Coolant intrusion to engine, causing thick white smoke from exhaust . Engine light on . Causing spark plugs to be replaced . Having to replace coolant weekly in vehicle

Type: Vehicle, Vehicle: 2018 FORD EDGE, Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
Incident: May 2023
Oct 2023

Engine light came on and took 2018 Edge to mechanic. Diagnostic indicated misfiring of piston 2 and 3. Started by changing the spark plugs. Light came back on within a few days. Took car to Ford dealer and they indicated that coolant was leaking into cylinder 2 and 3 and that it could result in engine failure if not repaired including risk of a firer. Engine failure on the wrong roadway (i.e. busy urban interstate highway) could result in catastrophic engine failure and risk injury and loss of life. Given the volume of similar complaints for coolant leakage into cylinders, the probability of engine failure and its consequences should be enough to require a mandatory recall.

We bought a new 2018 Ford edge with eco boost paid for the extra extended warranty …this pass Oct coolant is now leaking into the number 2 cylinder now the fix is a new engine which is 9000 and Ford only covering 3000 of it. Luckily husband is a me and knew to park the car until we got it into Ford for diagnosis. The engine can lock up at any time who’s to know when Would not be a good outcome on the highway Much less the shady deals of Ford not covering engines and selling them knowing this design flaw is their doing Who sticks up for the little people buying their 40000 cars and have no recourse

engine malfunction, loose engine power. It will fail to accelerate some times. It has been ispected by the ford dealership and the problem has been confirmed by them. Check engine on. Ford Motor company has a recall on the ford edge 2015-2018. Attached you will find the TSB # 19-2208 from ford in which describe the issues for the recall. Even though my car is showing the exact same malfunction, ford is telling me that my specific vin # is not on the recall and that I need to replace the engine for $ 6,000.00. What I do not understand is how if the vehicle has the same malfunction as the recall and it has been confirmed by Ford that its the same safety issue my vehicle will not be included in the recall. I'm writing NHTS as recomended by ford to see if someone can help me with this issue.

Eco boost engine is less than four years old and coolant leaked into engine. This should never happen on a four year old vehicle. Ford put out a “bulletin” on this, not a recall, but never informed me of it directly. When we contacted Ford told us we were out of luck. Cost me 7k to fix. Internet says this is happening way more often than it should be. My mechanic told me this should only happen to vehicles with hundreds of thousands of miles. He was as stunned as we were. This could have killed me. I’m fortunate that I decided to have it looked at. The cost was significant, but my life is worth more. A recall should be triggered. Ford knows it, lawyers know it, the Feds should know it too.

I have a 2018 Ford Edge SEL with a 2.0 L engine and 63,550 miles. The EcoBoost engine has coolant intrusion into the cylinders due to a design flaw in the engine where the head gasket fails. Ford has a TSB bulletin (TSB 19-2346) they sent out that requires a new engine replacement for this issue. This issue has been present in 2015-2018 Ford edge and occurs usually when the warranty expires. This relates to safety in that the engine can fail or catch fire. I took it in to a Ford dealer and they said I would need an engine replacement costing $8,100. My car has not been inspected by the manufacturer but I called them and was told that they had no program available to help me. I did contact the dealer I purchased the use car from and they said they couldn't do anything to help me. The MIL (check engine light) came on 2 weeks after I purchased the car from the dealer and when I checked under the hood I found the coolant reservoir empty. I now have payments on a car that needs an engine replacement for $8,100.

The check engine light came on. The warning was a cylinder 2 misfire. The fix is an engine replacement. I called Ford. They acknowledged a coolant leakage problem. They said there was no recall but would offer "assistance". I was told to limit driving until repair as the engine will stall at any time. This problem happened shy of 68,000 miles (shortly after warranty expiration).

Month of August had my grandkids in the vehicle and my vehicle stalled out in the middle of traffic because it has a coolant leak. I only have a little over 70,000 miles on my 2018 Ford Edge. It is an internal coolant leak. Because it's not leaking on the ground. My understanding you are having a lot of this problem. I also understand that this could catch the vehicle on fire. My son is an auto mechanic and he said y'all are having a lot of problems with this with these vehicles I have to use an old truck for transportation now I am having back problems and hip problems. Please help because I don't have this kind of money to put in a vehicle that has this problem this early in with this low mileage.

My vehicle, along with many other Ford Edge owners, has coolant intruding into the #2 engine cylinder, which causes engine misfires, and has caused others engines to crack and have a engine fire. Ford is aware that the head was ground incorrectly during manufacturing, which allows the head gasket to fail. Ford has issued tech service bulletin 19-2346 There is a recall in Canada, we need one in the US. This issue typically takes time and mileage, and in my case and others the manufacturers engine warranty has expired. The fix for my 2.0L engine is a total replacement. Thanks for your time.

The motor is shot. A known problem from Ford is not being addressed. Coolant leaking into the cylinder which can cause car to catch on fire. I bought a platinum extended warranty from where I bought the car but they will not fix because of a TSB and Ford won't fix because problem is not recalled. I lost over $18,000 on this vehicle and had to buy another car.
