Vehicle: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country Engine: 6.2L L87 V8 Recall: N252494001 – L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion I am submitting this complaint to report a serious safety defect involving my 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country related to NHTSA Safety Recall N252494001 (L87 Engine – Loss of Propulsion). My vehicle experienced a sudden engine failure consistent with the conditions described in the recall, resulting in loss of propulsion. Due to this failure, General Motors authorized a full engine replacement at an authorized GMC dealership. After the engine replacement was completed, the replacement engine also failed in the same manner as the original engine, again resulting in loss of propulsion. This second failure occurred despite the vehicle being repaired according to General Motors’ recall procedures and specifications. Loss of propulsion creates a significant safety risk, especially while driving at highway speeds or in traffic, as it can lead to sudden power loss without warning and increases the risk of a crash. Despite the replacement engine failing in the same way as the original recalled engine, General Motors is now refusing to replace the second failed engine or provide a permanent remedy. As a result, my vehicle remains unsafe to operate and unresolved under the existing safety recall. I am concerned that the recall remedy is inadequate and that replacement engines may also contain the same defect, creating an ongoing safety hazard. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter to determine whether the recall repair is effective and whether additional corrective action is necessary to protect vehicle owners.

After taking in to dealer for recall diagnostics and higher viscosity oil change a couple months later. Heard a noise while driving on interstate, lost cruise control, stability system, engine light came on with a ECS. Kept driving on the interstate until we got to a red light and the engine died. Cranked starter but hard to start and ran rough and died multiple times. Feathered throttle to get over 1K RPMs to get it off the street. Towed to nearest Chev dealer. P300 code. Tore engine down. Here is what dealer documented: CUSTOMER STATES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON WITH SERVICE TRACTION & SERVICE ESC MESSAGES. ENGINE IS RUNNING ROUGH AND WILL STALL. TOW IN. Valve Spring Replacement - Replacing the faulty valve spring on the cylinder 7 exhaust side is necessary as it is causing the exhaust valve to remain stuckopen, leading to engine misfire and over 80% leakage in that cylinder. This service can help restore proper engine compression and improve engine performance. Op.1 CEL -CEL: Customer states 1. replaced the exhaust valve spring and valve spring seal. reinstalled components with new seals and cleared dtcs. started engine and verified the engine starts and runs but having multiple cylinder misfires. reset engine fuel trims and brought engine to operating temperature and let it run for some time. other cylinder misfires went away but still found a dead misfire on cylinder 7. removed and swapped spark plugs with no change. noted the spark plugs have some exhaust build up on the tip due to the faulty exhaust valve spring. performed a static compression test and found the compression to be 175 psi and a running compression test with a smooth build up to 125 psi. checked spark and spark was good. tested the injector system using the AFIT test and found the test to pass indicating no faults with the fuel injectors. performed a cylinder leak down test and found no cylinder leakage coming from cylinder 7. put engine back together and cleared dtcs. reset the throttle

GM replaced engine after a complete failure associated with a defective engine recall. The remanufactured or new engine installed seems to have a similar defect as the original engine. Returned vehicle for service and was told GM refused to repair or replace the engine until the vehicle suffered another complete engine failure. Regardless of any safety concerns of an another complete engine failure.

Now my truck is in the shop I'm suppose to be getting a replacement engine. I'm not sure if I can trust the replacement engine im getting.

In May 2025, we received notice that my truck was involved in GM Safety Recall N252494000. In July 2025, a fuel consumption test was performed because the vehicle showed low oil pressure and was 2-1/2 quarts low. Chevolet indicated "consuming oil" was normal; however, I have owned trucks for 25 years and have never "consumed oil". In October 2025, we received notice that we could finally schedule the engine inspection at a Chevrolet Dealer of our choice. We scheduled this appointment for Monday, November 17th, 2025. The Picoscope Inspection was performed and the engine passed. They installed new higher viscosity oil, new oil fill cap and insert; but they note that the vehicle had no oil on the dipstick and would like to have another consumption test performed in 2000 miles. The next day, Tuesday, November 18th, 2025, the engine failed. The initial diagnosis was a continuous misfire of cylinder #3 requiring a Valve Lifter Replacement on Left Side. Upon completion of this work, they identified additional issues including spun crankshaft thrust bearing and damage crankshaft journal requiring replacement of the 6.2L engine. The engine failure occured the day after the proposed recall "fix" indicating that the picoscope test and higher viscosity oil is not an effective remedy. I brought up concerns about the consumption of oil multiple times with the Chevy Dealer multiple times and the response is "oil consumption" is considered normal with this engine. Not having my vehicle created significant hardships as I work in construction. I did not have a toneau cover to secure my tools, I did not have the ability to use my toll pass on the highway, I could load construction materials into the rental vehicle, and I had to switch between 4 different rental vehicles during the course of the 65-Day Repair!

I have a 2024 Silverado with the L87 (6.2) engine. I brought in in for recall. After inspection the Chevrolet Service Center said it was good. They changed the oils to 0-W40 per the recall. On January 8, 2026 I was driving at 35 mph and the engine just stopped. I had it towed back to the Chevrolet Service Center and after diagnosis it was determined that the engine failed and has to be replaced which take a month or more.

I was driving on [XXX] leaving from Onawa, IA. Up to this point I had not issue or notifications about my vehicle. While driving North bout and having the adaptive cruise control set at 80 MPH, I was in the left lane passing 3 semis in the right lane. After passing the first one, the first semi merged to the left lane following. I was approximately 1/2 passed the next semi when all the sudden my cruise started to slow down. It went from 80 to 78 back to 80, then 80 back to 77 to 80. Suddenly and with no warning the engine completely shut down and I went from 80 - 0 is approx. 100 feet. The semi behind me sounded their horn loudly as they almost hit my rear end before merging over. I had no time to go over to the right shoulder and had to go to the left where the vehicle would not move. I could not move the vehicle off the shoulder as it would not shift to natural. Law enforcement was notified as the safety of the vehicle on the left side of the interstate caused safety issues. Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am writing to formally report a serious safety issue with my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with the 6.2-liter engine. At the time of the incident, my truck had only 17,000 miles on it and had received the two necessary oil changes as recommended. On Thursday, [XXX] while driving northbound on [XXX] in Houston, Texas, my truck unexpectedly lost power while in motion. Fortunately, I was in one of the right lanes and was able to push it to the side, but not before nearly being struck by another vehicle. Several cars had to swerve to avoid my disabled truck, and I truly believe that I could have been seriously injured or worse due to this mechanical failure. After having my truck towed to the dealership, I was informed that the engine had completely locked up and needed a full replacement. However, despite my immediate action to get the issue resolved, I have now been without a vehicle since [XXX], and as of today, March 10, 2025, there is still no replacement engine available. I have been told that the 6.2-liter engines are on backorder for 5 to 6 months because this issue is happening to so many vehicles. This raises serious concerns: If so many of these engines are failing, why has there been no recall issued? How is it acceptable for GMC to sell vehicles with a known defect that can lead to life-threatening situations on the road? Why am I still paying a $1,300 monthly car note for a vehicle I have not been able to drive in over three months? This is not just a case of vehicle reliability; this is a severe safety hazard. My truck failed suddenly in moving traffic, and based on the widespread engine failures, it appears that this could happen to many other drivers as well, potentially leading to catastrophic accidents. I urge the NHTSA to investigate these engine failures immediately and take appropriate action, including issuing a recall if warranted. I would appreciate an update on INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I know there is an active recall for 2021 to 2024 L87 6.2L engines, but the recall did not show up on my vin. everything i read states that any L87 produced after June of 2024 was not affected but my engine is damaged just like the ones in the recall.
