TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA LE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL INTERMITTENTLY AFTER IT WAS STARTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOUR TIMES. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED HE STATED THAT THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED GEARS "LIKE A ROCKET". HE NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHIFTED WITH EXTREME RESISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND REPLACED THE ECM ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2009. HE REFERENCED RECALL 10V384000, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING AND WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,002.

THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ENGINE SOFTWARE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE SERVICE WARRANTY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 26,000.

A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALER WHICH LISTED CODE#P2716 PRESSURE CONTROL D MALFUNCTION, INTERNAL FAILURE INSIDE THE ECU. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING $2,100 FOR THE REPAIRS. THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS OR WARRANTIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,358.
IN AUGUST 2010, I LEARNED ABOUT COROLLA RECALL. THEREFORE I CALLED ELK GROVE TOYOTA(916-405-8000) TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT BUT WAS INFORMED TO WAIT UNTIL I RECEIVE A NOTICE FROM TOYOTA MOTORS USA. BECAUSE I DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER FROM TOYOTA, I HAVE EMAILED THEM ON OCTOBER 19, 2010 REQUESTING THE RECALL LETTER. TOYOTA MOTORS REPLIED STATING MY COROLLA ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED ON MARCH 13, 2008. I DO REMEMBER TOWING MY CAR TO ELK GROVE TOYOTA ON MARCH 13, 2008 BECAUSE THE ENGINE WILL NOT START. I WAS TOLD THE ENGINE NEEDED NEW PARTS AND BECAUSE OF WARRANTY THERE WILL BE NO COST TO ME. MY CONCERN IS: 1. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL ANNOUNCEMENT MADE BY THE MEDIA STATED THAT THIS DEFECT COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS MATTER BECAUSE THE VEHICLE COULD STOP WHILE DRIVING. I WAS LUCKY BECAUSE I WAS IN A PARKING LOT. 2. WHY DID TOYOTA TAKE SO LONG TO ANNOUNCE THIS ENGINE PROBLEM.?IF MY ENGINE PROBLEM WAS SIMILAR TO THIS RECALL, WHY DID THEY TAKE 2 YEARS AND 5 MONTHS TO ANNOUNCE THE RECALL? I KNOW TOYOTA HAS BEEN PENALIZED FOR THEIR SLOW DECISION TO RECALL THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM. BUT IT SEEMS THAT THEY CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEM MAKING RECALL DECISION TO ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY. TOYOTA HAS BECOME TOO BIG TOO FAST AS STATED IN THE MEDIA. I HOPE THEY WILL SERIOUSLY CONSIDER CONSUMER SAFETY RATHER THAN THEIR PROFIT BY BECOMING THE LARGEST AUTO MANUFACTURE IN THE WORLD.
2006 TOYOTA LE - A FEW MONTHS BACK WE HAD A STALL OUT THAT WE TOOK IN TO TOYOTA DEALER TRICOUNTY TOYOTA, LIMERICK, PA AND THEY SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY COMPUTER MODULE. NOW WE HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LITE ON THAT WE HAVE TO TAKE IN. WITH THE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS ASKED FOR THE BRAKE OVERRIDE SYSTEM WHICH THEY WOULD NOT PUT IN AS IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM THEY SAID IS THIS CAR ON THE RECALL LIST FOR THE FUEL PUMP AND BRAKE PROBLEMS? I DO NOT SEE IT LISTED ANYWHERE, AND EMAILED TO TOYOTA ABOUT THIS TONITE. *TR
2006 COROLLA STALLS WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. I LET THE CAR REST FOR ABOUT 30 MINS. AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN FOR ABOUT 20 MINS. AT WHICH TIME IT STALLED AGAIN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ISSUE TURNED OUT TO BE A BAD ECM. *TR
INTERMITTENTLY MY 2006 TOYOTA MATRIX XR SUDDENLY SLOWS DOWN TO ABOUT 20 MILES PER HOUR AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO PRESSING GAS PEDAL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I WILL HAVE TO PULL UP TO THE SIDE AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF FOR COUPLE OF MINUTES AND THEN START. THEN IT WOULD BE FINE. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AND LOCAL ROADS. IT COULD BE DANGEROUS IF IT HAPPENS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY. SO FAR IN THE SPAN OF LESS THAN A YEAR IT HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN FIVE TIMES. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER. THEY QUOTED "P2103: THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL MOTOR CIRCUIT HIGH" AND WILL COST $1085 TO FIX IT. I LOOKED UP THE WEB AND THERE WERE OTHERS WITH THE SAME ERROR CODE AND REPLACED IT BUT STILL EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM. AFTER SOME RESEARCH ON THE WEB I FOUND THAT THERE WAS SAME SYMPTOM PEOPLE EXPERIENCE BUT DIFFERENT ERROR CODE THAT WAS COVERED BY TOYOTA EVEN WHEN THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I WAS HOPING MY PROBLEM GETS COVERED, TOO BUT THEY INSIST NOT TO COVER IT. IF THIS PROBLEM IS A RESULT OF WEAR AND TEAR, I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH IT. BUT THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECTS IN THE VEHICLE THAT SHOULD BE FIXED REGARDLESS OF THE WARRANTY EXPIRED OR NOT. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA THAT STARTED EXHIBITING VIOLENT SHAKING WHILE DRIVING. SHORTLY AFTER THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL AUTOZONE FOR A DIAGNOSTICS SCAN AND IT RETURNED CODE "P2716 - PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID". I DISCOVERED THAT TOYOTA CURRENTLY HAS A TSB ON THIS ISSUE (TC015-07) BUT NOT AN OFFICIAL RECALL. EVEN THOUGH NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED IN THIS CASE, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS THE SHAKING SLOWED THE CAR DOWN AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT HAD IT HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTTING OF. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA CE IT STALLED AT AN INTERSECTION EFFECTING STEERING AND BRAKING AFTER IT STALLED IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET THE CAR TO START AND RUN. WHILE RETURNING HOME IT STALLED TWO MORE TIMES, WHILE I WAS DRIVING I ALSO NOTICE THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PASTED 20 MPH EVEN WHILE PUSHING THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN AND HARD SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE MAIN CONTROL MODULE AND THEY CALIBRATED IT PER THE WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE A COUPLE WEEKS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,410.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED BACK ON AND TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT STALLED FOUR TIMES. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE ECM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN STALLED AND THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72000.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY RESTART THE VEHICLE AS IT OPERATED AS NORMAL. THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING 70 MPH AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE COMPUTER ENGINE MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,296.
I HEARD ON THE RADIO THAT YOU HAVE HAD OVER 1,000 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2005-06 TOYOTA COROLLAS WITH REGARD TO ENGINE CONTROL MODULES (ECMS) AND POSSIBLE STALLS. MY 2006 COROLLA STARTED TO STUTTER WHEN I ACCELERATED FROM 45 TO 55 MPH. I COULD TELL THAT ONE OF THE SPARK PLUGS WAS MISFIRING AND I WAS AFRAID THE ENGINE WAS GOING TO STALL IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE DID NOT STALL, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT TOYOTA HAD A BAD BATCH OF ECMS IN 2005-2006 , BUT DID NOT TO RECALL THEM. INSTEAD, THEY WAITED TO SEE WHICH UNITS ACTUALLY FAILED BEFORE REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE ECMS. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, I TOLD THE SERVICE WRITER THAT IT APPEARED TO BE A DEFECTIVE ECM. HE TOLD ME I WAS MISTAKEN ABOUT THE ECM AND THAT IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SPARK PLUG MISFIRING. AFTER THEY CHECKED THE CAR, I WAS TOLD THAT A PLUG HAD FOULED OUT. I WAS CHARGED OVER $500 TO REPLACE ALL OF THE PLUGS AND THE IGNITION COIL, NOT JUST THE ONE FOULED PLUG . I WAS ALSO CHARGED $120 TO CLEAN WHAT I WAS TOLD WOULD BE THE FOULED FUEL INJECTOR, BUT IT WAS LISTED AS 'INTAKE CLEANING SERVICE.' I PICKED UP THE CAR AND DIDN'T GET 2 MILES FROM THE SHOP BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. ON THE SECOND TRIP TO SHOP THEY RESET THE LIGHT AND SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE CONDITION AGAIN. SO I TOOK THE CAR AND DROVE IT HOME. THE NEXT DAY ON THE WAY TO WORK, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. ON THE THIRD TRIP TO THE SHOP, THEY FINALLY ADMITTED THE ECM HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE ECM WAS FREE, BUT I AM STILL OUT OVER $620 IN REPAIRS FOR DAMAGE CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE ECM. MY PLUGS HAD ONLY 70,000 MILES (MOSTLY HIGHWAY) ON THEM AND SHOULD HAVE LASTED UNTIL 120,000 MILES. ON TOP OF THE REPAIRS, I WASTED A LOT OF GAS. NOW THAT THE ECM WAS REPLACED, I AM GETTING 2 MORE MILES PER GALLON. *TR

THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO WAIT 20-30 MINUTES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART. THE MADE SEVERAL REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED SEVERAL PARTS BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE COMPUTER WA REPROGRAMMED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

I HAD AN ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND THE CAR WOULD RUN ROUGH AND THE A/C WOULD NOT RUN. THEN THE CAR WOULD RUN OKAY AND THE A/C WOULD BE WORKING. I TOOK IT TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I NEED A NEW EVAP CANISTER AND NEW A/C COMPRESSOR . THIS WAS PUT ON AND I BROUGHT THE CAR HOME. THE A/C WORKED TOO WELL..WHEN THE FAN AND HEATER WERE ON THE A/C KEPT RIGHT ON RUNNING. I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY REPLACED THE CONTROL AIR, COMPUTER AND STILL NOT WORKING. THEN THEY PUT ANOTHER NEW COMPUTER ON IT AND NOT WORKING. THEN THEY PULLED THE DASH AND CHECKED THE WIRING..NOTHING. THEN THEY DID REWIRING WORK, THEN THEY DID CIRCUIT WORK AND THE A/C STILL DOES NOT WORK. I WAITED FOR TWO WEEKS FOR THEM TO TELL ME WHEN AN ENG WILL COME LOOK AT THE CAR.THEY HAD THE CAR 6 OUT OF 7 WEEKS AND I FINALLY BROUGHT THE CAR HOME AND IT IS SITTING IN THE YARD..CAR IS RUNNING BUT I STILL HAVE NO A/C AND I AM STILL WAITING FOR A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP. NO ONE HAS EVER CALLED TO TELL ME ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT THE CAR...I HAVE HAD TO CALL THEM . I LOOKED IN THE COMPUTER TO FIND THAT TOYOTA HAD A PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2006 COROLLA A/C BUT NEVER RECALLED. BUT I CAN'T GET ANYONE AT THE DEALERSHIP TO TELL ME ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT THIS. *TR
THIS IS TO REPORT AN ACCIDENT I WAS INVOLVED IN ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 30, 2010 IN THE MORNING AROUND 4:30AM, IN BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ON INTERSTATE I-95 NORTHBOUND, CLOSE TO EXIT 80, WITH MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. MY CAR WAS RECALLED BACK IN LATE AUGUST 2010 AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AS SOON AS I RECEIVED THE NOTIFICATION. AFTER INSPECTING THE ENGINE, THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT A COMPUTER IN THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE. HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT REPLACE THE MISSING PART AT THE TIME BUT INDICATED THAT I WILL RECEIVE NOTICE IN THE MAIL FOR WHEN I COULD BRING THE CAR BACK. THAT THURSDAY MORNING IT WAS RAINING AND I WAS DRIVING AROUND 50 MILES/HOUR WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE SPEED NEEDLE WENT COMPLETELY TO THE END OF THE SPEEDOMETER AND CAME BACK. IT DID THIS TWICE BEFORE SUDDENLY ACCELERATING AND SENDING THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. MY CAR HIT A TREE FROM THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE BEFORE STOPPING. THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND I INCURRED SEVERAL BODILY INJURIES AROUND THE NECK, CHEST, RIGHT SHOULDER, RIGHT HIP AND BACK. I WAS TAKEN TO THE ER RIGHT AFTER THE ACCIDENT AND BACK AGAIN YESTERDAY MONDAY OCTOBER 4, 2010 BECAUSE I COULD NOT MOVE. MY CAR IS STILL IN A TOWING LOT BUT MY INSURANCE WILL MOVE IT TO A COLLISION CENTER IN THE COMING DAYS. ON APRIL 23,2010, OUR 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA SHUT ITSELF OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. WE ONLY HAD A FEW SECONDS TO PULL OFF THE ROAD BEFORE IT COASTED TO A STOP. THE CAR WAS DOING FINE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT, AND WE HAD NO IDEA ANYTHING WAS WRONG. ON APRIL 27, THE ENGINE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED AT A TOYOTA DEALER. THE PARTS SALESMAN AND THE SERVICE RECEPTIONIST TOLD ME THAT THE COMPUTERS CHRONICALLY FAIL IN THESE CARS AND THEY KEEP ALL POSSIBLE TYPES IN STOCK TO REPLACE THEM. *TR

MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA BEGAN STALLING ON THE HIGHWAY LAST NIGHT AND ULTIMATELY LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER SITTING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND TRYING TO RESTART, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD SOMETIMES RESPOND AND OTHER TIMES WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED TO START THE ENGINE. WHEN THE GAUGE DOESN'T MOVE THE CAR WILL NOT START. WHEN THE GAUGE DOES MOVE THE CAR SOMETIMES STARTS BUT WILL ONLY GO A FEW FEET BEFORE STALLING AGAIN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON PERMANENTLY. 2006 COROLLA 4DR SEDAN HAS A FAULTY ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (COMPUTER) THAT CAUSES COMPLETE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. DIAGNOSTIC CODE P2716 FOR THIS MODEL YEAR GETS 40,000 HITS ON GOOGLE AND YET THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS DEFECTIVE PART. DEALER REPLACEMENT WITH UPDATED ECU PART COST ME $830 ON THIS 3-YEAR OLD CAR (WE'RE AT 83K MILES SO OUT OF WARRANTY). *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. HE PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE IT FINALLY STARTED, BUT IT IDLED ABNORMALLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED.HE CONTACTED THE DEALER A COUPLE DAYS LATER AND THEY TOLD HIM TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,376 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,376.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHEN THE CONTACT WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF AND AFTER TWO ATTEMPTS SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. WHEN SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC, IT SHUT OFF FOUR TIMES AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD APPEAR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ECM AND MASS AIR FILTER CENSOR AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59900 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60000.
THERE WAS NO WARNING. DRIVE CAR 400 MILES PER WEEK. ONE DAY I DROVE CAR TO COMMUTER PARKING LOT WITH NO PROBLEM, THAT EVENING IT STARTED FINE THEN STALLED WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR. TOOK A WHILE TO START THE 2ND TIME AND STALLED AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED 4 TIMES THEN I HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER SAID THE ENGINE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH NO REAL EXPLANATION. I EVEN ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION OTHER THAN IT HAPPENS. COMPUTER WAS REPLACED AND THE CAR RUNS FINE. THEY SAID IT WAS ONLY WARRANTIED FOR 1 YEAR. AS I WAS AWAY FROM HOME I HAD TO RENT A CAR FOR 2 DAYS WHILE THEY MADE THE REPAIRS. *TR
