The brake booster went out first, replaced the brake booster and master cylinder, 2 calipers, brake pads, and rotors. The next option was to replace the brake lines. The problem was not solved; the calipers still locked up.

Soft brake pedal that goes to floor

Type: Vehicle, Vehicle: 2013 FORD EDGE, Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
Incident: Dec 2025
Jan 2026

I have a 2013 FORD Edge that the ABS module has gone out deeming the vehicle unsafe to drive. We have spoken to several FORD dealership team members and have all stated that the part should be recalled and the part is unavailable until sometime next year or later. We were told by FORD customer service, that in order to escalate the issue, then we needed to take to a dealership. We dropped the car off and never heard back from anyone and finally after many attempts to contact the dealership, I was finally able to get a team member on the line. They then tell us until we pay the diagnostic fees, they can't do anything. We were never told that from the start of the initial call and are back to square one. The car has no anti-lock brakes and is deemed unsafe to drive, please assist in anyway possible.

The ABS Control Module failed in my 2013 Ford Edge. I no longer have anti-lock brakes and my wife does not feel safe driving the car. I talked to a number of different Ford Dealerships and every service technician I talked to told me they don't know how this issue is not a recall as it is happening so often that the part is back ordered by a year. I had the problem confirmed by in independent service center and was informed to bring to a Ford Dealership. The vehicle is now at a Ford Dealership awaiting diagnosis but they all said they know what the problem is and they can't get the part. There are multiple warning lamps going off when you start the vehicle. ABS warning lamp, service advancetrac lights and brake warning lamps. This issue just popped up and we brought to an independent service center to get fixed and they were aware of this issue and told me that you can't get the part and to contact Ford. They also told us that if you push the brakes too hard it could cause them to lock up which is a huge safety concern and now my wife will not drive the vehicle and I can not sell it to anyone like that so we are stuck. Please help.

Stiff brake and hard shift

Nov 2025

1 month after replacing the break booster, the modules that control the ABS system went out. I have taken the vehicle to multiple mechanics and no one is able to get the part. They said Ford is no longer manufacturing the replacement. When I called the Ford dealership and tried to get it repaired, they said the part is on back order with no date for when it will be available. I am now forced to drive without ABS breaks and I worry about having to slam on my brakes and my car sliding out of control. I live in a very high traffic area and have to commute a lot on the interstates due to work.

The brake pedal became stiff. The pedal would depress and eventually stop the car but then occasionally more play would be in the pedal. When the vehicle stopped the pedal would depress further and additional pressure would have to be applied to get the vehicle to stop completely. A service campaign bulletin was issued for my other vehicle ( Feb 20, 2024- Reference Number 13N02), same model, same year for a brake booster replacement, yet no service campaign was issued for this vehicle. My vehicle would not stop completely consistently without stomping on the pedal. My garage informed me to return it to Ford for warranty replacement of the brake booster, just like my other Ford Edge ( same year, same model). Brake fade was noticed in Fall of 2024 and confirmed by my garage in Feb 2025.

The 2013 Ford Edge began giving trouble after sitting at an intersection or pulling out of the driveway to enter major traffic. The vehicle would hesitate to accelerate as though it is running out of gas but it isn't out of gas. When you continue pressing on the accelerator it would jerk then accelerate. We barely escaped being hit from the rear because the vehicle died while pulling out onto the feeder, whereupon I struggled to pull into a nearby gas station. The brake pedal is generally stiff but can be depressed, however, in other instances, when braking the brake pedal sometimes becomes hard to depress but becomes easier after the car is driving for a long stretch, such as the freeway. When you start the car the panel is normal but as you begin driving the Check Brake System failure light begins to appear in Red and the ABS light and the oil light. Similar incidents as the previously mentioned situations have happened on numerous occasions.

While driving the car approaching a stop the brake pedal suddenly went almost all the way to the floor. It stayed that way for the next couple of days before going back to a fully functioning brake pedal. Months later it happened again this time without repairing itself. We took it to a local mechanic as well as the local Ford dealership twice. Their computer did not detect anything wrong and yet when the service rep tried the brakes they went clear to the floor! So we had them update the computer software in the car since we never had any warning lights about this issue. The local mechanic as well as the Ford dealership suspect it is the HCU unit within the ABS system. The problem is there are no replacement parts available to remedy the problem. We have read many similar complaints online. We believe Ford should fix this issue.

Replaced Master Brake Cylinder and Brake Booster due to hard Braking. Also, ABS Control lights are illuminated. Codes show failed ABS module creating safety issue when fast breaking. Brake pushes down to the floor periodically Repair is very costly to fix.

My brake pedal was not functioning correct. It was at times very soft, hitting the floor, and at other times difficult to push. A local shop replaced booster and master cylinder in an attempt to fix. Now brakes are locking up at random. Happened while going 70 mph with family in car and wheel was shaking and very unsafe. My year model (2013) is not included in the extended warranty for the brake booster (13N02) anymore since it was made in March of 2013. Any edges made in April of 2013, just one month later, are covered until 2025 by the customer satisfaction program extended warranty.

Spongy brake pedal while driving. Brake pedal travel almost to the ground when applying the brakes. Issue is cause by faulty hydraulic control unit. This problem occured while on a family trip on interstate US 95 while traveling at 70 miles per hour with my wife and children on board. The malfunction caused me to have difficulty braking and almost caused a major accident when a vehicle suddenly stopped in front of me. I was 10 hrs from home and was forced to travel back with the faulty, risky and extremely dangerous faulty brake system. The problem persists and I will be calling the Ford dealer on 7/7/2025 to have the problem fixed. There were also no warning lights to indicate a faulty hydraulic control unit that could had proven me from driving the vehicle on a 10 hr trip with my family in tow.

Brakes became spongy and went to the floor. Vehicle could not stop short and was extremely dangerous to drive. Was at a high risk of slamming into the car in front of me and also could not stop before the line of a red light. Braking was delayed by more than 60%. The dealer confirmed the failure was the HCU of the ABS module. This is extremely similar to a recall on other Fords. 19S54 and 20S13

Brakes were not functioning properly. Nearly got into an accident because of the increased stopping distance. I was driving on the highway pressed the brakes when a car cut in front of me. Brakes were hard to depress then pedal would go to the floor. Dealer service department indicated that there is a faulty brake booster. Found out that there was a recall / "Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02" on other 2013 Ford Edge vehicles. Called Ford Corporate and they indicated that my vehicle was not covered under this customer service program, even though it was built at the same facility during the same time that this customer service program was supposed to cover. I find it very concerning that Ford has not addressed this issue in a more widespread proactive manner. Clearly my vehicle has the same issue as others that were covered. Getting reimbursed for the cost of this would be nice, but my main concern is that this is a major safety issue that has not been addressed properly and people could get seriously hurt.

My brakes are failing intermittently. I have been driving and pressed the brake pedal and it goes all the way to the floor but the car only gradually stops. Thankfully it has not caused an accident, yet. Once I am able to stop I pump the pedal to get things back to somewhat normal. But the pedal still feels spongy. I looked up a customer service program ford has (13N02) but my VIN isn’t under it. But my car does fit the assembly plant and dates of this known issue. I’m afraid I’m going to get in an accident over a known issue.

Brakes have to be pressed almost to the floor to engage. There is a warranty extension for many 2013 Ford Edges with production dates at the same plant for brake replacement and this VIN is not included. It is a significant safety concern.

I reported this issue with my breaks the other day, however I noticed today 5/15 that my breaks would not engage after going down my hill in my neighborhood, my husband was driving and said he had to push the brakes to the floor to engage and get the car to stop, he almost didn’t get the vehicle to stop. This would have caused him to roll into oncoming traffic, with 2 kids in the car this is not acceptable. I have did research and noticed recalls but my car is not included on that however, my vehicle is having the same issues. I do plan on taking it to the repair shop and having someone look at it. This vehicle is not safe to drive

2013 ford edge, breaks locked up as I was approaching a downward hill. I felt the breaks tighten up and wouldn’t stop. This could have caused a significant accident if I needed to stop suddenly. There where no warning lights that came on.

Hi my name is [XXX] and we own a 2013 Ford Edge. VIN # [XXX]. We loved driving it until it broke down on a trip to New Mexico. We were driving along and all the brakes locked up leaving us stranded on the side of the road for 5 hours. We eventually had it towed to our destination, Gallup New Mexico and had it examined by a local mechanic. He thought it was hydraulics and replaced the master cylinder and all the brakes and rotors along with the ABS hydraulic unit. It appeared to take care of the problem but while test driving it was still happening, it wasn’t the brakes it was the anti-lock braking system module (ABS). He tried to order the ABS module but was told that Ford does not make that part anymore and had to try an aftermarket one. Those did not work. I eventually had it transported to my local mechanic in Southern California for $675.00 where he has the same problem, can’t get the part from Ford and aftermarket won’t work and is currently looking for a used module that will work on my car. Why would you stop making this part knowing there is a problem with it and not have an adequate replacement for it? We have been without this car for over 6 months and are very frustrated with Ford. I am at a loss for words and at a loss on our next steps as we have a vehicle we love which we cannot get fixed. I am asking for any advice, relief or how we can get our car fixed before it becomes worthless and we cannot recoup any of the money we have had to put out for this fiasco! We have put out over $4,000 including rental car costs! Update: I send ford a letter they responded but their stores did not work to get the parts. It has been almost 1 year now and the car is still not running. My next step is to drop it off at the Ford Dealer but I'm afraid they will charge me more than it is worth just to look at it. Brake booster needs to be replaced because it has failed, making the car unable to stop. This has caused the car to shut off if the brake pedal is pressed to long, like stopping at a stop light. The vehicle is in a Ford authorized service shop and has been confirmed as brake booster failure. The issue started with stalling, car throwing codes such as no oil, hissing in the brake lines, spongy brake pedal, leading to zero ability to stop. Issues started slowly around October and by January, the car is completely unable to stop.

Brake Boost issue with my 2013 Ford Edge Sport. When attempting to brake, there is very little stopping resistance. Even at slow speeds, it takes a dangerous amount of time and distance to bring the vehicle to a stop. While braking, a hissing noise can be heard from the brake pedal area, and the brake pedal presses easily to the floor with minimal resistance. Upon researching the issue, I discovered that this is a very common problem with this vehicle. A certified mechanic diagnosed the issue and stated that this is a known problem and may be covered under Ford's Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02. While this is a known and common issue that is covered under warranty when the vehicle is under 10 years from warranty purchase date or under 150,000 miles, the Ford Dealership is fighting me on this and is refusing to assist in correcting this safety issue. If a vehicle has already exceeded the time or mileage limit and is part of the incremental launch population, this coverage will last through November 30, 2025. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners. Brakes began failing around July/August of 2024. Due to financial hardship, I cannot afford this repair on my own. Driving this vehicle in this condition is extremely dangerous for myself and other drivers on the road. I've had to veer off of the road or into other lanes in order to avoid a collision with vehicles in front of me because it takes an extremely unreasonable distance to stop the vehicle with a bad brake booster many times already; It's only a matter of time before I encounter an unavoidable collision due to bad brakes. Please advise on who I can talk to about getting this issue fixed under warranty, or at no/reduced cost.

2013 Ford Edge Limited Mileage approximately 69,000 Have had issues for several months (2024-2025) with an intermittent soft brake. As soon as I feel the soft or spongy brake I release & pump the brake pedal again & that seems to fix it. April 30, 2025 I stepped on the brake & did not get a good pedal. Pumped the brake again & did not get a good pedal (did this 3 times) then noticed it went real low & it felt like a sensation of maybe pedal feeling disengages or collapsing during failure. The soft brake pedal lasted for the approximately next 5 times I pumped the brake. I have found the 2013 Ford Edge has 465 NHTSA complaints for service brakes, averaging 56,907 miles, with many describing intermittent pedal issue similar to mine. No ABS or any warning lights are on. Checked for recall & don’t see one for this year even tho there have been 465 existing complaints. Have had the rear brake pads replaced. Master cylinder Front brake pads & rotors. Been bled numerous times Brake fluid level is good After researching this issue I have found that HCU/ABS Module issues are most frequently cited as the cause for these symptoms. This is a pricey repair (HCU) & I think that with all the complaints & the dangerous aspect to this it should be a recall that Ford should be responsible for.
