The steering wheel start shaking and then on the middle console it showed “POWER STEERING”. Now whenever I drive it it’ll pop up and the steering wheel locks up and it is scary because it doesn’t move. And when I turn of the car it’ll unlock but as soon as I start driving it again it does it again.

I bought the car and the next day it randomly locked up my steering in the middle of traffic. If I turn my car off then turn it on while jerking the wheel side to side it will allow me power steering for just a short moment. Once it worked for a month continuously without shutting off on me then it randomly started locking up again. There’s no symptoms or warning except for the car steers on its own while in park. The wheel moves and makes a screeching noise. It’s locked up on me in traffic numerous times. It’s a huge hazard. Trying to get off the street when it locks up is just a safety hazard for everyone around.

I was driving in the country and my vehicle power steering and electronic setting started messing up while I was driving 50 miles an hour while it was locking up I was confused and then pulled over and thought it was just a glitch in the computer system I then turned off my car and then turned it back on and everything seemed fine while I was driving after a minute the steering wheel locked again and there was a deer in front of me my insurance went up because of this incident and I lost my car for a month once I got my car again from the body shop it stopped locking up on the steering wheel then last Friday I brought it to the mechanic and he told me the steering is electronic so there is nothing he can do and that I will have to take it to a dealer the computer system in these cars are messed up and they are dangerous to drive there are thousands of complaints just like this and recalls for GM but for some reason the 2007 Chevy Malibu didn't make the cut.

I FIRST ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. MY VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE MESSAGE 'POWER STEERING' CAME ON THE DASHBOARD AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING ASSIST. I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED UP THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE SO I WAS HOPEFUL ABOUT THE SITUATION. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A SUPPOSED 'WARRANTY' FOR MY VEHICLE AND I WAS OUT OF THE MILEAGE & TIME PERIOD FOR MY VEHICLE. AND ADDITIONALLY THE RECALL WAS NEVER GIVEN TO MY VEHICLE. IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO ME THAT THERE IS A SPECIFIC RECALL FOR THIS MODEL OF CHEVY MALIBU'S AND I OWN ONE AND MY CAR JUST SO HAPPENS TO NOT HAVE THE RECALL. I'VE CALLED CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY INSIST THEY ARE NOT LIABLE FOR THIS AND IT WILL BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. MY POWER STEERING HAS CUT OUT ON ME ON THE HIGHWAY AND POSES A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING EXPERIENCE. I WOULD LIKE TO SETTLE THIS BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. THE PHOTO THAT I'VE LISTED BELOW IS AN INVOICE FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THEY DIAGNOASED MY CAR AND SAID IT WOULD BE OUT OF POCKET.

WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ONE EVENING, MY CAR MADE AN ALARMING CHIMING NOISE TO SIGNAL ME THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. I THEN SAW THE WORDS "POWER STEERING" APPEAR ON MY DISPLAY. AT THAT VERY MOMENT MY STEERING WHEEL FROZE UP TO WHERE I BASICALLY COULD NOT MOVE IT ANY MORE. I COULD NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT, WHICH FORCED ME TO KEEP STRAIGHT. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND HAD TO KEEP GOING UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO MAKE A STOP, TURN MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON, THEN IT ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE HOME. FROM THAT POINT ON, MY STEERING WHEEL ITSELF HAS BEGAN TO TWIST AND TURN BACK AND FORTH WHILE VIBRATING, WITH NO ASSISTANCE FROM ME, AND IT DOES THIS ALL WHILE I'M DRIVING. I'M FORCED TO BASICALLY HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL WITH A TIGHT GRIP TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT. SINCE THAT DAY, MY POWER STEERING HAS WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ABOUT 4 OR 5 TIMES, AND MORE THAN THAT IF YOU COUNT WHEN I FIRST START IT UP IN THE MORNING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO EXPRESS MY CONCERN IN WHICH THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY SERVICED MY VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM ON 11/26/16... WHICH WAS A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO, SO I AM NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN, DUE TO A POSTCARD I RECEIVED ABOUT A FEW RECALLS, I WAS NOT HAVING ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING WHAT SO EVER. I AM ABOUT 3 MONTHS SHORT OF A YEAR AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND IF THIS PROBLEM WAS FIXED PROPERLY, HOW IT WOULD BECOME A PROBLEM FOR ME SO QUICK! I HAVE 2 CHILDREN I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR AND I RELY HEAVILY ON MY VEHICLE. FROM READING ONLINE, THIS IS A SERIOUS, COMMON, AND VERY WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM. AS STATED BEFORE, AT THE TIME THEY SAY THAT THEY SERVICED IT, IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE FOR ME. SO IS IT COMMON FOR THIS TYPE OF WORK TO GO BAD WITHIN A YEAR? I REALLY NEED MY CAR AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY THE HIGH COST FOR THIS REPAIR, BUT MOST IMPORTANT I CAN NOT RISK DRIVING MY CHILDREN AROUND IN A VEHICLE THAT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE. I NEED HELP

POWER LOCKS DOESN'T WORK. WINDOWS GOES DOWN SOMETIMES IF THE DRIVER DOOR IS OPEN AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. STEERING WHEEL FIRST BEGUN TO SHAKE BY ITSELF AND TURN WHICHEVER DIRECTION THEN EVENTUALLY LOCKED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING! CAN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IN ANY DIRECTION AT ALL.

WE BOUGHT MY CAR FROM A POLICE AUCTION IN SAND SPRINGS. THERE WAS NOT REALLY ANY PAPERWORK, SO WE HAD NOTHING TO GO ON, BUT WHAT THE AUCTIONEER TOLD US. WE FOUND OUT THAT THE GAS GAGE WILL NOT READ ANY FUEL IT JUST STAYS ON E, AND THAT IS 600.00 TO FIX, AND THEN ABOUT 4 MONTHS NOW THE POWER STEERING WILL JUST GO OUT AND YOU CAN NOT STEER AT ALL. IF YOU ARE A MAN YOU CAN TURN IT, BUT IF YOU ARE A WOMAN OR YOUNG TEEN THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN MAKE A CORNER, AND YOU WILL GET IN AN ACCIDENT. YOU ARE UNAWARE WHEN IT WILL JUST HAPPENED, BUT A BELL IN THE CAR DOES START RINGING, AND READING POWER STEERING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE RECALL NUMBER 14V153000, BUT MY YEAR IS NOT ON IT. PLEASE MAKE IT A RECALL FOR 2007 ALSO. THEY TOLD ME THAT WILL COST 1,000.00 TO FIX THE POWER STEERING. REALLY...IF YOU CAN HELP IN ANYWAY I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

MY VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, MAKING IT VERY HARD TO STEER THE VEHICLE LEFT OR RIGHT, AND A MESSAGE WENT ACROSS MY SCREEN READING "POWER STEERING". WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL IS NOT LOCKED UP, IT CONTINUOUSLY JUMPS IN MY HANDS. I AM PRETTY SURE THIS IS ALL DUE TO THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GIVING OUT, JUST LIKE IN THE RECALLS GIVEN FOR THE OTHER CHEVROLET MALIBUS, UNFORTUNATELY, MY 2007 WAS ONE OF THE MODELS LEFT OUT OF THIS RECALL, WHEN I AM POSITIVE IT HAS THE SAME DEFECT AS THE OTHERS RECALLED. THE DESCRIPTION OF WHAT HAPPENS IN THESE SITUATIONS MATCHES MINE TO THE TEE. THE RISKS ARE THE SAME AS WELL, I AM IN JUST AS MUCH DANGER AS THOSE OTHERS DRIVING THAT DID GET RECALLS. THE DIFFICULTY STEERING MAKES IT HARD TO SWERVE OUT OF THE WAY WHEN IN AN EMERGENCY, AS EVERY TURN REQUIRES A LOT OF MUSCLE. I PURCHASE THIS CAR IN 2009 IN 2010 I WAS DRIVING AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP AND THEN THERE WAS A DISPLAY ON THE RADIO POWER STEERING I DID NOT HAVE ANY POWER STEERING. SO I TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO SEE WHAT GOING ON AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A POWER STEERING MOTOR AND SHAFT ON STEERING COLUMN WORN SO I ASK IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS AND THEY SAID NO NOT ON YOUR CAR.OK SO I PAID 801.99 TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED SO IN DEC,2014 I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND THE SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP IT WAS HARD FOR ME TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE LANE BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD JERK AND TO TURN WAS VERY HARD SO I CALLED GM CORPORATE OFFICE TO FILE A COMPLAINT ARE TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL. ONLY ON 04,05,06,08,09 BUT NOT THE 2007.BUT WHEN I GOOGLE POWER STEERING ON THE MALIBU ALL THESE CARS HAD DONE THE SAME AS MINE BUT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR 07 MALIBU. SO CORPORATE TELLS ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO GET DIAGNOSES AND NOW ITS THE TORQUE SENSOR WHICH IS STILL IN THE STEERING COLUMN GM CANT PAY FOR IT BECAUSE IT A DIFFERENT CODE THEN THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPEN I THINK IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON 2007 MALIBU POWER STEERING AND TORQUE SENSOR. *TR

IT'S HAPPENED 3 TIMES, DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS THE STEERING LOCKS UP. FIRST TIME I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND THE CAR INSTANTLY LOCKED UP. THE TIRE HIT THE POTHOLE AND BROKE THE HUB CAP. THE CONSUMER PULLED A MUSCLE IN THE RIGHT ARM. THE CONSUMER DID SEEK CARE WITH A PHYSICIAN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY FAILED TO RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN MOTOR AND SENSOR SEVERAL TIMES, HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

MY STEERING WHEEL PULSATE WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE IT. MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP WHILE I AM DRIVING. I HAVE TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON IN ORDER TO HAVE POWER STEERING. I HAVE SPENT MONEY FOR ROTORS RESURFACED, ALIGNMENT, AND TIE RODS. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THIS SITUATION CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALER WHERE I WAS INFORMED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. RANDOMLY LOSING POWER STEERING. HAPPENED ONCE BRIEFLY IN AUGUST 2013. TOOK IT FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS INCIDENT AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. STARTED HAPPENING ON 12/7/13 AND HASN'T STOPPED. I HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC ON 12/10/13 WHO DISASSEMBLED THE STEERING COLUMN/DASHBOARD, ETC. AND WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING IS WRONG. ON 12/16/13, IT WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, WHO TEST DROVE IT AND RAN ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND ONCE AGAIN TOLD ME NOTHING IS WRONG AND TO PICK UP MY CAR. SINCE THEN, I HAVE BEEN RANDOMLY LOSING THE POWER ALMOST DAILY TO MULTIPLE TIMES DAILY. I COMMUTE APPROX. 30 MILES TO AND FROM WORK AND HAVE HAD TO DRIVE WITH NO POWER STEERING AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED. TO MAKE IT WORSE, THE WEATHER HAS BEEN VERY BAD THE PAST WEEK SO I HAVE BEEN A NERVOUS WRECK NOT KNOWING WHEN THE POWER STEERING IS GOING TO GO OUT. WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, BOTH MY AIRBAG AND DOOR AJAR WARNINGS HAVE COME ON RANDOMLY WHEN I HAVE NO DOOR AJAR. I WASN'T AS CONCERNED SINCE THEY ARE NOT AN IMMEDIATE DANGER. WHEN I LOSE POWER STEERING THE CAR DOES "DING" AND "POWER STEERING" FLASHES ON MY AUDIO SYSTEM. IF I AM ABLE TO(NOT ON THE FREEWAY)THEN I PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON. SOMETIMES THIS CORRECTS THE PROBLEM AND SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT. SOMETIMES IT WILL GO AWHILE WITHOUT THIS HAPPENING AND SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES IN A ROW. I AM PLANNING ON TAKING IT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP THIS WEEKEND AND HOPING I DON'T GET INTO AN ACCIDENT IN THE MEANTIME. WHEN I JUST SPOKE TO THE DEALERSHIP THE GENTLEMAN ON THE PHONE SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND HE KNOWS THERE ARE SOME RECALLS. FROM WHAT I CAN SEE THERE ARE RECALLS ON EVERY YEAR SURROUNDING MINE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I HOPE THE DEALERSHIP IS ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND I DON'T END UP SPENDING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AND THIS IS STILL GOING TO HAPPEN. *TR
