUT SINCE THE CAR WAS OVER 80,000 MILES THAT IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD BE FULL PRICE TO FIX. I STATED THAT I FELT WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR THEY NEEDED TO INFORM ME THAT AFTER 80,000 MILES MY CAR HAD THE POTENTIAL TO SHUT DOWN AT ANYTIME. I CAN ASSURE YOU I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT. I HAD TO ORDER A NEW PART WHICH IS STILL NOT GUARANTEED. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SCAM BY TOYOTA TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE STILL MAKING MONEY ON CARS EVEN WHEN YOU TAKE THE BEST OF CARE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER THREE TRIES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND THE DEALER ASKED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN BUT THE CONTACT DOES NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT IS DISABLED AND WAS UNABLE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
