NHTSA RECALL: 14V-604- RECEIVED NOTICE STATING "THE REMEDY WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS." I CALLED RICK HENDRICK TOYOTA SCION SANDY SPRINGS AND I WAS INFORMED THAT IT IS A TWO STEP PROCESS THE FIRST STEP LASTING 2 HOURS. THEN IF NEEDED THEY WILL ORDER THE PARTS ("WE DON'T KEEP THEM ON HAND AS THE BOXES ARE TOO BIG") TAKING 2 WEEKS THEN ANOTHER 2 PLUS HOURS TO INSTALL. NOW THAT IS NOT WHAT THE NOTICE STATES, IT STATES TWO HOURS ( I KNOW I SEE THE RESTOF THE PARAGRAPH) BUT REALLY DOUBLE IF NOT TRIPLE THE STATED TIME AND 2 WEEKS TO WAIT JUST DOES SEEM TO BE IN THE KEEPING OF THE SPIRIT OF THE CONTRACT. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER IN APRIL OF 2016 WHO DETERMINED THAT THE LEAF SPRINGS WERE RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE GIVEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
BOTH REAR LEAF SPRINGS FAILED IN NOVEMBER 2014. THE OUTER LEAF OF BOTH REAR SPRINGS FRACTURED. I REPLACED THE LEAF SPRINGS WITH AN AFTER MARKET SUSPENSION SYSTEM WHICH INCLUDED REAR LEAF SPRINGS. THIS WAS BEFORE THE TOYOTA LEAF SPRING RECALL. TOYOTA JUST DENIED MY CLAIM FOR REIMBURSEMENT STATING THAT THE AFTER MARKET LEAF SPRINGS ARE NOT THE PART THAT WAS COVERED BY THE RECALL. THEY STATED THAT AFTER MARKET PARTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT. BASED ON WHAT I HAVE READ OF THE LAW, I DON'T BELIEVE THIS TO BE A VALID REASON FOR DENIAL OF REIMBURSEMENT.
RECEIVED THE NOTICE IN APRIL 2016. WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE NOT IN STOCK. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ON 7-29-2016 AND TOLD THAT THE PARTS ARE ON ORDER. ITS BEEN MORE THAN A COUPLE OF MONTHS ON A SAFETY RECALL THAT SEEMS SERIOUS.
