I bought the car used from a Ford Dealer in October 2024. The car had a clean CARFAX and solid maintenance history and just under 40,000 miles at time of purchase. In December 2024, there were several instances of rough idle at time of cold start that quickly cleared. In January 2025, it stopped blowing heat. My local garage found it was low on coolant but could not identify a leak. A few more days of driving showed continued loss of coolant. I brought it back to dealer I bought it from and their service department confirmed there was coolant in the engine cylinders and a full engine replacement was needed - a condition consistent with Ford's Technical Service Briefing issued in 2019. Ford customer service is unwilling to support the cost of that repair due to the age of the vehicle. Ford has admitted that there was a manufacturing defect in some of their engine line across models. They issued a recall for certain models with this issue, but not for my vehicle. It is insane to me that a car manufacturer, who acknowledges a mistake in production of their engines won't stand behind a vehicle with less than 45,000 miles on the engine.

2017 Ford Edge Titanium (VIN: [XXX] ) suffered catastrophic engine failure at 81,571 miles in September 2025 due to coolant intrusion into cylinders caused by cracked intake manifold - a known Ford manufacturing defect. Total repair cost: $9,034.66 for complete long-block engine replacement at Crain Buick GMC, Conway, AR. KNOWN DEFECT: Ford documented this problem in TSBs 19-2208, 19-2346, and 22-2229 (dated 2019-2022) affecting 2015-2018 Edge with 2.0L EcoBoost engines. Design flaw in engine block sealing surface allows coolant to leak into cylinders, causing misfires, white smoke, and complete engine failure. Ford redesigned engine for later models, confirming the defect. FORD PROVIDED ASSISTANCE FOR IDENTICAL DEFECT IN OTHER ENGINES: Ford issued Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12 providing 7 years/84,000 miles no-cost repairs for 1.5L engines with identical coolant intrusion problem, but provided NO assistance for 2.0L engines. TIMING: My warranty expired February 2025. Engine failed September 2025 (only 7 months later) at 81,571 miles due to Ford's manufacturing defect, not wear and tear. I received no notification from Ford despite their documented knowledge since 2019. SAFETY RISKS: Engine fire risk, sudden loss of power while driving, potential loss of vehicle control, stranding in dangerous locations. WIDESPREAD PROBLEM: Service shops report multiple Edge vehicles per week with identical failure. Hundreds of documented cases online. Ford only issues TSBs for systematic problems affecting numerous vehicles. SMITH FORD DEALER CONWAY, AR DECLINED TO HELP: Despite knowing this is a documented Ford defect covered by TSBs. REQUEST: NHTSA investigate and mandate safety recall for 2015-2018 Ford Edge 2.0L EcoBoost engines. Require Ford to notify owners, provide no-cost repairs, and reimburse customers who already paid. This defect affects thousands of vehicles and has cost owners $6,000-$10,000+ each for Ford's design flaw. SEE INVOICE REPAIR: $9034.66 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Bought my car used with 100000 miles. Was maintained of every 3000 miles by a ford dealer before i bought it. When i got it and as i was driving home there was a check engine light that popped up for a misfire in cylinder 3 (p0303) and no coolant in the reservoir. I topped up the coolant and since then ive had to refill my coolant ever 3 or 4 days. Its going back to the dealership i got it from on hoping the warranty they provided covers the work.

Vehicle went in for check engine light, no issues with how the car runs, low coolant. Vehicle was pressure tested and we were told there was a crack in the cylinder and that the engine would need to be completely replaced. This will cost upwards of 10k. Per my research this is a known ticket and huge defect that Ford knows about. We asked if we could get e engine replaced under the goodwill repair program through ford and we were denied there as well.

Started the engine of my 2017 Ford Edge and it sounded different. It ran rougher then usual. Stated to my passengers that the car was not sounding right. Shortly there after on the highway at 55mph, the check engine light came on. The car continued to run rough that night. The next day when I started it, the check engine light was still on and I called the Ford dealer for a service appt. At the appt they informed my husband that my 2017 Ford Edge needed a new engine because coolant was leaking into cylinder. Told us we had 10000 miles before we must replace the engine. Appx cost $6000-$7000 Just 2 weeks before while having the oil changed and new brakes installed (because the check brake light came on), they had informed me that the water pump had a tiny leak that I might want to fix but to keep an eye on the temp gauge and carry some coolant until it got fixed. Appx cost $600-$700. Did not fix. Then check engine light came on. Have not fixed engine. Only 98700 miles.

Bought this car, 100,000 miles on it, and 2 days after My check engine light comes on and coil 2 is misfiring, i get new coils and plugs, and 3 hours later it starts it again, I end up taking it to my local ford dealership and they discovered I need a new engine due to a crack in my long block and coolant getting in coil 2...I just brought a car that needs 8000 dollars of work done. I wish I knew what to do. This has been awful. Sometimes it decides to misfire at red lights or even driving down the road, ford should fix this issue

The check engine light turned on. It was diagnosed at Auto Zone as 'cylinder 2 not firing correctly' and the possibility of a bad sparkplug. At the Ford dealership (2 days later), it was diagnosed as a 'coolant intrusion'; leaking coolant into the engine. The engine currently works but the leak will cause engine failure. The Ford dealership service agent told me that this model Edge as well as the Escort with the same engine has had this same issue repeatedly. The engine has less than 70,000 miles and is no longer under warranty. Through researching this issue on my own, many people (especially on Reddit) have identified the same issue with these Ford cars ranging from 60,000-70,000 miles. The dealership is offering $2,000 check/buy back or a replacement of an engine at a value of $8, 350.

common engine failure on the 2.0l of cylinder cracking allowing coolant to leak into engine and misfire. Engine filled with coolant and wrecked the motor. Ford has done multiple engine swaps costing customers $8,000 for a defective block they changed in the newer years. I feel we should not pay for their mistake!
