My vehicle is subject to Safety Recall 20UF (Suction Jet Pump failure / Fire Risk). I have attempted to contact Pacific Volkswagen in Hawthorne, CA to schedule this safety-critical repair. On two separate occasions, upon mentioning that the call was regarding the 20UF recall, the dealership staff disconnected the call. This repeated 'recall avoidance' at Pacific Volkswagen is preventing me from remedying a known fire risk, and the dealership is effectively refusing to facilitate a federally mandated safety repair. I am concerned that the dealer is prioritizing paid service over safety-critical warranty work.
I have gear shift trim that has peeled and is extermely sharp in my vehicle. This had led to cutting my hands multiple times while accessing the center storage compartment. This is a known issue with GTIs and other Volkswagen trim manufacturing, yet Volkswagen refuses to replace the part in my VIN. The relevant Service Action Code is 34J7.
The water pump in these vehicles are known defects, with class actions resulting. My water pump has failed at less than 70k miles. This results in engine overheating and possible failure. Luckily I was able to get the car off the road.
Sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving down the highway. No collision or impact. Sounded like a gunshot. Had to immediately pull over, remove all of the glass in order to drive it at all.
MY CAR HAS 16500 MILES AND THE PANAROMIC ROOF DRAINS ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND WATER LEAKED INTO THE BACK OF CAR. I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS WATER IN THE CAR UNTIL I LOOKED INTO THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT WHICH HAD QUITE A BIT OF WATER IN IT. THEN I SAW THAT THE HEADLINER WAS STAINED IN THE REAR OF THE CAR. THIS IS A HAZZARD BECAUSE THERE ARE WIRES IN THE WELL FOR THE STEREO SYSTEM AND COULD HAVE CAUSED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS FOR THE VEHICLE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. IT IS GOING IN FOR REPAIR END OF JUNE (EARLIEST APPOINTMENT THAT IS AVAILABLE).
Continual unidentified leak in the roof area. I've seen many reports of this same issue for the 2017 Golf Alltrack, specifically on incline.
The sunroof glass exploded while driving. Shattered glass had the potential to fall into the vehicle had the sun shield not been closed. Shattered class could fly out onto the road causing hazards to other motorists. The sunroof has not been inspected yet. No warnings or symptoms prior to failure. While driving, a loud explosion was heard coming from the top of the car. When inspecting the top of the car it was noticed that the sunroof had been shattered along the seal. No signs of impact from projectiles.
Whenever you put the car in park and take your foot off the brake the car will roll a little.
Gear Shift trim piece chrome plating splits and lifts up. This part caused a laceration on my finger from the fingernail to 1st knuckle. Related Reference :: Service action 347J - Gear Shift Cover Trim:: This applies only to GTI and needs to apply to Golf in general
There is a piece of trim near the gear selector in the interior that separated to reveal a sharp edge that caused a severe cut on my hand.
On 8/22/21, the aluminum/plastic trim around the gear shifter boot gave me a deep cut on my pinky finger as I removed my phone from the USB adapter. The bleeding did not stop for several hours even after applying pressure and I'm very lucky that I didn't need stitches!!! That aluminum/plastic trim is RAZOR SHARP!!! This is an extreme safety hazard for drivers and passengers and not to mention children!!! Why Volkswagen has not issued a recall on this dangerously sharp part is appalling!!! I take excellent care of my vehicle and normal wear and tear does not equal a razor sharp edge on a gear shifter boot. This is shoddy craftsmanship and UNSAFE for ALL drivers and passengers. I contacted Volkswagen customer care and they asked me to send pictures of the faulty part and asked me to take it to the nearest dealership so they could assess. The VW dealership assessed the issue and advised they would need to order the part to replace. Volkswagen care agreed to a "goodwill gesture" to have the trim replaced free of charge to me. Fast forward to the dealer replacing the part and I receive the car back...THE TRIM IS STILL RAZOR SHARP!!!! What was the point of that exercise? Volkswagen offered zero help when I advised them of this and closed my case. THIS PART NEEDS TO BE RECALLED SO NO CHILDREN (or ANYONE) GET CUT!!! I am extremely disappointed at how Volkswagen handled this and how they have not done THE RIGHT THING and done a recall for this part. There is precedent for this happening on Volkswagen forums all over the internet!!! I at least want to document this complaint to NHTSA and to point out Volkswagen's bad business practice with this.
warning lights sporatically turning on indicating failure to communicate with TPMS, ABS/ Stabilization control (ESC), Airbag and front collision warning (including all other drive safe support, (blind spot and rear alert). All items stop communicating with car and say they are off. Error happens after heavy rain, leak detected around sunroof. Warning lights / issues disappear after some time. 55000 miles, 2017 VW golf.
The aluminum trim piece around gear shift has come up from the plastic underneath. It is the front of the trim next to where there is a charging outlet and small item storage. When removing my phone one day, I caught my finger on the raised (delaminated) section of the aluminum and sliced my finger open. I did not need stitches, but did use butterfly closures while it healed. I removed the part that was sticking up so now the sharp edge is closer to the exposed plastic and not as much of a hazard. A quick online search shows this is a fairly common problem with many people reporting a cut finger/hand.
ABOUT A MONTH OR SO AFTER I GOT THE CAR, IT STARTED MAKING A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT (AND NOW WHEN YOU TURN IT BACK TO THE RIGHT TO STRAIGHTEN OUT) NOTICEABLE AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS SUCH AS PULLING IN AND OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. I TOOK IT TO THE RENO VW AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO NOISE. I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN MONTHS LATER AND FIRST THEY SAID THERE WAS NO NOISE, AND I ASKED THAT THEY CHECK IT AGAIN. THEN THEY TRIED TO TELL ME IT WAS FROM MY BIKE RACK WHICH IS ON THE REAR OF MY CAR, ONLY ON IN THE SUMMER, AND THE NOISE IS THERE YEAR ROUND IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THEN THEY GOT ON THE PHONE WITH "TECH SUPPORT" AND WERE TOLD IT'S A CLOCK SPRING AND IT'S A NORMAL NOISE. IN FORTY YEARS OF DRIVING, I HAVE NEVER HEARD SUCH A NOISE. TWO PEOPLE I KNOW HAVE THE SAME CAR, AND THEIR VEHICLES DO NOT MAKE THIS NOISE. I SEE THAT VW HAS HAD CLOCK SPRING RECALLS ON SOME OF THEIR OTHER VEHICLES. MY VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND THIS SHOULD BE FIXED. THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT I WOULD PREFER TO AVOID.
FRONT PANEL OF SUNROOF SHATTERED ON TOP OF DRIVER'S HEAD WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THE TOP OF THE ROOF WAS PROTECTED BY A THULE CARGO CARRIER (EMPTY) SO IT COULDN'T HAVE BEEN HIT BY A FOREIGN OBJECT ON THE OUTSIDE.
PURCHASE THE CAR ON APRIL 2018 ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 21ST AROUND 3 P.M. I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY SR 14 GOING AROUND 55 60 MILES AN HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY A VERY LOUD EXPLOSION FOLLOWED BY HUNDREDS OF PIECES OF CHARRED GLASS FALLING DOWN FROM THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF THE EXPLOSION WAS SO LOUD THAT FOR A MOMENT I THOUGHT THAT SOMEONE WAS SHOOTING AT MY CAR VOLKSWAGEN CLAIMS THAT DEBRIS ON THE ROAD OR PASSING CARS MAY HAVE CAUSED THE EXPLOSION OF THE SUN ROOF I JUST WANT TO MENTION THAT THERE WERE NO CARS NEAR ME AND AFTER I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED AT THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE THE SUNROOF BLEW UP FROM THE INSIDE OUT VOLKSWAGEN DEALER IT'S NOT WILLING TO ASSUME THE RESPONSIBILITY
SHATTERED SUNROOF FOR 2017 VW GOLF GTI. SUNROOF SHATTERED FOLLOWING A LOUD NOISE WITH NO OBVIOUS DIRECT CAUSE. THERE WERE NO VEHICLES AHEAD AND NO OVERHEADS OR BRIDGES IN THE AREA. EVENT TOOK PLACE ON AUGUST 16TH, 2018 ON A SUNNY MORNING (75-80F), AT 45-55MPH. THE ENTIRE SUNROOF CRACKED FOLLOWING THE LOUD NOISE AND SMALL PIECES BEGAN TO SLOWLY FALL ON TOP OF THE SEE-THROUGH FABRIC SUNROOF SHADE THAT WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. LARGER PORTIONS OF THE SUNROOF FELL AS THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO A SAFE LOCATION TO REMOVE THE REMAINING GLASS. SHATTERING GLASS POSES A SAFETY CONCERN TO DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, IN ADDITION TO NEARBY MOTORISTS THAT COULD GET IMPACTED BY THE GLASS DEBRIS AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE USE OF LAMINATED GLASS COULD PREVENT THIS SAFETY CONCERN TO MOTORISTS.
WATER IS LEAKING FROM SUN ROOF. I FOUND STAIN ON THE CEILING HERE AND THERE.
THERE'S A WATER LEAK COMING FROM THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF. THE CAR IS USUALLY GARAGE KEPT BUT I HAD IT PARKED OUTSIDE ONE WEEKEND WHEN WE HAD BAD STORMS AND THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED THE WATER STAINS IN MY HEADLINER AND THE WATER DRIPPING DOWN INTO THE BACK HATCH AREA. THE DEALER HAD TO SEND THE CAR TO A BODY SHOP TO HAVE THEM GRIND DOWN WELDS THAT HAVE CAUSED AN OBSTRUCTION IN THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM. THERE'S STAINS IN THE HEADLINER AND AN ODOR THAT'S COMING FROM IT SO IT APPEARS TO HAVE MOLD. THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO FIX THE LEAK AND INSTALL A NEW HEADLINER BUT I'M ALSO WORRIED OF ANY ELECTRICAL DAMAGE THAT MAY ARISE AS A RESULT. IT'S BEEN ABOUT 4 WEEKS NOW AND THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO REPAIR THIS. I FEEL LIKE THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE AND YET THEY STILL SOLD ME THE CAR EVEN KNOWING THIS COULD BE A POSSIBILITY. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN NOVEMBER 2017 AND I BOUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR IN JUNE 2018. THIS IS MY SECOND VOLKSWAGEN BUT WILL PROBABLY BE MY LAST. I NEED A RELIABLE CAR THAT I CAN DRIVE AND NOT ONE THAT SITS IN A REPAIR SHOP FOR WEEKS NOT KNOWING IF THE ISSUE WILL ACTUALLY BE RESOLVED. FROM OTHER FORUMS I'VE READ, THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND MANY OTHERS ARE GOING THROUGH THIS SAME PAINFUL PROCESS.
INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM RESTARTS EVERY FEW MINUTES DURING OPERATION. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS VERY DISTRACTING WHEN USING THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM WHILE DRIVING AND CAN CAUSE THE DRIVER TO BECOME DISTRACTED.
ON 6/21/17, A SUV CAR REAR-ENDED MY VEHICLE WHILE I WAS TRAVELING IN TOWN ABOUT 4-6 MPH BECAUSE I HAD SLOWED DOWN AND WAS PREPARING TO STOP FOR AN AMBER LIGHT. WHEN THE PERSON HIT MY CAR, MY HEAD AND UPPER BODY WERE VIOLENTLY THRUST FORWARD AND BACK AS MY HEAD HIT NEAR THE BOTTOM AREA OF MY HEADREST. I HAVE A CONCUSSION AND WHIP LASH. MY CAR HAS REAR-END AND SIDE DAMAGE. SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED MY NEW CAR IN SEPT. 2016, I COMPLAINED ABOUT MY CONCERN TO THE DEALER, DIRITO BROTHERS IN WALNUT CREEK, CA AND SPOKE TO: [XXX], SALESPERSON, [XXX], OWNER, [XXX], THE SERVICE MANAGER, AND [XXX], SERVICE CONSULTANT AND TOLD THEM SINCE THE SEAT IS TOO TALL, THE HEADREST DOESN'T GO DOWN ENOUGH TO CRADLE MY HEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HEADREST. I TOLD THEM I WAS AFRAID IF I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, MY HEAD COULD POSSIBLY HIT AT OR NEAR THE BOTTOM PART OF THE HEADREST AND I COULD POSSILBLY BE INJURED (WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED). MY NAME IS [XXX], PH # IS [XXX], EMAIL IS [XXX], AND MY MILEAGE IS 14,739. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH VW OF AMERICA, CASE #[XXX] ON 6/30/17. I TOLD THEM MY MAIN CONCERN WAS SAFETY AND FOR THE PROBLEM TO BE RESOLVED TO PREVENT INJURIES OF THEIR CUSTOMERS IN FUTURE ACCIDENTS. I SUGGESTED A RECALL AND POSSIBLE COMPENSATION. TODAY, VW STAFF, [XXX] CONTACTED ME AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO SINCE THE NHTSA (YOUR AGENCY) SAID VW HEADRESTS MEET AND EXCEED FEDERAL SAFETY STANDARDS. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR, [XXX] PLACED ME ON-HOLD AND WHEN SHE RETURNED TO THE PHONE, SHE SAID THE SUPERVISORS WERE ALL IN A MEETING, AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. VW OF AMERICA REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY AND OTHERS' SAFETY AND SHOWED NO CONCERN. THIS IS THE 3RD GOLF VW I'VE OWNED AND I'VE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY WITH HEADRESTS. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
