TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED EMPTY. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE FUEL WARNING LIGHTS CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE - GAS HAND DOWNS AND LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON AND EVENTUALLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. THIS WAS REPAIRED IN 01/2010. AS OF JULY 2014 THIS ISSUE HAS REOCCURRED. THIS IS A ISSUE WHICH I FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FILED.

GAUGE WILL INTERMITTENTLY WORK IN A FEW SPOTS, UNTIL TANK HITS ABOUT 1/4 TANK, WHERE IT FOLLOWS GOOD TO EMPTY. OBDII CODE P0463 "FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT" CAR RUNS FINE BESIDES THIS. I HAVE BEEN RESETTING MY TRIP ODOMETER ON EVERY FILLUP & REFILLING TANK AT 250 TO 300 MILES EVERY TIME SINCE. I AM NOT ABOUT TO PAY HIGH $$$ TO HAVE THIS FIXED NOW. JUST GOT A LETTER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY 2006 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER, & CHEVY WILL REPAIR IT NOW FOR FREE. HAVE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FOR THIS ON THE 2007 MALIBU, BUT CHEVY ISN'T COVERING IT. HAVE 103,000 MILES ON IT NOW, I WILL WAIT UNTIL THE FUEL PUMP GOES OUT OR CHEVY DECIDES TO REPAIR IT FOR FREE BEFORE I GET IT FIXED. EVERY TIME I FILL MY GAS TANK, MY GAUGE STARTS DROPPING TO EMPTY, I GET LOW FUEL WARNING AND THEN IT WILL GO BACK UP TO FULL AGAIN. THIS CHANGE HAPPENS REPEATEDLY WHILE DRIVING. NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. CAR SEEMS TO BE OPERATING FINE OTHERWISE. THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR HAS BEEN ERRATIC AND GOES FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT GOES ON. ADDITIONALLY, THIS TRIGGERS THE COMPUTER AND THE CHECK ENGINE SYMBOL APPEARS. IT ALSO DENOTES A FAILURE FOR THE EMISSIONS TEST IN MARYLAND EVEN THOUGH IT HAS NO EMISSIONS PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT TRIED USING FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER, BUT IT DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER OR A MECHANIC. AT APPROXIMATELY 79K MILES THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED TO GO TO MINIMUM LEVEL, WITH THE FUEL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT, AND THEN BACK TO THE ACTUAL LEVEL. ONCE IT STARTED HAPPENING IT INCREASED IN FREQUENCY, BUT WITH NO REAL PATTERN. AFTER 3 OR 4 OCCURRENCES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CODE P0463 "FUEL LEVEL SENSOR A CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT". SINCE THEN EVERY TIME I CLEAR IT COMES BACK ON WITH THE FIRST OCCURRENCE. AS AN INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN, AND AN ELECTRICIAN, THIS TELLS ME THERE IS A HIGHER THAN EXPECTED CURRENT, THAT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A SPARK OR A FIRE, IN A DEVICE THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE FUEL TANK. DASH -CHECK ENGINE (ALWAYS ON) & LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT (WHENEVER GAUGE DROPS TO EMPTY ONLY), EMPTY OR ERRONEOUSLY LOW GAUGE INDICATION (MOSTLY WHEN RISING FROM EMPTY) OBC -LOW FUEL WARNING IN DISPLAY MODE, FUEL RANGE MODE CAN DISPLAY EITHER LOW FUEL OR ERRONEOUSLY LOW INDICATIONS OF RANGE. OCCURRENCE FREQUENCY INCREASES AS TEMPERATURE DECREASES, GAUGE INDICATION DEVIATION INCREASES AS TEMPERATURE DECREASES. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE FUEL LEVEL INFORMATION IS ALSO USED FOR MISFIRE AND EVAPORATIVE EMISSION (EVAP) DIAGNOSTICS AS WELL AS OTHER FUNCTIONS. LOCAL DEALER HAS RESET THE FAULT CODE TWICE. WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONSTANTLY LIT THE OPERATOR WILL NOT KNOW THERE IS THE NEED FOR SERVICE OR INSPECTION. DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, ERRONEOUS INDICATION AND, OR CONSTANT LOW FUEL WARNING COULD CAUSE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL AND BEING STRANDED IN PERILOUS CONDITIONS. I HAVE OWNED 20+ OLDER VEHICLES IN MY 36 YEARS OF AUTOMOBILE OWNERSHIP AND THIS IS THE FIRST I HAVE EVER SEEN THIS. THIS VEHICLE, THE YOUNGEST I HAVE EVER PURCHASED WAS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD WHEN IT STARTED THIS ISSUE. I HAVE USED FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER, GAS DRY, FUEL SYSTEM INJECTOR CLEANER WITH NO CHANGE. MY 2007 MALIBU LT BEGAN HAVING DIFFICULTIES INTERMITTENTLY WITH THE GAS GAUGE DROPPING TO EMPTY AFTER FILLING IT UP. THIS CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ALSO COME ON. INITIALLY THIS WOULD CLEAR UP AFTER ABOUT 100 MILES, THEN IT TOOK A QUARTER TANK, THEN HALF A TANK AND NOW REQUIRES THE GAS TO BE SLIGHTLY BELOW A QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS (HAVING USED THREE QUARTERS) BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES OUT. MY REMOTE STARTER WILL NOT WORK WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. LIVING IN NORTHERN NY THIS IS AN INCONVENIENCE. MY CAR FOR THE LAST YEAR OR SO HAS SAID THAT MY FUEL TANK IS EMPTY, EVEN RIGHT AFTER I FILL IT UP. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY AUTO ZONE THAT IT'S MY FUEL SENSOR IN THE FUEL TANK THAT IS BROKEN, THAT'S WHY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND MY GAUGE IS ALWAYS ON EMPTY. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY CAR AND THAT IT WOULD BE AT LEAST 400 TO FIX NOT INCLUDING LABOR. I'VE LOOKED AT ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND THE MAJORITY OF THEM ARE DEALING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I HAVE. I'M NOT MADE OUT OF MONEY AND I'M WORRIED THAT ONE DAY I MIGHT RUN OUT OF GAS OR SOMETHING COULD HAPPEN. I USUALLY ALWAYS HAVE MY TODDLER IN THE CAR WITH ME AND IF I HAD THE MONEY FOR A NEW CAR, THIS WOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM. MY CAR FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL GAUGE GOING UP AND DOWN AS I DRIVE THE DIAGNOSIS SAYS THAT IT IS THE FUEL SENSOR AND WAS TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THERE IS A RECALL APPARENTLY I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH A 2007 MALIBU THAT I HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOING ON AND THE GAS GAUGE GOES UP AND DOWN AS I DRIVE. IT I FRUSTRATING BECAUSE IT STARTED OF WHEN I GO TO A QUARTER OF A TANK THE GAUGE WOULD DROP AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO ON. TEN IT WOULD PROGRESSIVELY GET WORST, STARTEDAT A HALF A TANK AND TEN TO TREE QUARTERS OF A TANK AND NOW WHEN I FILL UP IT STILL FLUCTUATES AS I DRIVE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS UNSAFE FOR MY SMALL CHILDREN TO BE DRIVING AROUND IN BECAUSE I CA BE STUCK SOMETHING COULD HAPPEN WIT A FUEL LINE AND A FIRE CAN BE CAUSED I WOULD REALLY LIKE A NOTICE ON THE RECALL SO I CAN BE REIMBURSED FOR MY TROUBLES AND MONEY TO HAVE THIS REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS FAULTY AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REFUEL THE VEHICLE, THE GAS GAUGE WOULD GO TO ZERO AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NORMAL OPERATION WOULD RESUME AFTER THE TANK WAS HALF EMPTY. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS TO THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000. UPDATED 05/26/11 *BF

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD NOT PROVIDE AN ACCURATE FUEL LEVEL READING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC AND AFTER INSPECTION THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A FUEL SENSOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,455. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

FOR MORE THAN TWO MONTHS NOW, SINCE JUNE 10, 2011, MY GAS GAUGE KEEPS JUMPING UP AND DOWN, AND CAN REMAIN TO THE "EMPTY" OR "0" SIGN FOR MORE THAN A HUNDRED MILES. THEN I RECEIVE MESSAGES THAT MY GAS TANK IS EMPTY EVEN WHEN IT IS FULL. THIS OCCURS AT THE MOMENT WHEN I ADD GASOLINE IN THE TANK OR FILL OUT THE TANK. THEN, SINCE JUNE 17, THE EMPTY SIGN HAS BEEN ACCOMPANIED BY THE ALERT ENGINE SIGN. UNTIL THE END OF JULY, THE TWO ALERTS WOULD ROUTINELY DISAPPEAR AFTER I HAVE DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 100 MILES OR AFTER A DAY OR TWO DAYS. BUT FOR MORE THAN THREE WEEKS NOW, THE TWO ALERTS CAN STAY FOR A WEEK AND BEYOND 100 MILES. BUT THEY WOULD EVENTUALLY DISAPPEAR AND WOULD REAPPEAR ONCE I PUT NEW GASOLINE IN THE CAR OR FILL OUT THE TANK. ON AUGUST 18, 2011, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT IS WAS THE FAILURE OF THE GAS TANK SENSOR. SAYING THAT THE GAS TANK WILL NEED TO BE TAKEN OUT TO INSTALL A NEW SENSOR. WHEN I WENT TO GOOGLE FOR GET ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE FOR MALIBU 2007, I FOUND OUT THAT OTHER PEOPLE WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2007 MALIBU. I CALLED CHEVROLET ASKING IF MALIBU 2007 HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL CAN ONLY BE ISSUED BY THE NHTSA. THAT'S WHY I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT.

IN ORDER TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS WOULD REQUIRE A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE SENDING UNIT ALL SENSORS AS THE COMMON CAUSE OF THIS IS CORROSION IF THE FLOAT BY THE GAS, THE DEALER SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
