ON 10/10/2014 WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THROUGH AN INTERSECTION GOING 45 MPH THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND WE NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT WHILE COASTING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AGAIN AND WE PUSHED THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOST SPACE. WHILE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO JUMP THE CAR THE VEHICLE START AGAIN. AGAIN ON 10/11/2014 WHILE TURNING INTO A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN. THIS AGAIN ALMOST RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. AT THIS TIME WE CONSIDER THIS VEHICLE NO SAFE TO OPERATE IF THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING. MY VAN HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT YET THE REAR ENGINE MOUNT COLLAPSED AND MADE MY ENGINE SHAKE BACK AND FORTH CAUSING A VIBRATION DURING DRIVING. THEY TELL ME THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE OF STOP AND GO DRIVING. I KNOW MANY PEOPLE WHO OWN THESE VANS AND ALL OF THEM HAVE HAD TO HAVE THIS FAULTY PART REPLACED. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE 4 MOTOR MOUNTS WITH THE MILEAGE OF 54,365 HAVE FAILED. THERE ARE COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS OF THIS SERIOUS DEFECT FROM HONDA AND IT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED. THE CAR WAS LEAKING A BROWNISH-ORANGE LIQUID FROM THE FRONT MIDDLE OF THE ENGINE AREA. THREE OF THE FIVE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE FOUND TO BE BROKEN AND ALL NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH HONDAS THAT HAVE A V6 ENGINE. IF THIS IS SUCH A WIDE-SPREAD PROBLEM, WHY IS IT NOT FIXED BY HONDA? ENGINE STARTED CHUGGING AND LOST POWER, SPUTTERING. THEN DIED AND COULDN'T RESTART. WAS TOWED TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT DIAGNOSIS. TOWED TO CLOSEST HONDA DEALER, 3 HOURS AWAY. #5 COIL DAMAGED DUE TO SPARK PLUG BLOWN OUT OF CYLINDER HEAD, THREADS DAMAGED IN CYLINDER HEAD. ALSO VSA WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND FAULTY VTEC CONTROL VALVE WAS DISCOVERED. VAN SAT AT DEALER FOR 4 WEEKS WHILE WAITING ON BACK ORDERED VTEC CONTROL VALVE PART. COST OF PARTS, MECHANIC, ETC. $1496.57 NOT TO MENTION THE TOWING. NOW.... VAN BEING DRIVEN LAST WEEK, VSA LIGHT CAME ON, STEERING WHEEL SEIZED UP AND A TERRIBLE NOISE OCCURRED IN ENGINE. WE PURCHASED HONDA ODYSSEY NEW IN 2006. I NOTICED STEERING ISSUES ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AND REPORTED IT DURING ROUTINE SERVICE. EVEN AFTER RECALL, ISSUE CONTINUES. NOTICED A FLUID LEAK & MENTIONED IT DURING SERVICE- WAS TOLD THERE WAS A BROKEN SEAL THAT WAS CAUSING VAN TO LEAK TRANSMISSION FLUID & "FIXED" FOR $1500. AFTER THIS FLUID CONTINUED TO LEAK, MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE VAN BACK. WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 2 DAYS BEFORE SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT, LIGHTS ON DASH CAME ON AND VAN LOST POWER STEERING WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 55 MPH. ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT POWER STEERING. TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALER AND TOLD THE BROKEN SEAL WAS ACTUALLY NOT THE PROBLEM FOR THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK - I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. LOST STEERING DUE TO A BELT THAT HAD BROKEN DUE TO CONSTANT LEAKING FLUID ON IT. SO DISAPPOINTED WITH HONDA. HUSBAND HAD MADE ME BRAND LOYAL NOW I'M ANTI-HONDA. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE VEHICLE WAS ALWAYS SERVICED BY HONDA DEALER EVERY FEW MONTHS FOR OIL CHANGE AND OTHER SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. RIGHT AFTER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED LAST AUGUST 2013, SANTAN HONDA IN CHANDLER HAD TOLD ME THAT I HAD TWO CRACKED ENGINE MOUNTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER RACED NOR TOWED ANYTHING. IT WAS PURELY USED BY WIFE TO HAUL MY DOGS TO THE PARK AND GROCERY THE COST WAS CLOSE TO $900 INCLUDING PART, LABOR AND TAX. I HAVE AFRAID THE OTHER ENGINE MOUNTS WILL FAIL ANYTIME SOON. IT IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR ENGINE MOUNTS TO FAIL IMMATURELY AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR 90K MILE MAINTENANCE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR ENGINE MOUNT WAS BROKEN, WHICH WAS THE REASON THE VEHICLE FELT UNSTABLE. THEY SAID ALL OTHER MOUNTS WERE WEARING SEVERELY AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED - REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. MY PROBLEM IS WITH MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE OIL PAN THREADS WERE STRIPED. WE WERE INFORMED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH HONDA AND ACURA. FROM MY RESEARCH THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE 1984. THE PROBLEM WITH HONDA'S STEEL OIL PANS IS THE DRAIN PLUG THREADS ARE FREQUENTLY DAMAGED AND THE DRAIN PLUG SEALING AREA TENDS TO DISTORT. HONDA USES AN ALUMINUM SEALING WASHER TO SEAL THE DRAIN PLUG AGAINST THE PAN. FROM MY RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM IS THE FLIMSY THREADS AND THIN SHEET METAL CAN NOT TAKE THIS AMOUNT OF TORQUE AND WILL FAIL AFTER REPEATED OIL CHANGES. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED A HELICOIL AS A POSSIBLE PERMANENT SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. IF THAT DOES NOT WORK THAN ULTIMATELY I HAVE TO CHANGE THE WHOLE OIL PAN WITH OE EQUIPMENT. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT IS HONDA HAS NOT CORRECTED THE FLAW, SO IN A FEW YEARS I WILL BE IN THE SAME POSITION OF HAVING STRIPPED OIL PAN THREADS. NO ONE WANTS TO DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD AND LOSE OIL PRESSURE BECAUSE THE TREADS OF THE OIL PAN HAS STRIPPED OVER TIME. AND CONSUMERS DO NOT WANT TO SPEND SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS EVERY FEW YEARS REPLACING AN OIL PAN BECAUSE OF HONDAS FLAWED DESIGN. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD TO ALLOW THE COMPUTER TO RESET INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONTACT LATER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE SPOOL VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE PART NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR WAS ON BACKORDER. THE FAILURE CONTINUOUSLY RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

I AM WRITING WITH REGARDS TO MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR A RECALL RELATED ISSUE WITH MY BRAKES AND WHILE FIXING IT, THEY NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD ISSUES WITH REAR ENGINE MOUNT. DEALER TOLD ME MY REAR ENGINE MOUNT IS BROKEN AND THAT'S WHY MY VEHICLE VIBRATES AND THAT WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO FAILURE WITH POWER STEERING, A/C, ENGINE, TRANSMISSION...ETC. SINCE THE VEHICLE CAN COME TO A HALT IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING IF LEFT UNATTENDED, I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN WITH ANY HONDA MINIVAN'S AND WANTED TO BRING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION. I STARTED READING ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET AND LOOKS LIKE LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR ENGINE MOUNTS (BOTH FRONT & REAR) WITH ODYSSEY'S ESPECIALLY FROM 2005 - 2009. I WOULD IMAGINE HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND THEY DID NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH HONDA AND IT WENT NOWHERE AND I WAS TOLD SINCE MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY (5 YEARS OR 60000 MILES WHICH EVER COMES FIRST) THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP ME WITH IT. I PAID 711$ TO FIX THE ISSUE, WHICH SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN THE CASE HAD HONDA TAKEN SOME RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. WHATS REALLY ANNOYING IS A BROKEN ENGINE PART WITH JUST 48000 MILES ON IT? I JUST HOPE THIS DOES NOT LEAD TO ANY LOSS OF LIFE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM WITH HONDA ODYSSEY, BUT AT THIS TIME HONDA CORPORATION HAS NOT ADDRESSED IT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE REAR AND SIDE ENGINE MOUNTS HAVE FAILED, AT 72,000 MILES. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. THE ENGINE MOUNTS SHOULD NOT FAIL AT THIS MILEAGE. I HAD NOTICED A RUMBLING NOISE AT LOWER SPEEDS WHEN THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING IN ECO MODE, AND IT APPEARS THAT THIS NOISE WAS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE OF THE ENGINE MOUNTS. IT IS A DEFECT THAT IF NOT REPAIRED WOULD RESULT IN THE ENGINE FALLING OUT OF THE VEHICLE, CLEARLY A DEFECT.
