WAS DRIVING VEHICLE WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE COMPUTER FLASHED THAT THE ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY DROPPED SPEED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH OUT BEING STUCK BY ANY CARS BEHIND ME. HAD I BEEN ON A HIGHWAY I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I HAVE THE COMPUTER THAT SHOWS ERROR CODES WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND IT READ THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. NOW WHEN I TURN THE CARE ON IT SOMETIMES WILL IMMEDIATELY SAY REDUCED POWER. I CALLED CHEVY AND THEY SAID IT WOULD BE DIAGNOSED BY ONE OF THEIR DEALERSHIPS. THE FIRST DEALERSHIP SAID I WILL NEED TO WAIT UNTIL MARCH TO COME IN, THE NEXT 2 WEEKS FROM NOW. IN THE MEANTIME CHEVY THINKS IT'S SAFE TO DRIVE MY CAR LIKE THIS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, WHENEVER THE HEATER WAS ACTIVATED, A BURNING ODOR WAS PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF AGO I HAD TAKEN MY CRUZE IN FOR SERVICE WHERE I WAS PURCHASED MY 2011 CHEVY CRUZE. I HAD A RECALL ON A COOLANT LEAK AT THE PUMP. I HAD TAKEN IT IN FOR SERVICE AND OIL CHANGE. THE LADY I HAD COMMUNICATED WITH ABOUT THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING ABOUT A BURNT SMELL WHEN I TURNED ON MY HEAT. SHE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS OR LEAK. ONE DAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK I STARTED CHOCKING AND MY EYES WHERE BURNING FROM AN INTENSE BURNING SMELL. WHEN I ARRIVED AT HOME I POPPED MY HOOD AND NOTICED THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO COOLANT IN MY OVERFLOW TANK. I THEN CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING WITH MY CRUZE. THEY TOOK ACTION AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE PUMP AND COOLANT LINES WHERE THERE WAS A LEAK FREE OF CHARGE. (SHE NO IONGER WORKS FOR THE DEALERSHIP) I DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG I WAS DRIVING MY CRUZE WITHOUT ANY COOLANT. I STILL HAVE A CONTINUOUS SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING AND HAVE TO TAKE IT IN FOR SERVICE AGAIN. I ALSO EXPERIENCE A SHACK WHEN THE CAR IS AT AN IDOL. IM BEING TO QUESTION MY PURCHASE OF MY CHEVY CRUZE. HOPEFULLY WHEN I TAKE IT IN FOR SERVICE THEY ARE ABLE TO PIN POINT THE PROBLEMS AND THAT THE LAST VISIT I NEED TO MAKE TO THE DEALERSHIP. *JS
COOLING SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE LEAKING AND FUMES OF ANTIFREEZE ARE BLOWING THROUGH HVAC SYSTEM CAUSING SOME OCCUPANTS TO BECOME NAUSEOUS. DEALER ATTEMPTED TO FIX BUT THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE DESIGN OF THE SYSTEM. SYSTEM ALSO LEAKED ON THE HOT ENGINE CAUSING "STEAM" TO SHOW FROM UNDER THE HOOD, WE THOUGHT IT WAS A FIRE BUT WHEN THE HOOD WAS OPENED IT WAS STEAM FROM THE ANTIFREEZE BOILING ON THE ENGINE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE WAY TO WORK ONE DAY AND OUT OF NO WHERE GOING DOWN MY HILL MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON AND MY DASH BOARD SAID "ENGINE POWER REDUCED". IT WOULDN'T LET ME ACCELERATE SO I STOPPED AND SHUT OFF THE CAR. I STARTED IT 5 MINUTES LATER AND IT RAN NORMAL BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK IT DID IT 2 MORE TIMES. ITS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BECAUSE WHEN ALL THOSE LIGHTS COME ON YOUR CAR GOES FROM 60MPH TO 10MPH IN 5 SECONDS. IF YOURE DRIVING AND SOMEONE IS DIRECTLY BEHIND YOU THEYRE GOING TO CRASH INTO YOU. AFTER A DAY OR TWO I MADE AN APPT. TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND I KEPT DRIVING IT BECAUSE I NEED TO GET TO WORK. NOW THE CAR NOT ONLY SAYS "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" BUT IT ALSO SAYS " SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" BUT THATS NOT EVEN WHATS WRONG WITH THE CAR. ITS THE THROTTLE BODY. NOW CHEVROLET IS EXPECTING ME TO PAY 500 TO FIX IT AND I DONT HAVE THAT, THEY WONT RENT ME A RENTAL CAR AND I HAVE NO OTHER WAY TO WORK. I PAY FOR INSURANCE FOR THE CAR THROUGH THEM BUT APPARENTLY ANYTHING THATS WRONG WITH MY CAR ISNT COVERED BY ANY OF THE INSURANCE THAT I BOUGHT FROM THEM. THIS IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AROUND AND I'M PISSED THAT THEY DON'T CARE OR SELL ME THIS CRAP INSURANCE THAT DOESNT COVER ANYTHING IMPORTANT. DROVE MY CAR TO WORK WITHOUT INCIDENT HOWEVER WHEN I CAME OUT AT 4PM THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WORKED, RADIO AND BLUE TOOTH WORKED WHEN THE KEY WAS INSERTED BUT CAR WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED ON JAN 11TH TO AL SERRA DEALERSHIP. AFTER 36 HOURS THE DEALERSHIP CALLED TO SAY IT WAS THE BATTERY. THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS UNABLE TO EXPLAIN HOW THE RADIO, BLUE TOOTH PHONE POWER AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE WORKING. AFTER HAVING THE BATTERY REPLACED IT WAS CLEAR MY VEHICLE WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. WHEN DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DIMMED AND THE BATTERY VOLTAGE METER FLUCTUATED FROM 15.3 TO 12.3. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PERFORMING AS IT HAD PRIOR TO THE BATTERY CHANGE. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP STATING THE CAR WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY SINCE THE BATTERY CHANGE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED I WOULD NEED TO SIGN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF ~150.00 BEFORE THEY WOULD LOOK AT THE VEHICLE TO INSPECT THEIR WORK. I LEFT WITH MY VEHICLE AND CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER COMPLAINT LINE TO REPORT THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNWILLING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK UNLESS I AGREED TO PAY THEM ~150.00. ABOUT 10 DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM REGARDING A SPECIAL NOTICE ABOUT THE BATTERY CABLE. I AGAIN RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE BATTERY CABLE CHECKED/REPLACED. AGAIN AL SERRA DEALERSHIP STATED I NEEDED SIGN THAT I WOULD PAY A $100.00 FEE IF THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BATTERY CABLE. I STATED "YOU DID NOT FIX MY PROPERLY THE FIRST TIME. I FEEL YOU REFUSED TO STAND BEHIND YOUR WORK AND NOW I HAVE A LETTER FROM GM REGARDING THE BATTERY CABLE. NOW YOU STILL WANT ME TO PAY YOU TO FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU DID WRONG THE FIRST TIME. I LEFT WITH MY VEHICLE - STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL TO STOP GM DEALERSHIPS FROM RIPPING OFF CUSTOMERS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET CRUZE. WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A CHEMICAL ODOR COMING FROM THE AIR VENTS IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO COOLANT IN THE RESERVOIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE HOSE FROM THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. UPDATED 6/11/15*CN UPDATED 10/4/2017*CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 CHEVROLET CRUZE. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING THROUGH THE VENT AND INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. MOMENTS LATER, SMOKE AND FLAMES APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE, SEVERAL EXPLOSIONS WERE HEARD COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
I PURCHASED THE 2011 CHEVY CRUZE WITH APPROX 55 K. WHEN I DROVE THE CAR AT THE LOT EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. THE NEXT DAY I KEPT HEARING A SURGE LIKE SOUND IN THE ENGINE AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PUSHED THE CAR WOULD NOT GAIN ANY SPEED OR POWER. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS COMMON IN THE CHEVY CRUZES BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE SIZE AND THAT WHY THE CAR IS ABLE TO GET SUCH GREAT GAS MILEAGE. I COULD NOT STAND THE NOISE ANY LONGER MARCH 19, 2014 I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED. I INFORMED THEM OF THE ISSUES I WAS HAVING WITH THE SURGING SOUND AND THE LOSS OF SPEED & POWER. THE NEXT DAY INFORMED ME THEY COULD NOT HEAR ANY SURGING SOUND AND ONLY FOUND 1 PROBLEM LEAKING THERMOSTAT. I WAS REFERRED TO THE GM DEALER TO GET FIXED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. IT HAS NOT EVEN BEEN A FULL YEAR SINCE I PURCHASED THIS CAR. ON APRIL 7TH 2014 I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR AND ALL OF SUDDEN I HEAR A DINGING SOUND ALL THE ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON, ALONG WITH THE HAZARDS LIGHTS AND THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER,THE CENTER PANEL KEPT READING TRANSMISSION HOT IDLE ENGINE. I HAD NOT HAD ANY OTHER PREVIOUS WARNINGS,ALL THE GAUGES APPEARED TO BE NORMAL WITH NO SIGN OF OVER HEATING. I CONTACTED THE CHEVY DEALER AND TOOK THE CAR DOWN RIGHT AWAY.EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND THE ISSUES THE DIAGNOSES THAT WAS GIVEN FROM THE SERVICE DEPT WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED. THE NEXT DAY THE CHEVY DEALER CONTACTED ME AND SAID THEY HAD REPLACE THE WATER PUMP. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION HAD BURNT OIL AND NEEDS TO BE FLUSHED AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THEY TOO COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING ELSE WRONG AS TO WHY TRANSMISSION IS RUNNING HOT,NOT EVEN WITH THE SURGING SOUND AND LOSE OF POWER. APRIL 11TH 2014 HAD THE SAME ISSUES AGAIN. *JS
MY WIFE NOTICE THE COOLANT RESERVOIR LEVEL HAD FALLING WELL BELOW THE FULL MARK. SHE NOTIFIED ME THAT SHE NEEDED COOLANT ADDED. SO WE BOTH INSPECTED THE CAR AND COULD NOT FIND ANY LEAKS SO ELECTED TO FILL THE RESERVOIR AND NOTIFIED THE DEALER. THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE WATER PUMP SEAL WAS BAD AND THAT THE COOLANT WOULD DRIP ONTO THE UNDERLYING PAN AND EVAPORATE NOT LEAVING A TRACE OF A LEAK. THIS WAS PART OF A RECALL SO THE REPAIR WAS MADE. APRIL 2014, MILEAGE 88000. ANOTHER COOLANT LEAK, OUTLET MANIFOLD AND HOSE FAILURE. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTIES DUE TO IT BEING A HOSE. SO I WAS CHARGED $243.80 FOR WHAT TURNED OUT TO BE A OUTLET MANIFOLD, ATTACHED TO THE ENGINE (FAILURE). BECAUSE A HOSE WAS ATTACHED TO IT THEY CLAIMED IT WAS NOT COVERED! MY INVOICE READS $180.00 LABOR, 20.60 COOLANT, OUTLET 30.08 AND HOSE 13.12. 11/18/2014, ANOTHER COOLANT LEAK. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON 11/20/2014 WITH THE DEALER AND I'M GOING TO ASK FOR A REFUND DUE TO IN MY OPINION EXCESSIVE COOLANT PROBLEMS. I BELIEVE THIS COULD EFFECT THE ENGINE COOLING PERFORMANCE AND DAMAGE THE ENGINE IF NOT ALREADY. I HAVE PAID FOR THE FULL WARRANTY PACKAGE WHEN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED PLUS EXTENDED WARRANTY PACKAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VALVE COVER GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT HE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
PROBLEM STARTED CLOSE TO WINTER,OCTOBER 2013. COOLANT LEVEL SLOWLY DECREASED, NOT CONCERNED AT THE TIME, JUST TOPPED OFF DURING OIL CHANGES. FAST FORWARD TO APRIL 2014, REFILL OF COOLANT NEEDED DAILY IF HEAT IS USED. COOLANT TANK IS COMPLETELY EMPTY AFTER CAR IS OFF AND SITTING FOR A FEW HOURS! LARGE PUDDLE OF COOLANT UNDER ENGINE, NOT THE RADIATOR. REMAINS TO BE A SLOW LEAK. WHEN HEAT IS ON, COOLANT BEGINS TO SLOWLY LEAK UNDERNEATH ENGINE. TEMP GAUGE IS ALWAYS NORMAL. NO SIGNS OF OVERHEATING, NO EXCESS COOLANT IN ENGINE BAY. ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE COMPLETED BY CHEVROLET DEALERSHIPS. DEX (GM SPECIFIC COOLANT, ORANGE IN COLOR) COOLANT USED EXCLUSIVELY. EVERY TIME HEAT IS TURN ON, AT ANY TEMP, AT ANY FAN SPEED, AT ANY SETTING (DEFROST, FLOOR, ETC.) THERE IS A STRONG ODOR OF BURNING/HOT COOLANT. I AM UNABLE TO PUT MY CHILDREN IN VEHICLE!, WHEN HEAT IS NEEDED IN VEHICLE. ODOR IS TOO STRONG AND CHILDREN COMPLAINED OF NAUSEA AND LIGHTHEADEDNESS. TO MANY INSTANCES SIMILAR TO THIS LISTED. GM NEEDS TO PROVIDE RESOLUTION. *TR

WHILE DRIVING THE AC BLOWS COLD AIR THROUGH THE TOP VENTS BUT HOT AIR FROM THE BOTTOM VENT ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THE AREA ON THE CENTER CONSOLE THAT TOUCHES THE DRIVER'S LEG BECOMES HOT TO TOUCH AND EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE WHILE DRIVING FOR MORE THAN 1 HOUR. THIS AREA SHOULD NOT BE THIS HOT AND SO FAR NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE REASON FOR THE OVERHEATING OF THE CENTER CONSOLE AREA. *TR
I AM NOTIFYING YOU THAT I HAVE HAD MY WATER PUMP REPLACED THREE TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE CAR WHICH WAS BOUGHT IN APRIL OF 2012 WITH 9,000 MILES ON IT, IT SEEMS EVERY FALL I AM REPLACING THE WATER PUMP AS IT HAS SOME SORT OF LEAK INTERNALLY. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING TO CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. NOW RECENTLY MY TURBO OIL LINE SPRUNG A LEAK AT 92,000 MILES AND SO DID MY TRANSMISSION OIL LINE SO IT WAS BACK IN THE REPAIR SHOP. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE HEATED SEAT ELEMENT AS THIS HAS BURNT OUT SOMEHOW. THIS CAR HAS BEEN VERY FRUSTRATING MECHANICALLY BUT OTHERWISE LOVE MY CRUZE. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO BESIDES WAIT FOR THE 4TH WATER PUMP TO CLAIM A LEMON UNDER THE LEMON LAW? *TR

THE TURBOCHARGER, DUE TO A FAULTY BEARING AS I AM BEING TOLD BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC HAS CAUSED THE BLADE INSIDE THE TURBOCHARGER TO BECOME UNSTABLE CAUSING IT SLAM AGAINST THE PARTS INSIDE THE CHARGER, THUS CREATING A LOUD WHAT I CAN ONLY DESCRIBE AS PUTTING A PEN IN A METAL FAN BLADE WHILE IT IS SPINNING. I HAVE THE POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY STILL ON THE CAR, BUT I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE IN PUBLIC FORUMS WHERE THIS BECOMING A COMMON ISSUE FOR THIS VEHICLE BETWEEN THE MILEAGE RANGES OF 30-60 THOUSAND. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT THE TIME WHEN IT INITIALLY STARTED MAKING THE NOISE AT ABOUT 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE WITH OUR TWO CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THANKFULLY SHE WAS NEARLY HOME WHERE WE HAVE THE CAR CHECKED OUT AND IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE TURBOCHARGER. *TR
2011 CHEVY CRUZE LOSING ANTIFREEZE, HAD TO KEEP ADDING ANTIFREEZE ONCE IT GOT LOW THE HEATER WOULD BLOW COLD AIR WHILE STOPPED AT STOP SIGN/STOP LIGHT. FOUND OUT ITS THE HEAD GASKET NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT ONLY UNDER 24000 MILES. *TR

WHILE CRUISING ALONG THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STALLS AS IF ALL THE FUEL HAD STOPPED GOING TO IT. AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF STALL AND SLOWING DOWN WHILE PRESSING ON THE GAS ALL THE TIME, IT SUDDENLY BEGAN PICKING UP SPEED AGAIN. HOWEVER, THERE WAS AN EXTREMELY LARGE CLOUD OF SMOKE COMING OUT THE REAR OF THE CAR. THIS OCCURRED 4-5 MORE TIMES BEFORE I ARRIVED AT HOME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS THE DEALER REPORTED THE PROBLEM WOULD BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. THREE WEEKS LATER I GET THE CAR BACK FROM THE DEALER WHO REPORTED THE ENGINE HAD "BAD PISTONS". APPARENTLY THERE HAD BEEN A NOTICE TO DEALERS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM AND HOW TO FIX IT. THE DEALER DID PROVIDE A NEW LOANER MALIBU WHILE REPAIRING MY CAR. AT 40,000 MILES AND HAVE TO HAVE THE ENGINE REBUILT DOES NOT ENHANCE CONFIDENCE IN THE NEW GM. *TR
THE CAR HAS BEEN LOSING POWER OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. I KEPT TAKING IT BACK TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG AND RESET THE LIGHT. HOWEVER NOW THE CAR WILL NOT BARELY GO, I HAVE POWER BUT ITS FORCED AND ITS AS IF I HAVE TO PUSH THE CAR UP THE HILLS TO GO. I LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA SO THIS IS NOT AN IDEAL SITUATION, BUT I HAVE HAD MY OIL CHANGED REGULARLY EVERY 3,000 MILES ALTHOUGH OTHER ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED WITH THE CAR LIKE THE COOLING SYSTEM AND THE TEMP GAGE THIS TIME I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED PROFESSIONALLY WITH AN OUTSIDE CONSULT RATHER THAN GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT IT IS MY TURBO IT DOESN'T WORK AND PROBABLY HASN'T WORKED PROPERLY ON MY CAR. I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL FORUMS FOR CHEVY CRUZES AND IT SEEMS LIKE THERE ARE LOTS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE AS WELL. *TR
