ON DEC 26, 1999 I READ IN THE HARTFORD COURANT ABOUT AN INVESTIGATION ON FORD PICK-UP TRUCKS F-150 FOR THE YEARS 1990-1993 FOR FUEL TANK LEAKAGES. I HAD TO PAY $538.55 TO HAVE MY FUEL TANK REPLACED DUE TO A LEAK ON 5-24-99. WHEN I CALLED FORD TODAY, 12-27-99, THEY COULD NOT HELP ME, AND SAID MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT THE NUMBERS RECALLED. I CALLED YOUR WASHINGTON PHONE NUMBER AND THE LADY TOLD ME TO FILL OUT THIS FORM ON THE INTERNET. PLEASE ADVISE ME. I BELIEVE MY TRUCK IS AMONG THE TRUCKS YOU ARE INVESTIGATING. THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED BY WILLIAMS FORD IN WEST HTFD,, AND WE HAVE A COPY OF THE BILL IF NEEDED. PLEASE LET US KNOW THE RESULTS OF YOUR INVESTIGATION. FUEL FROM REAR FUEL TANK IS PUMPED INTO FRONT TANK, CAUSING FRONT TANK TO OVER FLOW. *AK
NHTSA RECALL # 93V125 000: FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY AND EA # 99 032: DUAL FUEL TANK CROSSFLOW/ LEAKAGE: VEHICLE EXPERIENCES A PROBLEM WITH PORTION OF THE UNUSED FUEL FROM ONE TANK RETURNED TO SECOND TANK. WHEN THIS OCCURRED THE SECOND TANK EXCEEDED, CAUSING FUEL SPILLAGE. SPILLAGE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION. ON TWO OCCASIONS, THIS INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED. FIRST TIME, REPAIRS WERE DONE UNDER WARRANTY. CURRENTLY, REOCCURRING PROBLEM IS BEING REPAIRED AT CONSUMER'S COST WITH THE SAME CHECK VALVE REPLACMENT. COULD NHTSA SHARE SOME LIGHT ON THE DEFECTIVE CHECK VALVE. *AK
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY NOTICED FUEL LEAKING, PUDDLE ON GROUND. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
EA99032, DUAL FUEL TANK CROSSFLOW/LEAKAGE; WHEN BOTH FUELTANKS ARE FILLED, THE FUEL FLOWS TO THE TANK THAT IS NOT BEING USED, CAUSING THE FUEL TO SPILL ONTO THE GROUND. DEALER KNOWS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. *AK *ML

LATER, PROBLEM REAPPEARED, WAS NOT CORRECTED PRPERLY, RETURNED TO DEALER AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT BOTH FUEL PUMPS IN TANK MALFUNCTION ED AND NEEDS REPLACING AT APPROX. $800 . CAN NHTSA PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THIS MATTE., IS DEALER STILL RESPONDSIBLE? YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER IS NEEDED. *AK
THE VEHICLE HAS TWO TANKS, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SUPPOSED TO PUMP GAS INTO THE FUEL TANK IT IS PRODUCING GAS INTO THE WRONG TANK CAUSING GAS TO OVER FLOW OUT OF THE VEHICLE. MJS

THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 93V125000 CONCERNING FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY. CONSUMER IS THE SECOND OWNER TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM. DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT IF RECALL REPAIRS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. CONSUMER WANTS MANUFACTURER TO PAY HALF. *AK

THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A DUAL VALVE GAS TANK WHICH HAS A SWITCH TO CHANGE FROM THE FRONT TANK TO THE REAR TANK. IN THE PROCESS OF SWITCHING TANKS THE FRONT TANK OVERFLOWED, CAUSING THE FUEL T SPILL OUT. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
THE WEB SITES I VISITED LISTED THIS AS A RECALL BUT FORD CLAIMS THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON THIS TRUCK.
VEHICLE EXPERIENCING ONGOING FUEL SPILLAGE DUE TO MALFUCTIONING OF CHECK VALVE WITHIN THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY, WHICH CAUSES PORTION OF FUEL FROM ONE TANK TO BE RETURNED TO THE SECOND TANK. NHTSA DOES SHOW A RECALL # 93V-125 000. MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER THAT RECALL. SEEKING HELP FROM NHTSA IN THIS MATTER. *AK
FUEL "SHOT" OUT FROM REAR FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY, PRIOR TO RECALL NOTICE (93V125). HOWEVER REPAIRS WERE NOT DONE DUE TO VIN. ALSO THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR & FUEL PUMP WERE REPLACED ON 4-12-99. *YC
FUEL TANK FILLER NECK RELEASES FUEL FROM ONE TANK TO THE OTHER WHICH CAUSES FUEL LEAKAGE TO OCCUR. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
