2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER STEERING FAILURE AFTER ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RECALL REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. IT WORKED INTERMITTENTLY DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER; WHEN IT WAS COLD IT WORKED, BUT WHEN IT WAS HOT, IT DIDN'T WORK. WHEN THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER, THEY INFORMED HIM HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $650 TO REPLACE A PART, THAT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A LOWER BACK INJURY THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE WAS REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE ON EXIT RAMP FROM ONE INTERSTATE TO ANOTHER INTERSTATE HIGHWAY DURING A VEER TO THE LEFT, CAR SUDDENLY VEERED RIGHT & CROSSED A LANE OF TRAFFIC HEADING FOR AN EMBANKMENT AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES, UNABLE TO STEER, WHICH CAUSED MY CAR TO TURN 180 DEGREES AND SLID INTO THE EMBANKMENT. HAD I NOT DONE THE 180 DEGREE SPIN, I WOULD HAVE HIT THE EMBANKMENT HEAD ON, LIKELY BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THE RECALL REPAIR TOOK PLACE AND OBVIOUSLY FAILED. I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO TRUST DRIVING IT AGAIN.
I HAD THE STEERING ASSIST RECALL 14V-153 PERFORMED ON MY CAR LAST YEAR, TODAY WHEN I MAKE TURNS I AM LOSING POWER STEERING AND I GET THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE ON THE INFORMATION SYSTEM. MY GUESS IS THE SAME PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN.
WHEN PUTING THE CAR IN PARK THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON IN THE COMPUTER INFO SECTION AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN BUT IT PULSED OR VIBRATED BACK AND FORTH SIDE TO SIDE. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON A FEW TIMES AND IT EVENTUALLY STEERING CAME BACK AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WENT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THIS MORNIG 12/05/2016 WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN WITHOUT STRAINING HARD. AFTER I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON THE POWER STEERING CAME BACK BUT IT STARTED THE PULSING AGAIN. CAR WAS STILL STATIONARY BUT I HAVE TO DRIVE IT TODAY. PRAY FOR ME.
WHEN ACCELERATING POWER STEERING ASSIST LOCKS MOMENTARILY MAKING UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITON. LET OFF PEDAL AND IT COMES BACK.DASHBOARD BELL ALSO DINGS WHEN THIS OCCURS. ALSO STEERING MAKES BINDING NOISE LIKE A LARGE RUBBER BAND BEING STRETCHED WHEN YOU TURN THE WHEEL BACK AND FORTH.
"TAKATA RECALL" I WAS PULLING OUT MY DRIVEWAY AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND IT STARTED TWITCHING SO I HURRIED UP AND PUT MY CAR IN REVERSE BUT EVERYTHING STARTED TO BLANK AND THE CAR CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD IN FRONT OF A CAR. THERE WAS TWO GUYS IN THE CAR THAT HELPED ME PUSH MY CAR BACK IN MY YARD. I LET MY CAR REST FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AND WENT OUT AND TRIED TO MOVE IT BUT ONCE I CRANCKED THE CAR AND PUT IT IN GEAR THE WHEEL WAS STILL LOCKED LIKE...I CAN NOT FULLY TURN LEFT OR RIGHT ALL THE LIGHTS START TO BLANK AND THE WHOLE CAR SHUTS OFF.
MY CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER AND THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE APPEARED ON MY SYSTEM. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I AM DRIVING THE CAR.IT HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY AND CITY STREET. IT HAPPENS WHEN I AM DRIVING AND NOT TURNING.
STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT. IT CONTINUED SHAKING EVEN WHEN CAR WAS COMPLETED STOPPED. HAD TO SHUT CAR OFF TO STOP THE STEERING WHEEL FROM SHAKING.

THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER A MANUFACTURER RECALL WHERE THE TORQUE SENSOR ASSEMBLY AND EPS MOTOR CONTROLLER UNIT WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN AND TORQUE SENOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PRIOR TO THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V064000 (STEERING); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN A CLUNKING NOISE HAPPENES.TOLD BY SERVICE CENTER ITS THE STEERING COLUMN.I CHECKED INTERNET AND FOUND MANY,MANY MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CHEV MALIBU WITH THE STEERING COLUMN.THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS MODEL.COST ABOUT $500.00 TO FIX AND SOME PEOPLE HAVE THE PROBLEM HAPPEN AGAIN.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER BUT HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 187,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR KIT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER ON OCTOBER 13, 2014; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED IN JANUARY OF 2015. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT OPERABLE AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE STEERING WHEEL WILL GET HARD TO TURN USUALLY WHEN I AM IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING LANES ON THE INTERSTATE AND ACCELERATING. SOMETIMES AN ALARM WILL COME ON AND A LIGHT WILL COME ON FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN GO OFF. HERE LATELY THE ALARM IS NOT COMING ON. IT IS GETTING WERE IT IS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN, AT LEAST A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK NOW. MOST OF MY DRIVING IS DONE ON THE INTERSTATE AND IT IS SCARY BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW IF I CAN TRUST MY CAR WHEN MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE.

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION WHILE DRIVING. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE WHEEL RIGHT OR LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $ 703.90. THE CONSUMER SUBMITTED SENT IN A RECALL FOR THE STEERING. *JB
BEFORE I SEEN IT WAS IN HERE, MY INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WENT OUT ON MY CAR, AND I REPLACED IT. I SAW THE RECALL IN HERE AND CALLED DORMAN TO HAVE THEM REIMBURSE ME 258.00 FOR THE PART, BUT THEY SAID THAT THEIR NOT RESPONSIBLE TO REPLACE THE PART AS YOUR INF0RMATION IN HERE STATES, SO WHO IS IN CHARGE? I HAVE PROOF I HAD TO REPLACE IT AND CAN DISCLOSE THE INFORMATION. I JUST WANT THE 258.00 I PAID TO REPLACE IT. MY VEHICLE WAS MOVING WHEN I HEARD THE NOISE AS I WOULD STEER TO THE RIGHT MORE THAN THE LEFT BUT BOTH SIDES MADE NOISE.
AFTER STARTING AND DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING WARNING MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER AND A CHIME SOUNDED. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WAS LOST AND THE VEHICLE REVERTED TO MANUAL STEERING. IT TOOK GREATER DRIVER EFFORT TO TURN THE VEHICLE AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS CRASH. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND PARKED, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST RETURNED AND THE WARNING DISAPPEARED. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE ISSUE WITH POWER STEERING REAPPEARS. WE CONTACTED OUR LOCAL CHEVY DEALER SERVICE CENTER, AS WELL AS THE GM CHEVROLET HOTLINE AT 1-800-630-2438. BOTH ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO CURRENT RECALL WITH OUR VEHICLE BASED ON THE VIN AND THEY REFUSED TO MAKE APPROPRIATE THE REPAIRS. PLEASE DO FURTHER RESEARCH TO EXPAND THE CURRENT RECALL BULLETIN 14116 WHICH COVERS MODEL YEARS 2004-2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU AND MALIBU MAXX TO INCLUDE OUR VIN NUMBER, OR BETTER YET, TO INCLUDE ALL MALIBUS AND MALIBU MAXXS OF ANY YEAR. CLEARLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AND REPAIRS NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED ASAP TO PREVENT POTENTIALLY FATAL CRASHES. *TR

WHILE DRIVING, I LOSE CONTROL OF POWER STEERING FOR A BRIEF TIME. POWER STEERING FLASHES ON MY CONSOLE RIGHT BEFORE THIS OCCURS. THE FIRST TIME, I ALMOST COLLIDED WITH AN 18 WHEELER WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. UPON GOING TO THE DEALER, I WAS ADVISED IT IS MY MALIBU'S ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR. THIS PART IS COVERED UNDER THE 2008 MALIBU RECALL AND CERTAINLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE 06! THIS IS A GRAVE SAFETY ISSUE THAT MANY ARE EXPERIENCING.
AFTER (2-3) RECALLS ON STEERING, AFTER STEERING SENSORS REPLACED ALSO, VEHICLE OKAY FOR ABOUT A MONTH, THEN BACK TO SAME STEERING LOSS ISSUES. LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND RUMBLING OF THE STEERING COLUMN, TO THE POINT IT FEELS LIKE THE COLUMN AND A TIRE IS GOING TO FALL OFF ! MY FIRST INCIDENT STARTED BACK IN 2013-14, TOTAL STEERING LOSS AND HIT A GUIDE RAIL CAUSING DRIVER FRONT FENDER DAMAGE. AFTER SEVERAL RECALL REPAIRS, VEHICLE STILL RECREATES SAME DANGEROUS FAILING STEERING SITUATION ! MY FAMILY IS SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ANYMORE, ITS AN ACCIDENT JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN, OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THIS IS A TOTAL COLUMN PROBLEM IN THESE 2006 MALIBU'S, NOT JUST SENSORS, SWITCHES, ETC. THESE STEERING COLUMNS NEED REPLACED. ACCIDENTS ARE INEVITABLE IF NOT ADDRESSED TOTALLY.
