MY BRAKE ACTUATOR HAS FAILED COSTING ME $3000 TO REPAIR. WHEN I WAS TURNING THE CORNER THE BRAKE FAILED ALMOST CAUSING A HUGE ACCIDENT. I CALLED TOYOTA FOR HELP. NO ONE IS HELPING ME. IM STUCK WITH TEH COST AND VERY SHOCKED WITH THE LIVES I PUT IN DANGER. TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AS THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY RESET. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR AN ADDITIONAL WEEK WITHOUT INCIDENT HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OF THE BRAKES WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS WORKING AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THERE WAS A KNOCKING SOUND WHILE BRAKING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000. *TR
A PULSATION WAS DETECTED IN THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IT APPEARED THAT THE VEHICLE'S ROTORS HAD WARPED. FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT OF THE ROTORS AND THE BRAKE PADS, THE SAME CONDITION WAS OBSERVED AT 45,737 MILES. THIS CONDITION LIKELY INCREASES THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THE CAR.
WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED (AT A STOP OR COMING TO A STOP) THERE IS A PULSATION THAT CAN BE FELT BY THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. SINCE THE FIRST OCCURRENCE THIS HAPPENS 100% OF THE TIME. WHILE THIS PULSATION OF THE BRAKES HAS CONTINUED TO OCCUR, STARTING IN JULY, 2013, OCCASIONALLY, WHEN STARTING THE CAR THE FOLLOWING OCCURS: 1. WITH THE BRAKE DEPRESSED TO START CAR, WHEN THE CAR IS PUT IN GEAR (WITH BRAKE STILL DEPRESSED) THE BRAKES DO NOT ENGAGE AND THE CAR SLOWLY ROLLS BACKWARDS (THIS HAPPENS WHETHER THE CAR IS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE). 2. AT THE SAME TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL FEELS "SOFT" AS IT IS NOT ENGAGING THE BRAKES. 3. AT THIS TIME THE FOLLOWING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD ARE LIGHTED: RED BRAKE LIGHT (AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS NOT ENGAGED), YELLOW (!) LIT, ABS LIT, READY LIGHT IS ALSO LIT. 4. ALL OF THIS WHILE THE BRAKES ARE "SOFT" AND NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. AFTER 5-8 SECONDS THE GAS ENGINE ENGAGES, THE LIGHTS GO OFF, AND THE BRAKE JERKS INTO ACTION. TO DATE, OUR DEALERSHIP HAS NO IDEA HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. CONSIDERING THE NUMBER OF INCIDENTS REPORTED ON SAFERCAR.GOV AND THE NUMBER OF INTERNET REPORTINGS OF THIS AND RELATED PROBLEMS, IT WOULD SEEM THAT A SERVICE BULLETIN OR A RECALL WOULD BE APPROPRIATE. NOT ALL DEALERSHIPS ARE FAMILIAR WITH OR KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS RIDING DOWN THE ROAD. AS I APPROACH THE LIGHT MY CAR WOULDN'T STOP MY BRAKE I BEGAN TO NOTICE BRAKE WERE BEING PUSHED TO THE FLOOR I BEGAN TO TRY TOPUMP BRAKES . AS I WAS TRYIN TO STOP CAR I HEARD THIS NOISE LIKE AIR WAS COMING OUT OF TIRES. THEN I REALIZED IT WAS MY BRAKES MAKING NOISE . I PULL UP EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP. MY 4 MTH OLD GRAND BABY WAS IN HIS CAR SEAT IN BACK, ALL I COULD DO WAS PRAY AND THANK GOD. I WASN'T FAR FROM MY HOME. I DROVE CAR HOME USING EMERGENCY BRAKES. NEXT DAY MY HUSBAND TOOK CAR TO SHOP. THEY ARE SAYING MY BRAKE BOOST HAS BROKEN AND WAS LEAKING AND THERE ADVICE WAS NOT TO DRIVE CAR. LEAVE IT WITH THEM .THIS HAPPEN ALL OF A CERTAIN, I HAD DROVE THAT CAR EVERY DAY THIS WK. TO FIX THIS CAR IT IS GOING TO COST 1300 DOLLARS. *TR
AT MULTIPLE REGULAR SERVICE APPOINTMENTS AT THE TOYOTA DEALER, I REPORTED UNUSUAL NOISES AND A PULSING SENSATION THAT APPEARED TO COME FROM THE BRAKES. THE SERVICE PEOPLE WERE NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY ANY ISSUES. AT 77000 MILES, THE DEALER CHARGED $400 FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. AFTER REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER, THEY DETERMINED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED -- AT APPROXIMATELY $2400. OF COURSE, THEY ALSO WANTED TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND WATER PUMP FOR ANOTHER $700. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT (NON-DEALER) MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THE NEED TO REPLACE THE ABS ACTUATOR. THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED THAT THE PART COSTS SO MUCH BECAUSE IT IS SPECIFIC TO THE HYBRID VEHICLES (AS OPPOSED TO NON-HYBRID CAMRYS) -- USED PARTS ARE NOT MUCH CHEAPER AS THEY ARE HARDER TO FIND. A MAJOR FAILURE IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS OF GREAT CONCERN. THE BRAKES FEEL LIKE THEY ARE BECOMING INCREASINGLY LESS RESPONSIVE. IT IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE SAME COMPONENT OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM FOR THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE, YET TOYOTA IS NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR CORRECTING THIS. TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, OR AT LEAST CONCEDE THAT IT IS AN ISSUE SPECIFIC TO HYBRIDS AND WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY PERIOD THAT COVERS THE HYBRID SYSTEM. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A LOUD THUMPING SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,952.
ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO I NOTICED A NOTICE WHEN I DEPRESSED MY BRAKES, EVEN WHAT THE CAR WAS STOPPED, THAT THERE WAS A SQUEAKING OR THUMPING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I TOOK TO THE TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER LAST MONTH FOR A 5000 MILE SERVICE AND THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO HAPPEN. IT BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND SO I TOOK IT IN LAST WEEK AND THEY WERE ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THEY BLED THE BRAKE LINES WHICH DID NOT FIX IT AND SO THEY TOLD ME THERE IS AN INTERNAL LEAK IN THE ABS ACTUATOR AND THE PART WAS $2700 AND TOTAL WITH LABOR WOULD BE $3100. I WAS LOOKING AT OTHER OPTIONS AND TODAY WHEN DRIVING THE CAR WOULD HESITATE WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AND THEN THE VSC SYSTEM CHECK AND HYBRID SYSTEM CHECK WARNINGS CAME ON AND I HEARD A LOUD HISSING/FAN-LIKE NOISE FROM BEHIND THE REAR SEAT WHERE THE HYBRID BATTERY IS LOCATED. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE I FOUND THAT THIS ISSUE IS VERY COMMON AND MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED BY OWNERS OF THE 2007 MODEL YEAR AND LATER CAMRY HYBRID WITH MILEAGE LEVELS IN THE 50K TO 80K RANGE. IN ADDITION, THERE IS A SQUISHINESS IN THE BRAKES AND AT ONE POINT WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD. I HAVE READ ONLINE ABOUT OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM WHERE THEIR BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING AND HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO PREVENT HAVING AN ACCIDENT. THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. *TR
BRAKING WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN IN PARK MODE A KNOCKING SOUND IS HEARD; BRAKING UNEVEN BUT (PULSATING) HOWEVER CURRENTLY THERE ARE NO ISSUES WITH COMING TO A STOP. NO WARNING LIGHTS ON; HAD IT SEEN BY TOYOTA DEALER - NO PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED WITH DIAGNOSTICS; RECOMMENDED CHANGING BRAKE PADS, WHICH DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, 2 ADDITIONAL VISITS TO DEALERSHIP - AND AFTER A COST OF OVER $500 TODAY THEY MENTIONED THAT IT WAS THE ACTUATOR AND WOULD TAKE AN ADDITIONAL $3244.50 TO REPLACE. SOONER OR LATER THE BRAKES WERE LIKELY TO FAIL MAKING IT UNSAFE, CALLED TOYOTA BUT WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL OR PROBLEMS WITH THE 2007 CAMRY HYBRID MODELS - BUT THE NHTSA WEBSITE HAS MULTIPLE SIMILAR POSTS. HOPE TO GET SOME MEANINGFUL RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA. WILL COME BACK AND UPDATE AS I HAVE SOME FEEDBACK FROM THE COMPANY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY WHEN ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIT UP ON MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID WITH 67K MILES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT STRANGE. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. RESTARTED IT, JUST TO FIND THE THAT THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE STILL ON, AND THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL STILL FELT STRANGE/DIFFERENT. I THEN DROVE HOME VERY SLOWLY AND CALLED THE DEALER. THIS IS THE SAME DEALER THAT HAS DONE ALL THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS AN ABS BRAKE ACCUMULATOR HYDRAULIC PART THAT COST OVER $2500. *TR
CHECK VSC SYSTEM ERROR MESSAGE CAUSED BY A BAD ABS ACTUATOR. NOW THE BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING. YOU PUSH ON THE BRAKES AND THE CAR WILL NOT STOP. YOU HAVE TO PUSH HARD ON THE BRAKES AND HOPE THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY STOP. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL AND PAY TO HAVE THIS FIXED. *JS
MY 6-CYLINDER CAMRY XLE WAS WRECKED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE BRAKES FAILED THE PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS. THE CAMRY WAS SERVICED REGULARLY AT A TOYOTA DEALER. IT HAD LESS THAN 49,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, THE ROAD, WEATHER, AND VISIBILITY WERE GOOD. I WASN'T SPEEDING, TEXTING, PHONING, EATING, DRINKING, OR BEING DISTRACTED FROM DRIVING IN ANY WAY. THERE WAS ONLY ONE CAUSE FOR THE ACCIDENT THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS. ONLY SECONDS BEFORE I USED THE BRAKE TWICE AT LOW SPEEDS. IT WAS NOT HUMAN ERROR. IT WAS MECHANICAL FAILURE. OTHER CASES INVOLVING THE CAMRY 2007 HAVE BEEN REPORTED ON THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S (NHTSA) COMPLAINT WEB PORTAL, EDMUNDS.COM AND CARCOMPLAINTS.COM. SIMILAR TO THE OTHER INCIDENTS, THERE WAS NO WARNING; I HAD APPLIED MY BRAKES AT STOPS ONLY SECONDS EARLIER. IT WAS A HARROWING EXPERIENCE. I COULDN'T STOP FOR A RED LIGHT AND CRASHED WITH ANOTHER CAR. I SAW THE RED LIGHT WITH PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP IF ONLY THE BRAKES HAD WORKED! I AND THE OTHER DRIVER WALKED AWAY, BUT MY CAR WAS TOTALED AND THE OTHER DRIVER'S CAR WAS DAMAGED. SIMILAR TO THE OTHER INCIDENTS, TOYOTA COULD NOT DETECT OR REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN IT DIDN'T EXIST. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED. IT IS MY OPINION THAT TOYOTA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO THE PUBLIC. I'VE TALKED TO A COUPLE OF MASTER MECHANICS AND THEY QUICKLY REPLIED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A POWER BRAKE ASSIST FAILURE. DESPITE MY PHONE CALLS TO TOYOTA'S NORTH AMERICAN HEADQUARTERS AND ULTIMATELY A LETTER TO THE CEO, TOYOTA DENIED RESPONSIBILITY AND MY CLAIM. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, SHE ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE AND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A THUMPING AND SQUEAKING SOUND EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE ABS LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENTIRE ABS SYSTEM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
THIS IS IN FOLLOW UP TO INCIDENT ODI ID 10453342. AFTER FOUR SEPARATE BRAKE FAILURES AND SUBSEQUENT DELIVERIES OF THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY VALVE IN THE BRAKE ACTUATOR. SYMPTOMS: ACCUMULATOR PUMP RUNNING EVERY 10 TO 15 SECONDS WHEN IT SHOULD RUN ONLY OCCASIONALLY. DEALERSHIP STATES THAT DIAGNOSTICS REVEALED THAT NO BRAKING WAS AVAILABLE TO THE REAR WHEELS AT POINT OF FAILURE. THE ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT 55,218 MILES. TWO WEEKS SUBSEQUENT TO THE WARRANTY REPAIR, A FIFTH BRAKING FAILURE OCCURRED (OCTOBER 30, 2012). THIS TIME WITH A WARNING TONE (NOT HEARD ON PREVIOUS FAILURES). THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. DEALERSHIP STATES THE NEW ACTUATOR HAD FAILED DUE TO A FAULTY VOLTAGE REGULATOR. THE ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED AGAIN UNDER WARRANTY. 23 DAYS HAVE PASSED SINCE THE LAST FAILURE AND THE BRAKES ARE WORKING NORMALLY. IT SEEMS THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR (THE SQUARE ALUMINUM MODULE UNDER THE HOOD ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE WITH MANY HYDRAULIC LINES COMING OUT OF IT) IS A WEAK COMPONENT IN THE TOYOTA 2007 CAMRY HV. *TR
THE FIRST INDICATION WAS THE CRL CAME ON WITH CODES P0171 AND THEN P0174. WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN, THERE IS A HISSING NOISE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD BASICALLY GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IT SOUNDS AS IF THIS HAS HAPPENED QUITE A BIT WITH THIS MODEL AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER MUST BE REPLACED AND THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT. *TR
I HAVE HAD MY FRONT ROTORS RESURFACED DUE WARPAGE ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS (9/2010 & 9/2012-80K). THE ISSUE CAN BE SEEN PRIMARILY WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THEN SLOWING DOWN TO GET ON OFF RAMP, WHERE CAR WOULD SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY TO THE POINT OF STEERING WHEEL SHAKING OUT OF YOUR HAND WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. OTHER TIMES STEERING WOULD VISIBLY SHAKE, BUT NOT TO THE POINT OF SHAKING OUT OF YOUR HAND, WHEN TRAVELING IN TOWN AT LOWER SPEEDS WHEN STOPPING AT STOP LIGHTS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
UNDER LIGHT BRAKING, MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID BRAKES WILL SUDDENLY "LET GO". AT THAT POINT, ADDITIONAL BRAKE PRESSURE IS REQUIRED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THIS IS DANGEROUS. MY LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT ADVISED ME TO INCREASE MY STOPPING DISTANCE TO ALLOW ENOUGH TIME TO OVERCOME THE FAILURE. THEY FURTHER SUGGESTED THAT A REPAIR MY BE DIFFICULT AS THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. AN INTERNET SEARCH SUGGESTS THIS IS NOT UNIQUE TO MY VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND EXITED THE ROAD TO A SAFE AREA. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS THE BRAKE BOOSTER BEING DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,400. AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,800.
JUST OVER A YEAR AGO, THE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" WARNING STARTED COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY IN MY VEHICLE. IT WOULD GO OFF AGAIN AFTER A COUPLE OF VEHICLE STARTS AND STOPS OVER TIME. THE DEALERSHIP RAN A DIAGNOSTIC, SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE, AND SENT ME ALONG MY WAY. AFTER A FEW MONTHS IT PROGRESSED TO THE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM", THE RED "BRAKE" LIGHT, THE LITTLE YELLOW TRIANGLE WITH THE "!" AND THE STABILITY CONTROL ICON ON STAYING ON ALL THE TIME. AFTER A FEW MORE MONTHS THE HYDRAULIC BRAKES WOULD LOSE POWER WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD START AND THIS WOULD BE ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD, CONSTANT "BEEP." IT WOULD LAST ABOUT A MINUTE, POWER WOULD RETURN TO THE BRAKES. AFTER A FEW MORE MONTHS THE HYDRAULIC BRAKES STARTED LOSING POWER SEEMINGLY AT RANDOM WHILE I WOULD BE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I CAN STOP OR DECELERATE, BUT I HAVE TO APPLY FAR MORE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND MY BRAKING DISTANCE IS GREATLY INCREASED. IT'S A THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN NOW, AND THEY ARE CLAIMING THAT THEY HAVE "NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE" AND HAVE "NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT." *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE ACTUATOR IN THE ABS SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE COST OF THE PART IS OVER $2,200.00 AND THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE LABOR TO INSTALL IT. AFTER CHECKING ONLINE, I AM SEEING WHERE THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH TOYOTA HYBRID VEHICLES. MY VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 85,000 MILES ON IT AND THIS SEEMS LIKE AN EXTREME COST FOR ANYONE, INCLUDING ME, TO HAVE TO REPLACE ON A VEHICLE AS NEW AS THIS. CAR PURCHASED NEW ON 5/9/2007. ONLY 30,800 MILES & HAD THE OIL CHANGED. THE CAR WAS SQUEALING. MECH. DETERMINED THE LEFT REAR INSIDE BRAKE PAD WAS ALMOST GONE!! FRONT PADS/ROTORS FINE. THIS IS A CASE OF PREMATURE REAR BRAKE PAD WEAR THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF. THEY ISSUED A TSB. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL & ALL WORK DONE SHOULD BE COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE!! NOW I HAVE TO PAY $250.00 TO HAVE THE ENTIRE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM FIXED=2 ROTORS TURNED, 4 DISC BRAKE PADS, & LABOR. TOYOTA IS COMPLETELY AT FAULT. *JS
