TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,210. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
IN SEPTEMBER OF 2012, I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE COMPLETELY GONE WHEN I WAS GOING 40 MPH IN A CROWDED INTERSECTION. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I GOT INTO A RITE AID PARKING LOT AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP (MY VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY). THEY TOLD ME TO TRY TO RESTART IT AND SEE IF THE WRENCH LIGHT TURNED OFF. IT DID NOT AND I COULD NOT RESTART THE CAR, SO I HAD IT TOWED IN. THEY TOLD ME THE BATTERY HAD DIED AND ONCE IT WAS REPLACED THEY COULDN'T RECREATE THE THROTTLE ISSUE SO THEY COULDN'T FIX THAT PER MY WARRANTY. THEN 3 WEEKS AGO, I GOT OFF THE EXPRESSWAY. AND ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER THE CAR DID THE SAME THING. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE THERE ARE NO PLACES TO PULL OFF THIS PARTICULAR ROAD AND THE SPEED LIMIT IS HIGH. I GOT HALF IN AND HALF OUT OF THE LANE AND RESTARTED IT. I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK HOME AND I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND APPARENTLY ARE WILLING TO FIX IT WITHOUT THE WRENCH LIGHT NOW BECAUSE I AM NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY (65000); HOWEVER THE PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THIS SAME "NATIONAL BACKORDER PROBLEM" OCCURRED TWO YEARS AGO WHEN MY TRANSMISSION IN THE SAME CAR QUIT WORKING AND I WAS IN A RENTAL CAR FOR 7 WEEKS! THE PROBLEM HAS RECURRED 3 TIMES NOW, AND THEY HAVE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT STILL NO SIGNS OF A PART. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND I THINK FORD NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE INABILITY TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. *TR
FALL OF 2011, I NOTICED THAT MY GAS PEDAL WAS NOT ALWAYS RESPONSIVE. COMING OFF A STOP OR LOW SPEEDS, THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT RESPOND UNTIL AFTER I HAD PUMPED IT AND PRESSED IT NEARLY TO THE FLOOR, THEN MY ESCAPE WOULD TAKE OFF, SQUEALING TIRES AND ALL. I NOTICED IT A COUPLE TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY AS WELL, SLOWING FOR A CURVE AND THEN UNABLE TO PROMPTLY ACCELERATE COMING OUT OF THE CURVE. THEN ONE DAY I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE GAS PEDAL WAS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE, AND MY CAR JUST COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THIS WAS REALLY BOTHERING ME BECAUSE THERE WERE MULTIPLE TIMES I FELT LIKE I WAS GOING TO GET HIT WHEN I COULDN'T ACCELERATE OUT OF AN INTERSECTION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO HASTINGS FORD, AND AFTER MULTIPLE APPOINTMENTS AND KEEPING MY VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS, THEY WERE UNABLE TO CONFIRM OR REPAIR ANYTHING. I KEPT DRIVING IT FOR A WHILE, THE SAME ISSUES STILL HAPPENING, AND THEN AFTER THE SECOND TIME THE CAR SHUT OFF ON THE HIGHWAY, AND AFTER CONSULTING A RELATIVE WHO IS A FORMER FORD MECHANIC, I BROUGHT IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THEY KEPT THE CAR THE MAX NUMBER OF DAYS THEY WERE ALLOWED TO WITHOUT REPAIRING ANYTHING, AND FOUND ON THE LAST DAY THAT IT WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY BUT THE ISSUE STILL LINGERS. AND I ALSO FEEL A SHORT VIBRATION IN THE PEDAL NEARLY EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE FROM A SLOW OR STOP. I STILL DO NOT FEEL THE ISSUE IS FULLY RESOLVED. I STILL CONSIDER MY THROTTLE BODY TO BE DEFECTIVE.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, 45MPH ZONE, I NOTICED THE ACCELERATOR WAS HAVING NO EFFECT, HOWEVER THE TACH WAS STILL SHOWING THE ENGINE RUNNING. I COASTED OFF THE ROAD AND WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING IT WAS NOT CONNECTED TO THE TRANSMISSION. AS I DO WITH MY COMPUTER, I TURNED OFF THE CAR WAITED A SHORT WHILE AND TURNED IT BACK ON......EVERYTHING SEEMED TO WORK FINE, BUT OF COURSE I TOOK IT TO FORD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLE MALFUNCTION AND WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE SINCE THEN, THE LAST ONE BEING OUT OF WARRANTY AND COSTING ME 1000 DOLLARS. THREE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLES IN A CAR NOT 4 YRS OLD WITH STILL LESS THAN 30000 MILES ON IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. CAR STALLED WHILE MOVING 3 TIMES. ONCE WHILE IN MOTION, THE OTHER 2 RIGHT AFTER STOPS. WOULD HIT THE GAS & THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. I WOULD TURN OFF THE CAR & RESTART IT & IT WOULD RUN OK, THEN DO IT AGAIN. TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE TO HAVE THEM TELL ME WHAT CODES CAME UP & THEY SAID IT WAS THE P2111 STATING THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK ON OPEN. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER & CAN'T HAVE TAKE THIS KIND OF RISK WITH HER. ITS HAPPENED AGAIN OVER THE LAST WEEK SEVERAL TIMES. *TR

THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE THROTTLE BODY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 56,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 56,500. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN AND OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,566. I WOULD LIKE TO PREFACE THAT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEN EVERY DAY. STARTING IN JULY I HAD STARTED EXPERIENCING DROPS/SPIKES IN THE RPM'S. I WOULD BE PULLING INTO MY GARAGE AND THE TRUCK WOULD SUDDENLY LUNGE FORWARD. THANKFULLY ALREADY HAVING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE; I COULD STOP THE TRUCK BEFORE CAUSING ANY DAMAGE TO ITEMS IN THE GARAGE. THEN I STARTED TO NOTICED WHILE SITTING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS THE RPM'S WOULD DROP AND IT WOULD RUN A LITTLE RUFF FOR A SEC OR 2 THEN BALANCE BACK OUT - THIS WAS VERY RANDOM. - NEXT, WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IT STALLED COMPLETELY ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITH IN THE SAME DAY. AT FIRST WE THOUGHT MAYBE SOME BAD GAS, SO WE RAN IT ALMOST OUT AND FILLED UP WITH PREMIUM. THE TRUCK WAS THEN BETTER FOR A FEW DAYS. THE FINAL INCIDENT WAS WHEN I WAS TAKING MY SON TO SOCCER. I BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND PUT THE TRUCK INTO DRIVE, STEPPED ON THE GAS, AND IT WOULD NOT GO. THE RPM'S WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 1000. THEN THE LITTLE WRENCH CAME ON IN THE LOWER LEFT OF THE DASH. I QUICKLY PUT ON THE 4-WAYS AS I NOW WAS BLOCKING THE BUSY STREET FOR WHICH WE LIVE ON; AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP THE TRUCK INTO A NEIGHBOR'S DRIVEWAY. HAD IT TOWED UP TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE INITIAL QUOTE FROM THE DEALERSHIP - AND WE HAD PURCHASED THE EXTENDED CARE PKG WITH THE VEHICLE - YEAH SO MUCH FOR THAT. I STARTED LOOKING IT UP AND FOUND THAT FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE WERE PRODUCTION ISSUES OF THE THROTTLE BODY FOR THIS MAKE/MODEL/YR CAUSING FAULTY PARTS TO BE INSTALLED - BUT YET WILL NOT TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY, ISSUE A RECALL AND TRULY FIX THE ISSUE. AT LEAST A SERVICE ISSUE WARRANTY- ONLY IF YOU HAVE THESE ISSUES AND THE DIAGNOSES IS THE THROTTLE BODY(CODE: P2111 OR P2112) FOR THIS MAKE/MODEL/YR - IT WILL BE COVERED BY FORD. *TR

WHILE DRIVING DOWN A THE HIGHWAY(WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR), THE CAR MADE AN ODD SOUND AND THEN THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING. MY CAR DID NOT JUST STOP, IT WAS STILL DRIVING AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE, BUT I COULD NOT GIVE THE CAR GAS. ONCE I PULLED OVER AND WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR CONTINUED TO TRY AND ACCELERATE. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND IT STILL CONTINUED. I HAD TO COMPLETELY TURN THE CAR OFF FOR IT TO STOP MOVING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON US 441. OUR CAR STALLED ON THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN CHEROKEE, N.C. AND GATLINBURG, TENN. WE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, AND WERE ABLE TO RESTART IT AND CONTINUE FOR A FEW MILES BEFORE THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THIS STOP AND GO OCCURRED ABOUT 7 TIMES BEFORE WE WERE ABLE TO GET TO SEVIERVILLE, TENN TO GET IT REPAIRED. MY CONCERN IS THAT THERE ARE FEW PLACES TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN, SO IT WAS DANGEROUS FOR US AND OTHER CARS TO STOP AS WE DID. THE DEALER TOLD US THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT AND THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF FAILURE WHO FILED A REPORT AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
PETITION FOR DEFECT INVESTIGATION INTO MY 2005-2012 FORD ESCAPE VEHICLES FOR THROTTLE BODY FAILURES RESULTING IN A STALL WHILE DRIVING EVENT OR ENGINE SURGE EVENT *TGW ON OF THE COMPLAINANTS COMPLAINED OF A STUCK ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY WITH ENGINE CODES P2111; THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN AND P2222; THROTTLE BODY STUCK CLOSED. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY MECHANICAL INTERFERENCE ON THROTTLE BLADE OR ANY CARBON BUILD-UP.
THE ACCELERATOR OF THIS RENTAL CAR FAILED, AFTER ACCELERATING TO OVER 40MPH ON A HIGHWAY. IT WOULD ONLY BEGIN TO WORK AGAIN ONCE WE STOPPED AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT FAILED 5 MORE TIMES BEFORE WE WERE ABLE TO PARK IT SAFELY. *TR

A FEW MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED A 2009 FORD ESCAPE, I NOTICED MY ACCELERATOR VIBRATING UNDER MY FOOT. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS WHILE ACCELERATING MY CAR FELT LIKE IT STALLED- TO EXPLAIN I WOULD PUSH DOWN THE PEDAL AND THE CAR WOULD SOUND AS IF IT WAS REVVING UP THEN NOTHING! MY CAR WOULD STOP,NO FORWARD MOVEMENT, NO ENGINE SOUND, NOTHING FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THEN MY CAR WOULD KICK IN AND MOVE, THIS "STALLING" ALMOST GOT ME HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THEY FIXED IT. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS THIS OCCURRED AGAIN WHILE MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY AND I CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEING HIT BY A TRUCK. I TOOK THE CAR BACK WHERE THEY CLAIMED TO FIX THE CAR AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES NOW, EACH INCIDENT HAD ME JUST NEARLY GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD MY CAR IN TOTAL FOR OVER A MONTH TRYING TO FIX THIS, NOT INCLUDING NOW HAVING HAD MY CAR FOR 10 DAYS AFTER MY ALMOST GETTING HIT BY A BUS. SO FAR NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT IS THE PROBLEM- THEY HAVE RECALIBRATED THE COMPUTER, REPLACE THE PETAL TWICE AND MADE OTHER ADJUSTMENT WITHOUT A SUCCESSFUL REPAIR. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM? *TR
